You know damn well I went to a match and wasn’t a fan until after that. The only reason I am a City fan is because United and the Milan clubs weren’t home midweek when I was over there in Spring 2012.
Pretty sure NK has somewhat close Brit relatives who are lifelong City fans so he’s grown up with it his whole life
American European soccer fans criticizing other fans for how they chose their club is hilarious Happy to say I had no clue what money meant in soccer or who even owned City when I started pulling for them
Ah the famous story of sitting on his grandfather's lap listening to a ham radio as Dickov slotted home the match-tying goal in the 95' Don't be so gullible Wu
You’re not a true fan unless you’ve cried in bed clutching the club’s scarf and singing their most famous song
Frank Martin I’m 90% sure I’m the longest tenured fan in the local City supporters group and I know you would love and expect that so wanted to let you know
It’s been 7 for me. Certainly not something I expected at the time but I watch more of the sport than anything else. I have watched U17 and U20 World Cups, WWC and countless random league matches but I wouldn’t watch nearly as much without City. Just wish I’d gotten to a match in Germany too.
Also my brother gave me so much shit when we got back about how pissed my wife would be looking back in 5 years at all our pics of the trip and “Oh look there’s that stupid sky blue jacket Shaun’s wearing” So when it was 5 years later I texted my brother that I showed him and now I could stop following but that I proved my point
Sure you can be a fan of a European soccer club, but at least be honest about why you're a fan. NittanyKnight wasn't listening on a radio for the 1999 Football League Second Divison final and Shaun wouldn't be a Man City fan if they were finishing 15th in the league table instead of challenging for the league title. But no one should really be supporting a club like Manchester City with their owner's record on human rights abuses and nefarious activity the same way no one on here actually defends the Qatar World Cup bid.
I think this is what confuses me most about your story. So you're visiting your sister-in-law in Germany, correct? And your only options to attend a soccer match are either in Manchester or Milan?
because he’s a sociopathic loser who’s been whining for 2 weeks now about his team not winning the league again.
I don't really care I just find it odd he made up this weird excuse instead of just admitting, "I just started rooting for a team I thought would win a bunch of trophies with their oil money."
Just a heads up, but if you really want to get to a poster you have to make it realistic. Posting this or the emasculated comment doesn't really hurt anyone's feelings when the sender and receiver both know it's not true.
She lived in Western Germany near the France board. In Kusel. I honestly don't know if they have a club or not but wish I’d gone to see FC Kaiserslautern as they were close and had an American (Andrew Wooten). But we also were only there 1 weekend and my wife and I went to Paris. Didn’t know of PSG at the time but we also had tours booked anyway. Anyway not that you care for the actual details of the thought process but Spoiler My nieces were on Spring Break while we were there so SIL wanted to take a trip. She was looking at Milan and England. London was too expensive so Manchester was the option. Looked for things to do in Milan and saw about matches but neither Inter or Milan were playing. Checked United’s schedule because well I followed the USMNT so most anyone who follows a little knows of United. Away to Wigan. Saw there was another Manchester club and they were home and that was that. We also spent 1 day in Munich. I saw a Bayern shirt and remember asking my SIL “Is that one of the German teams”, and she laughed and said “It’s THE German team” At the City store after the match the cashier was telling me I needed to get to a match in Germany if I could because Germany has the best supporters I know you don’t really care about all this and you’ll say you don’t believe it but we both know that you know I wouldn’t lie about it
I was at Maine Road in April 98 for City 2-2 QPR, basically clinching relegation from Division 1. BUT BUT OIL MONEY. Had dinner with the first team at the Etihad Campus this past January. My favorite part of that beautiful facility is this quote from the great, benevolent Sheikh Mansour. Imagine taking the easy road and latching on to a team like Liverpool or United or Madrid because they were always on TV!
Inter hosted Siena the same day you saw Manchester City play West Brom. Sorry Shaun but you just ran a sim tracking every detail of the matches on FIFA. You’re a very detailed person. No one is honestly going to believe your assertion you looked up soccer matches in Manchester and didn’t even bother to look at the the league table.
Diehard Man City fan since ‘99, tmb user since 2011, first time soccer board poster March 2018. Glad we finally found a true Manchester City man that’s not in it for the trophies.
I had to look this up because I didn’t believe you. I am stunned. I’m going to take Mary why we didn’t go to Milan, maybe my details on why we didn’t go there are wrong. I’d remembered it as them not being home but now I’m shook
I just remember back in the day when Miggy left Atlanta for Newcastle and I've been a fan all these years since
this argument has gone in a bunch of different directions, but I was never trying to say you couldn't be a fan of a team. I never stopped being a fan of PSU, but I also think people who shrug their shoulders at or try to deny what happened there under Paterno are pieces of shit and it affects my feelings about the school. I think where this oil money that is funding these clubs comes from is a pretty similar situation.
I’m not saying you can’t be a fan either. At the end of the day we are all bandwagon fans. My issue is posters not being honest about why they’re rooting for a club. I think it goes hand in hand with your point. Those who are willing to be dishonest about why they root for a club are the ones willing to look past the dirty money funding the club.
i, personally, have been supporting spurs since the late 1800s, and i would love to see someone attempt to argue that point
i remember listening to city games on the radio while sitting on grandpappy's lap. those were the days
That’s what one of your fans actually claimed. We had a guy that claimed he just happened to be in Istanbul during the champions league final and his dad bought tickets on the street for them to go. That’s how he became a Liverpool fan. Luckily he stopped posted when Liverpool struggled and is no longer with us.
Feels contrived like this is being leaked because the other owners in the premier league are raising concerns about family members each owning clubs in the same league.
It's all really weird. There's claims that they are brothers, cousins, and not related at all. Then there's claims that he's not even part of the Royal family.
