I think Fredrick is gonna be there. I think the McGovern pick is them prepping for when they do not resign La'el next year. They will probably slide Williams to RT and have McGovern play LG. They learned from Conner last year they cant expect everyone to slide in and play well immediately. This gives McGovern a year to develop. I wouldnt be surprised if they moved Conner Williams to Tackle now and let La'el play at guard through this year before he leaves. I would have liked to take Chauncey Gardener-Johnson but the word i heard from insiders was that the staff viewed him as "a better player than person" and that his interviews went really poorly. I dont mind the Hill pick. We need push in the middle after losing Irving and Malik often being injured. Would still like to add a Safety
I like the Michael Jackson pick. Hes got the size Richard likes and with a 40 inch vert and 4.4 speed theres a lot to like as far as raw material to work with. In 2017 he had 4 picks. For a 5th round guy, not bad at all.
lol we drafted a Michael Jackson and a Joe Jackson. Both from the U. Odd names but Joe looks like he was productive. 6'5" and had 22.5 sacks and 35.5 TFL in 3 seasons plus a pick 6 last year. Not too shabby
I like Michael Jackson a lot as a pro prospect (and as a Cane). Good size, good wing span, nice speed and he had times where he got beat but I thought he was pretty reliable last year. I personally think he's gonna be a better pro than Joe Jackson.
Nice, was hoping to get some insight from the Miami fans who watched them play. From what I am seeing Joe has great size and strength but kinda lacks first step and technique. That jive with what you saw in games?
Yeah. Joe was a nice player for the Canes for sure, but he doesn't seem to have the pass rush talent to ever really be a true impact rushing the passer. His burst is ok but it seems like he doesn't really know how to beat the OT if his bull rush gets stopped. He'll get effort sacks and should be a decent rotational guy though. Honestly I'm shocked he went before Willis III. Can't believe he's still available.
UDFAs. Not sure if they’re done. Daniel Wise DT Kansas Chris Westry DB Kentucky Jalen Guyton WR North Texas Jon’vea Johnson WR Toledo Brandon Knight OL Indiana Luke Gifford OLB Nebraska Ricky Walker DT Virginia Tech
my last post i talked highly of the cowboys drafting in previous years but tbh im pretty fucking disappointed with this draff
Read the athletic article about how Marinelli won out over Richard when they were deciding Hill or Thornhill Frustrating. The safety position is so key to takeaways the reason we are ranked 26th in that category over the last decade. Refusing to still address it with a strong talent just doesn’t make sense. That’s the only thing holding back the defense from being elite.
Bingo. And if you wanted to take DT round 2 fucking sign Earl Thomas instead of these 5 scrub ass players that add up to his salary. This isn’t rocket science.
I’m over not signing Earl but this was a pretty good safety crop and it could not have played out more nicely. Just didn’t execute. I like Hill a lot, think he becomes a player. Marinelli is perfect for developing him but I just think the safety spot is a bigger need. They took BPA to them but that was Thornhill IMO
With the money we're pouring into our top tier players, signing Earl Thomas for what he wound up going for would have been stupid. Our secondary was reasonably solid last year. We made it to the playoffs only to get knocked out being abused by CJ Anderson running up the middle. I don't think the DT pick was bad at all. Besides, Dallas deserves the benefit of the doubt with how they've been drafting for a few years now. Plus, I'm not sure what article you're talking about, but they said on 105.3 The Fan that Richard told Jerry he was good to go at safety and to go get Hill.
We were down by less than a score and had the Rams on 3rd and 7. Do you remember what happened on that play? Don't talk to me about secondary. Jeff Heath looked like the blind kid in the football video.
Guyton went to my high school. Was a Notre Dame signee out of HS before getting suspended from the team for breaking a rule. Interesting signing
I am stoked for camp this year. My buddy (who I do a mediocre Cowboys podcast with) and I are going to camp since we got Media Passes this year. Gonna be fun to see how some position battles shake out and what the offense looks like with Kellen at the helm.
But would we have even been in that position if we weren't getting torn up the rest of the game by Anderson gashing us?
Doesn't quite sound reasonable, but ok. I guess I'm just far more willing to base the loss on what happened the entire game than on a single play.
Cowboys signing Larry Allen Jr. No idea if hes any good but pretty cool for the son of a legend to join the same team his dad played for.
We all disliked the LVE pick last year and here we are. Give it time to see what we get. We havent done a whole lot of bad top draft picks lately. Gregory is still who we thought he was, so I hold that chance there too
If Hill turns out to be what Marinelli thinks he can be, then getting him plus the Amari trade makes for a lot of value out of those 2 picks. An interested tidbit I heard yesterday: the Tony Pollard pick was all Kellen Moore. Moore wants to use Pollard in a Kamara-type role and lobbied hard for the team to give him his guy. While I don't know enough about Pollard to say if he can do all of that, I will say that I like that Moore is actually being given too latitude to make some changes on offense. I was pretty worried that Kellen was just going to maintain our exact same system and effectively be a mouthpiece for Garrett. If he is really being given the freedom to make alterations and has the juice to get draft picks, we could potentially see some creativity this season (which I think we can all agree we need). As with anything, that could all be bullshit the team is putting out there but like I said, ill look at the glass as half full for now
Stephen Jones learned from his 30 touches a game to tavon quote. This year, it’s just 30 plays for Tony pollard
I thought so too but apparently he was pretty solid in the second half when he actually got on the field a little
I am as big a zeke fan/defender as you will find. I was the lunatic homer relentlessly defending him in 2017 with the tin foil hat conspiracy theories. That said, he makes it so fucking hard. Just when he has people starting to come around on him (covering the funeral costs for that kid who got shot in STL) and now he does this shit. WHY is this dude at EDC. NOTHING good happens at EDC in Vegas. NOTHING. We need to put this guy on the Dez rules. Curfew, etc.
Guy looks like he gets physical with his gf, imho. Just the way he stepped to her. Also, put some pants on young lady.
https://www.bloggingtheboys.com/201...xtended-by-the-cowboys-this-or-next-offseason Idk how much I trust a source that nebulous but this wouldn't shock me. They don't really need to give zeke a deal until 2021 and by that time he could be run into the ground
There's a lot of talk about this but does Zeke actually go for that? I could see him pulling a Bell and not signing his franchise tag. I don't blame the Cowboys, the strategy makes 100% sense from a front office stand point but Zeke being probably the best offensive player on the team not getting a deal done is fucked especially when he'll see Dak and Amari get theirs.
Totally agree with your assessment. I guess itll come down to Zeke. On one hand, the organization has stood by him and fought hard for him through all his bullshit in 2017 but on the other he (maybe more than anyone on offense) has earned his check. I could certainly see him not wanting to take another 300 carries while playing on the tag and while I agree with people that say running backs are replaceable, there arent THAT many Zeke Elliotts. Hes the model of consistency. Tough call. I am sure if Zeke holds out Jerry will have flashes of Emmitt's holdout back in the day also
Seen that around a bunch recently. I hope it’s the route they go. I could see him holding out though if the cowboys did
