I’m sure you guys already bought it, but so happy the reissued the first protomartyr record. That thing was out of print by the time under the color of official right came out so 99% of their fans haven’t heard recorded versions of songs like feral cats, Ypsilanti, and jumbos. Looks like the streaming version came with songs from their two excellent 45s as well. King Boots is a true jam and....you guys are going to shit your pants when you read this...some of these songs even feature Kevin from Tyvek helpin’ out on guitar. whoa! Cartier egs, bubba helms, oooooh. I do wish they had included the milk drinkers for you, baseball bat, and you’re with a creep. I was a bit worried this stuff would never again see the light of say after Urinal Cake records basically when inactive late 2016 after the stef churn record came out for the first time. Always wondered what the story was there. Still, their catalog provides the definitive documentation of the Detroit weird punk scene 2012-2016. I own the entire catalog and love every record they put out with the possible exception of that Moonhairy record which is weird even to me. It’s weird now to look back at the scene in those days, it all seemed so innocent then. So pure. The turning point in retrospect was probably the 2014 day after Xmas showcase at jumbos immortalized in the song Pontiac 87, but I think even the under the color record release show at lager house with spray paint and shells. It cost $7 to get in. Glad I got to be part of it.
I read a Casey interview or questions thing on Reddit a little while back and this was mentioned. Thanks for the heads up on this being out.
Aw yeah. New tunes from Slaughter Beach, Dog (Jake and Ian from the sadly defunct Modern Baseball, plus a couple other folks). New album in August.
Not very "indie" but... Currently listening to Smashing Pumpkins Pisces Iscariot. Siamese Dream and Mellon Collie were two of my favorites growing up and just realized I never heard the record in between. Yes I know it's B-sides and such but still interesting to check out. Cliffs: these new modern streamy things are cool bc you can listen to CDs you couldn't afford back in the day
wear earplugs at shows, folks especially if you are gonna see a band like METZ or something you are at a rock show, no one is gonna think you're a square. Protect your ears
White Reaper is coming to Phoenix same weekend as PSU-Michigan. Planning to go to that. Big Thief already got wiped out by a wedding. Fucking fuck.
I edited for a little clarity. Here is their post Hello friends, It’s the start of an important new chapter for Barrie. After a lot of consideration, we have all agreed that it is time to step away from our current band structure. Moving forward, this project will continue as Barrie Lindsay’s solo project, still under the name Barrie. Happy to be Here is not just a collection of songs, but the culmination of two and a half years of hard work, dedication, and shared consciousness. We have all put a lot of love and a lot of ourselves into this project, and will always look back on this time and this record with pride and with gratitude. Our last show with the current lineup will be at Rough Trade NYC on August 14. We hope you can join us as we celebrate both our time together and all the exciting things yet to come. From all of us here at Barrie, we sincerely thank you for being a part of an amazing journey. Love, Noah, Sabine, Spurge, Dom, and Barrie – Here is what everyone will be working on next: Noah and Sabine will be recording a new album with their band PSYMON SPINE, which will include collaborations from Barrie and other friends. Noah will also be creating new solo work (under his name, Noah Prebish), producing music for friends, and throwing his party series, Secret Friend. Spurge is working on solo material & developing a few projects with friends from his musical community in Brooklyn. Follow along via Instagram (@sspurgee) for now. Follow Sabine’s solo and collaborative work at Sabine Holler(@sabineholler). Dom will keep drumming with Barrie, and follow him at @_palmoil_ for his solo and IS TROPICAL.
Barrie reminds me so much of Fazerdaze very enjoyable stuff still showing up for me. Or perhaps you didn't mean the video disappeared. Personally loved it. Some really nice hooks in there
new Lower Dens album is out September 6. It'll be called The Competition First single is called Young Republicans
band called Black Pumas, seem to be a throwback in the same vein as Charles Bradley, debut album's out June 21st youtube rabbit hole strikes again
Sitting here watching BoJack Horseman and they closed an episode late in season two with a solid minute or so of Parade by Kevin Morby. That was glorious
Yes, yes it was. I'm so glad you're watching that show btw. Incredible; I've watched it all several times
Made a 2019 albums playlist a little while back off suggestions from this thread. Been shuffling through it to see what I like. Like Ex Hex Hand Habits Foals Better Oblivion Community Center Maggie Rogers Girlpool Local Natives Vampire Weekend Stella Donnelly Nilufer Yanya Sharon Van Etten Not my thing Solange William Tyler Twilight Sad Steve Mason Steve Gunn Jessica Pratt What else should I be on the lookout for? Basically I like "rock" over "folk" but I do dig some acoustic based stuff. That Better Oblivion Community Center album is great
Ps, bought tix for two shows yesterday: Lord Huron in July and Local Natives in September, both in Asheville Also going to Vampire Weekend next month in Charlotte
I liked the new Faye Webster after one listen. I think she'll straddle the line for you but give her a shot Black Mountain just released a new album. They rock. The new Nots album is gonna be a top 20 album of 2019 for me. It's a trip. Same could probably be said for the new Pile. People in here said great things about the new Wand album and I meant to check it out but failed to do so. I intend to correct that. Maybe check out the new Versing album, I thought it was wonderful
kevin morby tha god the national sharon van etten steve lacy big thief weyes blood american football jamila woods cate le bon slowthai
The Cayla Fralick album posted in here is outstanding. It would be up there for Album of the Year for me if Big Thief and The National weren’t so good
The new Institute record - Readjusting the Locks - is just sensational. Maybe my favorite of 2019 so far. Really impressed with how they have expanded their sound.
Thanks for posting either way. I was just reacting bc the song seemed to kinda go nowhere, barely any vocals, then I click the link and go to the Youtube page and it said something about a "teaser of things to come." I'm excited to hear what they do but I want to hear the album
Teaser or song, I thought it was super pretty. I love Whitney way more for their instrumentals than the vocals.
A universal favorite of the thread put a couple new songs out today. I enjoy this one. The other one, not so much on first listen.
jai paul (!!!) finally has a proper single and they went ahead and "officially" released the leaked album from 2013
