I honestly never heard the leaks back in 2013, so this is welcome news, and good to see new singles. Jasmine was just such an intriguing song, the level of hype is gonna be very high if he ever gets a finished album together for release.
these singles are “new” in the sense that they haven’t been heard, but they originate from the same time as the leaked songs, which were recordings from like 2007-2013. The official release is missing some songs from the leak, because they couldn’t clear some samples
Very interesting. The wiki article at least implies an end to whatever self-imposed hiatus he's had. Is that what your understanding is or is this just cashing in on his old work without an eye to the future?
he had a breakdown of sorts after the leak went down and the rumor is his label wanted him to go dark for awhile
Yes I liked this one. Can’t believe they just announced the Barclays Center and that they can fill that size arena. I like the other, but Hey Ma reminds me more of For Emma type tracks.
Fantastic! Just came up on one of my playlists last weekend and I meant to see what he was up to. Thanks.
You say "final show." Of the tour? Ever in NYC? Ever? I saw her when she came through Phoenix and it was fucking awesome.
Mitski went from like 12K followers on Twitter to like 140K in a span of 18 months. And her fan base is really obsessive and kins of weird. Could see her being tired of the attention (and harassment) she's gotten. Juky 14th at Stern Grove will be fun. Free show woo
Here's the Whitney lead single, "Giving Up." Album is called Forever Turned Around and out in August.
I don't know if we have any Mansionair fans here. I went to see them in Sydney at some dive venue (The Metro Theater) where MTV hosts an international show. I wasn't much of a fan coming in, but they can definitely be appreciated live in their hometown. The crowd was absolutely amazing and the venue was super packed. Me and my coworkers made a bunch of friends at the show somehow and wound up going to some speak easy later that night. Super fun night and marathon day that started with 8 hours at a tradeshow followed by a couple of hours walking the Botanical Gardens, a 12 course insane Japanese meal, then the show. Here are some videos. Lead singers voice is unbelievable although it could be confused for a woman's voice if you didn't know.
Recently added Wand & Slaughter Beach, Dog to my playlist. Also, kudos for Smashing Pumpkins B-Sides. Forgot that existed. Thanks, Chaps!!
That Cayla Fralick person's gonna be playing for free tonight in Cola SC. Gonna check it out if it's not raining
Ducktails with a new album coming out in a couple weeks. I know he's problematic but he makes music I really enjoy song is called Answered in a Prayer Spoiler
he was a fucking creep for years and it all came out a few years ago. that's why he got kicked out of real estate. then he handles the allegations really fucking poorly. julia holter had to have her lawyer get involved in their relationship - that's how nuts he is
I don't buy his music and no one books him in the US. Michael Jackson is still being played in pro sports arenas. I'm capable of separating the art from the artist People enabled him and stayed quiet for years. Same with Ryan Adams. See something? Say something Actually seeing Real Estate tonight
Uh wtf? No. His former band mates enabled him. They stood by and watched him be like that for years and never said anything. That's what my comment was about. Almost don't want to see Real Estate tonight because of that. But I love their music Hopefully I'm not a bad person for liking his music. I don't like him as a person
It's pretty crushing to love someone's music so much and then to find out much later that person treats people very poorly in real life As someone who is outside the music industry, we need people outing these folks early so I don't have a chance to fall for their music and can cut them out of my life before that happens. We need people to get called out sooner All I'm trying to say
Indeed. Were you there? I was already playing the game of guess which person is ashy larry. Must have been a lot of MBers on that block. I thought she was great too. I wasn't familiar with her previously and she says she usually plays with a band so I'd like to see that -- some of her songs were just so understated for something outdoors like that. She was just barely plucking the strings. I loved her voice though and I like how she plays that big electric guitar. Got some Soccer Mommy vibes from her for a lazy comparison. She's obviously quite easy on the eyes too
luckily every band from 2009-2015 made lo-fi dreamy surf rock so even though you can’t listen to ducktails you have every other band to choose from
i did see cayla last night...at bar none she's been playing with the dear blanca fellas lately. pretty sure i've posted them itt.
I was indeed, popped in for Prettier Than Matt and Cayla and some $4 Green Man’s then headed out. Thought she was really great too, definitely want to see her with her band as well. She’s playing the fest at NBT next weekend so gonna check her out there as well.
