Zion has been the most hyped prospect since LeBron. Doncic was not even the #1 pick. Just because someone breaks out as a rookie does not mean you can go back and say "Doncic was such an amazing prospect, probably a better prospect than Zion." He obviously wasn't even as hyped as Ayton.
even if you'd prefer to have Doncic over Zion right now, that doesn't alter their totally different grades as "prospects"
Luka’s skillset can fit on more roster types. Zion is a mutant but has some holes in his game, and on the wrong roster would get gummed up
Ah I get it now. Simmons was in love with doncic pre draft, so perhaps he has some ground to make that case. He’s also in record saying he thinks Zion is a future all star. The point made in this thread that luka can complement more rosters is accurate, since Zion isn’t a great shooter.
now this feels like revisionist history. zion wasn't the unanimous best player in his high school class. and he's the top prospect in his draft class, but i'm not sure he's more hyped (accounting for the media era) than Oden, Anthony Davis, or even Wiggins.
This is such a funny thing to be arguing/debating. Ahh sports. I’ve sort of stopped following the NFL draft build up, but I still catch the draft. I really like how the NBA draft is so soon after the end of the season.
No, the exercise was to rank them as prospects entering the draft and not in real-time with Luka’s rookie year. The kneejerk would be saying the rookie of the year (who went third) was a better prospect all along than a clear #1 like Zion. And I like Doncic a lot, it was just very inconsistent from a logic standpoint- like with the Brandon Clarke rationale. Also not sure you can gloss over the significant difference in the defensive potential between the two. (Which they also ignored in the discussion). This sums up my larger point
Does joe house have any independent/original thoughts or is he the king of “omg bill I thought the same thing!” He’s like the cliche in a tv show when two characters go, ok say it at the same time, and then one character sort of goes first and the other person quickly says the same thing.
Bill is an entitled spoiled only child from Greenwich, do you think he'd stay lifelong friends with someone who challenged/disagreed with him often? The most "ball-busting" we see amongst his college friends is the lifeless stuff with JackO where he'll make a Big Papi steroid joke and Bill will sell it for 2 seconds and then move on
He provides nothing and I think everyone's accepted the only reason he gets forced upon us isnt for his great takes on food, golf, or nba....but because he's Bills college buddy that still kisses his ass. Not a great host, not funny. But for some reason Bill must think the public can't get enough of him.
I quit the ringer golf podcast when they made House the solo host. Haven’t missed it at all. shack house was good but solo house? No thanks.
After Draft Express moved to ESPN and basically killed their best content, I've moved on to the Ringer stuff with their big board for prospect info.
Anybody listen to the latest BS pod with Chuck Klosterman? They had a long argument about whether or not Andre Igoudala is a Hall of Famer; Bill argued for him, Chuck against. They then moved on to talk about Game 2 of the Finals and Toronto's success with the Box-and-1. Chuck said, "That defense shouldn't work at the NBA level because in theory teams should have too many good shooters. But then again, the Warriors had two Hall of Famers on the floor, so they should have scored at will." I thought it was funny, but it went right over Bill's head.
Bill’s guests for reaction to being sporting events has really gone downhill since leaving ESPN. He’s gone from getting reactions from Zach Lowe and Marc Stein to his buddy Joe House. I actually like House - his comment about grabbing and poking being his late night move with his wife had me rolling. But he’s better as a once in a while guest. Not as someone who’s going to provide insight on a Finals game 20 minutes after the game ended.
It’s House vs Cousin Sal in the championship of the “voice doesn’t match their face” tournament. For me, at least.
He has like 7 nba writers on staff and doesn’t bring any on his pod. I know they have corner 3, mismatch etc. (all awful), but I always figured he’d at least get KOC on once in a while. Instead it’s hammered House, Rusillo or no one.
Was very disappointed we didn't get Simmons going full samarrand on Derek Fisher's HOF case, seemed he was on the brink after the Robert Horry (excuse me, "Robert Whore-ee") take
It goes back to Chris Ryan screaming "Narcos" constantly on The Watch podcast. Bill thought it was cool/funny, and he wanted to be one of the cool kids, so he started yelling the ringer and it never stopped.
I'm here for anything Curtis does. Shoemaker has some verbal tics that be annoying at times, but agree it's a really good, unique podcast and they obviously have good chemistry being friends since high school.
The Hangover Rewatch pod was pretty good. Glad they didn’t spend 30 mins on what’s aged the worse like they did on the Wedding Crashers one.
Posted pretty much the same thing in the last page...they did totally gloss over all the Ken Jeong stuff as a byproduct of that though :(
Yeah, it was a pretty funny part. Their co-worker Donnie Kwak in February had written a commentary on how the stereotypes of his character were bad in the Hangover and his new special for the Asian community so i think out of respect for him they just barely talked about it all.
sure, but they just dismissed it as if it wasn't a major part of the movie, didn't make people laugh back then, and didn't launch his career. I don't think Jeong shies away from discussing the role.
Why did they keep saying Big Shot Rob during the HOF discussion? It is and always has been Big Shot Bob.
I think the Basketball HOF is too lax with who they let in and I don't consider Iguadola or Horry HOFers in that they were never consistently top 20 players during their era. That being said, seeing as who they have let in I have to think they will be getting in and its pointless to argue they wont be. I think if it was a strictly NBA HOF I am not sure they get in with higher standards.
House sucks so hard. He just comes off like a complete nerd. Stopped listening when he started getting more and more exposure around the same time BS was losing his mind over deflate gate.
They spent several minutes throughout the hangover pod on ken jeong, stated it was bad and specifically mentioned to read kwak’s article on the issues with the character. I really have no interest in a 15 minute chunk of time from what’s supposed to be a fun pod talking about ken jeong but to each their own.
am I alone in being totally in the dark about the white sprinter they talked about? Had literally never heard of him before
Good to see Jacko, like virtually every republican (Trump fan or not), also doesn't understand marginal tax rates.
