65-79 will be fun. I'll believe Gable is a match for Coon when I see it but he was damn good today

Have they done the 3rd place matches? MyMar couldn't penetrate Heflin's defense and Moore wrestled well but got caught. Certainly better than Sasso today.

They wrestled guys who have a lot more experience for one. Kollin I thought looked great today. I still think they'll be ok.

More worried about Gavin Hoffman. And Sasso gassing is a thing.

Still think Sasso has potential to be elite but you rarely see the best of the best gas like he did today. Hoffman has always been a bit limited, he'll work enough to be an all American and a bit higher but he's just not that talented.

I'd attribute it to being the offseason, but this is something we've seen before.

And it's not like he wasn't training to make the JR team. This has been the goal.

Granted everyone was blowing big leads to Brayton, but none gassed like Sasso.

I still think he's a title contender next year.

On the other hand, I no longer think Gavin Hoffman is an AA.

I said last year I'd never pick against Gable in a match.

He gets wrecked by Coon at WTT.
He loses to a jabroni named Khasanboy at junior worlds.
He loses two matches to Cassar in March.

So I went against my natural inclination and chose Coon in the WTT rematch.

Gable techs Coon 13-3. The Gable era is here. 13 years is my prediction.

lol heard about this on FRL and it's just fantastic.

Abdulrashid Sadulaev's birthdate is listed as May 9, 1996. This is significant for a couple reasons.

    1) Birthdates are important in wrestling because of age-level competition internationally. Sadulaev won Cadet world titles in '12 and '13 as a 16 and 17 year old and immediately bypassed juniors to start a senior career that has seen him win 101 out of his last 102 matches after losing his very first senior level match (he's 101-2 overall in international competition).

    2) May 9 is a very significant day in Russia. It's Victory Day, the day where they celebrate the WW2 victory over Germany. Could this be a coincidence that he was born on this particular holiday? Certainly. However...

    3) An internet sleuth found an article from a couple years ago profiling Sadulaev and his exploits. He is a very bright guy and got perfect marks in school. The article went as far as obtaining his school's gradebook and points to Sadulaev's scores to prove that he, in fact, did make perfect grades in all of his classes.

    4) However, you can CLEARLY see right next to his name, and alongside those of all of his classmates, that their birthdates are all listed as 1993, not 1996.

    5) Sadulaev's REAL birthday is 10/6/1993, making him 18 and 19 when he won his two cadet titles instead of 16 and 17, and instead of celebrating his 23rd birthday two weeks ago, he's in fact just more than 4 months away from turning 26.

    6) Russia cheats.

The article, you can clearly see the pic if you scroll down:

I suppose it could be argued (weakly) that it says 1995 vs 1993 but I mean they clearly changed his birth day to make him younger than he is either way:

On the bright side, Sadulaev's shelf life is 2.5 years less than it would be if he really just turned 23.

He'll be turning 31 a couple months after the 2024 Olympics.

Instead of being a year and a half older than Sadulaev according to listed birthdays, Kyle Snyder is actually about a full year younger.

Burroughs and Green have really dominated the scene domestically the last 5-6 years, manning their weights every year.

However, Green lost at the US Open this year to Ryan Deakin (still in college at Northwestern). He won the WTT and now has a best of three against Deakin to win his spot this year.
Burroughs has best of three against Isaiah Martinez where he is a heavy favorite to return to world's for the billionth year in a row.

Other than those two internationally, Colton McCrystal has been competing. He went to U23s and performed surprisingly well there, he won against a tough opponent from KGZ before losing to IRI. He won Pan Ams. Then at WTT he just lost a crazy first round match against Dean Heil that he absolutely BLEW a huge lead late. Like 8 points with 7 seconds left or something. He's been better than expected for sure.

This is for you, duke. Real white person shit right here.

I would be very, very surprised if Wisconsin is not his destination. Unfortunately for him, Wisconsin's hole in the lineup is at 133 pounds (where he has wrestled for the last three years). However, like I've said here a dozen times, the 2020 olympics is going to have a major effect on the college wrestling season next year.

If Seth wrestles at 133 pounds, he's basically giving up on his olympic dream for 2020. If he goes 141, he's plenty big enough to make 65kg in time for the qualification process.

Wisconsin his Tristan Moran at 141 and Cole Martin at 149. No one really at 133. Wicks at 57/65 so those are set.

Will be interesting to see what happens, 133 or 141 is going to be getting another title contender though.

If he goes 133, oh my.

Wow, this magicman news stinks. Fuck.

My thoughts immediately go to two contrasting scenarios:

    1) What if Downey gets trucked at worlds? Do we have any issues qualifying the weight for Tokyo? I don't want to have to wrestle for our 86kg spot next spring, I want it in the books now.

    2) What if Downey gets a good draw and somehow wins a bronze medal? That means that he'd get a free ride to final x, while David Taylor, J'den Cox, Zahid Valencia, Bo Nickal, Mark Hall, et al have to wrestle at OTT for the right to face fuckin PD3. This is such a big opportunity for him.

EDIT: Seriously laughing at the possibility of David Taylor and J'den Cox, two defending world champions, wrestling a historic rematch in the Olympic Team Trials finals for the right to face fucking Patrick Downey III.

This is noteworthy for Ohio State's '19-'20 season for a couple reasons:

    1. Kaleb Romero back up at 174 pounds potentially. Wrestling at 79kg (174) this weekend.
    2. Jaden Mattox at 74kg (163) instead of 70kg (154). He has struggled to make 157 in the past, missed weight for a tourney last year. Might need him as starter at 157 in '20.
    3. Chase Singletary at 97kg (213 lbs). Is he cutting back down to 197 in anticipation of Kerkvliet's arrival? Could DG be going right away if his knee is healthy?

People are just assuming 133 because he's been there the last few years and Wisconsin has an opening at 133.

I think it's foolish. The kid wants to wrestle in the Olympics. He can't do that if he wrestles 133.

Not saying he's not going to wrestle 133 I just don't think it's a slam dunk.
