I see this thread isn't gaining much traction, but with esports getting exponentially bigger every year, this situation (possibly legal case) could have a massive affect on esports in the future. Here is a great twitter thread on the legal ins and outs if anyone is interested in learning more about how esport organizations/players operate and make money.
it could really blow orgs up badly the tfue contract is absolute garbage, but they have said they've fixed it with a new management/legal team but it's gonna really shine a light on how bad some of this stuff is
After reading more about it, couple thoughts: -It's understandable that he wants to get out- the biggest reasons likely being: 1. to make himself totally free to find his own sponsors and not limit himself. He's gotten so massive that he would just make a lot more money and have much more freedom that way. 2. To ensure that Faze won't try to collect on a large chunk of his earnings, even though it doesn't seem that they really have or were planning to. Just kind of a way to try to protect himself in the future. -It does seem like the original contract he signed was massively Org.-favored. (At least, by the level that he has out-grown it at this point) -Coming out originally saying that Faze pressured him into drinking/doing dangerous stunts was really shitty and a pretty clear attempt to just swing public perception to his side/hurt their public standing. (Dude's been posting videos of himself shotgunning beers and doing crazy shit long before he ever joined faze, and he kind of walked those accusations back once people pointed out how ridiculous that was) By all indications Faze were totally blindsided by that, were trying to rework his contract to something much more fair to him- and that was something that potentially could have done massive, irreparable damage to their brand. It seems like the org was at least trying to do right by him, and he straight up went for the throat out of nowhere. -No one really comes out of this situation looking great.
In tfue's response he said he told his lawyers he didn't want the drinking/stunt stuff to be in the lawsuit. And this is all coming because of how much money is involved in the fortnite world cup. He doesn't want to lose any of that money, and that's understandable. Faze is trying to get a cut of that, otherwise I honestly think they wouldn't be fighting so hard against this. I would also say it seems likely there is some stuff in the background that hasn't gotten out. Faze Clan has said they tried to re-work it but I'm guessing there was still something they couldn't come to an agreement on. Cloakzy even said it's not a Banks issue, it's others in faze clan that are making this difficult.
0% chance they just put that in without talking to him about it first/his knowledge. good way to make him look stupid if he gets asked about it.
