Is there are chance that the DOJ will attempt to leverage this case for information about the 2016 election? Is that something that would require Barr’s pre-authorization to even approach Assange/legal team? If Assange offers info about the 2016 election attack, can the prosecutors in charge pursue that avenue? Can Barr prevent any cooperation from occurring? If information is shared w/ prosecutors by Assange, can Barr shut it down quietly? I know that Barr believes it is his job to protect from/cover up Trump’s criminality & corruption. My only problem with this stance is that it galvanizes their base. There are countless examples of the GOP either committing or excusing crimes, reprehensible behavior, etc and their voters just band together tighter. Maybe I'm jaded but until this voters that disapprove of him actually vote against him I feel like they are still gonna push that Trump button. Depressing their turnout and keeping them home is the best chance to get him out and him being acquited by the Senate won't help that. Maybe it's my lack of faith that these farmers and shit that "will never vote for trump again" will actually turn on him. I wish NY or some state could ring up some stone cold lock criminal charges against him and his shitbag family.

His base isn't worth considering in any way, shape or form. They're going to stick with him throughout. Galvinizing the rest is much more important. But even more important than that is not playing politics and doing their duty as a check and balance to the executive branch and enforcing the laws that are on the book. Impeachment shouldn't be taken or not taken for political considerations -- it should be taken because laws and rules have been broken. If Republicans are breaking laws and Democrats won't do anything about it because they are afraid of the reaction, then what's the point?

I’m conflicted. On one hand I agree with you guys the sanctity of the checks and balance process demands action against a rogue POTUS like Trump. Polls reflect what the media approach and Pelosi have been doing - talking about the polling impact of impeachment rather than the independent merit of re action. Pelosi needs to reframe the discussion and she media needs to stop playing the horse race game with important issues. “Trump just literally wipes his ass with the original copy of the constitution - how will this play with his base?” is the most useless type of reporting.

It is different, because if she is using the strategy I have suggested then I think it has a higher probability of success with less downside than the alternative of just impeaching now. She even reiterated today that she believes he has impeachable offenses but she is waiting to see what happens with the evidence (Subpoena witness results and taxes) that comes forward. The other difference is you can hear what she is saying whereas with Mueller he never said anything. Don’t listen to the media trying to pontificate about why. They are creating a lot of noise that doesn’t make sense. She is literally telling us why she is waiting without being super specific about what evidence in case there is a need to adjust if something unaccounted for should happen. I think we will get impeachment.
How dare they investigate an attack by Russia on our elections. How dare Peter Strok, the FBI’s top Russia counterintelligence agent, have personal opinions after witnessing Trump lie about all things Russia.
Can't be scared. Gotta be aggressive. Republicans pass grossly unpopular shit all the time and keep getting elected. There's more of us than them. It's time to be more concerned about getting us out than tip-toeing around them.
Sometimes you have to say fuck it and do the right thing. Do it and explain why you're doing it. One of the main facets about politics is selling yourself and selling your positions. Fucking sell that shit. Stop cowering in the corner hoping they notice you -- be aggressive and make a move. You have the right positions and you have the numbers if you give those numbers something to rally behind. This is as good a selling point as any, but it doesn't have to be the only one. Show that you're serious about upholding the laws and norms of this country while also discussing options to improve the life of every-day citizens. It's not enough to say that you don't like what the Republicans are doing -- you gotta show that you want to do something differently. If you don't, then there's no reason for you to be there in the first place.
If the litmus for anything is whether or not it passes the Senate, why bother passing anything? McConnell has made his position very clear. This is all designed to get the fact out that there was obstruction by the POTUS and the GOP did nothing. It's literally ready made ads that you are trying to enforce the rule of law and the other party doesn't believe in it. It's aggravating how bad this is being handled and how little they have planned any of this.
If Trump loses in 2020, November and December are going to be very crazy and very scary. Throw in a sharp economic downturn and/or war in Iran...
This combined with what they chose to indict Julian Assange about is really scary. I don’t want to root for Assange, but the way this is being framed is basically saying that the justice dept can go after publishers of classified info while the govt. simultaneously declassifies what they want us to know. This is super dangerous. It’s all out war on the media while creating the framework for a propaganda state.
