Agree on the difficulty, definitely a learning curve but a fun challenge (no where near as bad as DS). The expansions too, good fun
How early on in the game do you have to make decisions on build direction? something I should look into before ever starting or are most of the early choices fairly general upgrades for every build? Would love to have a nice equal mix of sword + spell attacking... just off the top of my head and having no in-game reference. Definitely will do hard difficulty. Games where you have to strategize or get your shit pushed in are much more fun
You can respec this is especially true for this game. Without the harder difficulty it’s an absolute joke and bore to play. It makes a tremendous difference
I'm doing a sign heavy build with some attack perks thrown in. There are vendors who sell clearing options which resets all your build choices, so you can tweak your Geralt however whenever. Check the Xbox store to make sure you get all the free DLC outside of Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine. There are some cool quests thrown in there. Most importantly, take your time. Do everything in White Orchard (the first area you go through). The side quests in this game are incredible, don't blow through the main story. Loot most everything you come across, crafting supplies and food dont count against your carry capacity. I wish I could play this game again for the first time, I'm jealous.
I started out leaning more towards combat but eventually leaned more heavily into signs, especially Quen
Pretty good about not barreling through games with good stories. put an absurd amount of time into RDR2 doing side quests and hunting and shit. The side quests had the best dialogue and character building in the game. Just finished the Download. Rolling up a joint and getting comfy since I'm off work tomorrow. Probably be back ITT around 3am with a first-play boner post.
Had no idea about either of these two items. Definitely going to check the Xbox store tmw and see if there is more I can download and do!
Oldest lank says to keep a map handy (any suggestions?) and watch YouTube vid on some mutagen system before starting. True?
Where The Cat and The Wolf Play is one of the cooler quests in the game. I missed it during my first playthrough because I didnt download it off the Xbox Store.
Just picked this up. About to finish AC Odyssey. Then on to this. Any good videos besides the one posted last page on tips when starting and what stuff to focus on etc?
Hello yes I played for probably 4 hours and still haven't done the initial main story quest of talking to soldiers about Yennifer yet. Killed a bear, well nightwraith, normal wraith, some guys from the shape of water. good stuff big fan
There's 3 skill trees to boost, I really only focused on sword combat and signs, didn't do much alchemy. Also rarely ever used the crossbow. Definitely use your beastiary to learn which sign spells work best against specific enemies. I mostly used Quen and Igni. Tho really you'll use all of them during the game. Sign to knock shit over, sign to confuse enemies, sign for magic trap. Lastly, probably the best Xbox One game, for frames. Run's so smooth.
Don’t be super drunk when they teach you how to play gwent or you may skip it entirely the rest of the game.....or so I’ve heard
I was adventurous and just jumped in. Learned by failing. Popovio or others would be better suited for that.
Make sure you upgrade the delusion (axii) thing in your skills tree and have it equipped. You get extra XP when you use it during dialogue/missions and makes it easier to avoid getting screwed or tricked or putting in more work than necessary, and it definitely helps in combat with most opponents especially in getting some critical shots in.
I didn't skip it but I was so drunk I totally forgot how to play it. In game I just kept getting beat so I said fuck it. Regretted that.
Yea I would just commit to playing a bunch of games right when you’re introduced to it to come up with strategies.
This was me. I also didn't pay much attention to the gwent tutorial but learned quickly by losing a number of times. Even kept winning with the Skellige deck. Maybe the first and only times in my life I won at gambling, even though it's fake, still felt good.
Gwent is awesome. It's also a good way to repeatedly take 10 crowns off the impoverished people of Velen. I feel like a monster when Geralt walks up to someone who's complaining of eating acorn paste for breakfast, and asks them to gamble the little money the have left in a game of cards.
Don't forget to help that old woman get her frying pan back. That quest actually alludes to something super important later on down the line, not really pertinent to someone on their first playthrough though. If you downloaded the 16 free DLC's, the merchant you save from the Griffin in the river at the very beginning will have some pretty dope looking Temerian armor to sell you. Definitley upgrade Axii sign to unlock dialogue options like Morbo said.
Oh and the blacksmith I believe in Oxenfurt, keep going back to get a rewarding quest line Edit: scratch that, Armorer in Velen
Is it worth while to download the free DLCs if I've already finished the game? Or are they only worth it on my next play through?
Forgot about the frying pan one did that. Pretty cool the using soot for ink. Part of what took me 4 hours to accomplish very little progress was reading all the beastiary, character pages, books, etc when I picked them up. Pretty much check any ! Categories in menu except the crafting supplies and junk. Smoked that nerdy queer in Gwent 21-19 / 4-0. Love those kinda games. Also got a little gunshy about using Jedi mind tricks in conversations after the first assholes in that Inn were giving me lip. Obiwan’d the fat one and his friend stood up and started yelling. And old man Witcher had just said to keep a low profile... what situations would it NOT be okay to use that in? Feel like I could have used it more considering I ended up showing these hands to at least 3 peasants in the first hour.
CyberPunk aside, I believe they’ve come out and said they’re completely done with the Witcher universe :(
Goddamn you all Pre-owned copy at GameStop around the corner + PowerUp Rewards Discount + $5 rewards certificate comes to ~$17 and change
In front of groups of people. There is a time and a place for it. With single individuals, it's very useful. Only worth it for the next playthrough. They have a Nilfgaardian and Temerian armor set that start at level 10 and 4 respectively. Also a bunch of dope Nilfgaard horse stuff. The dlc quests come into play in the mid-game levels I think. Also Ciri's alternative armor look is pretty sweet.
Also. This game in 4K + Audio technica studio headphone is #blessed. The gong for completing quests rumbles my brain though. Loudest noise in the game
I’ve heard mixed things and that gunplay in early Uncharted games is dodgy and they’re all offline so I. Can. Wait.
