truly warms my heart seeing how women's soccer is being embraced in Europe/SA right now. Atleti-Barca, Boca Juniors, now PSG have all had awesome moments in the past few weeks.
Isn't that one of the issues with the USWNT? I thought I had read at some point that due to the way the pay is set up it greatly incentivizes the players to stay around as long as possible, which means less and less new blood because the older ones won't step away. Of course I could be mis-remembering and 100% wrong on this.
It’s why they hang around as long as possible but it’s still up to the manager to keep calling them in. Which they continue to do so when they’ve won a lot in previous years. We’re still obviously a favorite but with Europe taking the sport much more serious, it’s gonna be tough to win it in France.
Germany, France, and Sweden should all be favorites over us with England not too far behind and that's just Europe.
2019 Women's World Cup odds WORLD CUP TEAM ODDS United States 2/1 France 7/2 Germany 11/2 England 7/1 Japan 14/1 Netherlands 14/1 Brazil 20/1 Sweden 20/1 Australia 20/1 Spain 25/1 Canada 25/1 Norway 30/1 Italy 50/1 China 50/1 South Korea 60/1 New Zealand 60/1 Scotland 100/1 Argentina 100/1 Chile 100/1 Nigeria 250/1 Cameroon 500/1 South Africa 500/1 Jamaica 1,000/1 Thailand 1,000/1
They have a few superstars from other countries but Lyon is mostly French, they're gonna be a force. Dutch won the last Euros and Miedema had a crazy good season for Arsenal, 14/1 seems rather low for them. Look at me acting like I know what I'm talking about, looking forward to the tournament though.
The don't think the betting markets are as savvy on women's soccer.. there is just nothing over the last 2 years that makes me think the USA should be the favorite. An early knockout upset would not surprise me in the least. France, Germany, England, Sweden should all be expected to have a better showing and that's just Europe
Ertz wins the US Soccer Female Athlete of the year over Rapinoe who won the World Player of the Year ok
Ertz was a cb playing out of position in mf. She was the forth best midfielder on the us team at the World Cup. So yeah, not sure she deserved player of the year.
She was always the preferred holding midfielder when there was any important game. And being there allowed the other three, in which ever pairing they were in to go upfield because she won EVERYTHING in the midfield at all times
Ertz in the midfield was probably the #1 thing fans were wrong about and Ellis was right. she was great.
