I'm as big of a Mitski fan as they come (going to see her for the 5th time? on my birthday next month), but man her fan base is bizarre and obsessive. They deify her to the point that she's above criticism, perhaps that's contributing to her "time off."

That said, I think she handled her announcement kind of weird - just say you're taking a break! Instead by using terms like "indefinitely" and "last show", its not surprising people would obscure it to think she's going to more or less retire. But instead it was all "Lay off the queeennn!" and "OMG give her her space!!!" on twitter when people were acting confused like she was actually retiring. Additionally, after her "last show" sold out, she added ... another "last show" right after that one. I'd be a little bummed if I went out of my way to plan for / buy that "last show" just to get another one announced right after my plans were set, but her fanbase isn't hearing any of that.

I haven’t seen Local Natives but Middle Kids are incredible.

Yes, just got back. Local natives was absolutely amazing. They really have honed their craft since I saw them back in 2012.

I just had to deal with two annoying girls trying to pick a fight with my wife and I and our friends, but otherwise amazing. Will upload videos later.

 

What did they try to fight you about?

I love going to shows but fuck you if you’re going to talk the whole time. That always seems to be the issue.

 

It was so fucking annoying. We were on the floor for over an hour in the same spot and they pushed their way in front of us and accused my wife of putting her finger in their face. Then they kept elbowing me and telling each other that they were doing it as if they were sneaky. I flipped out on them, but I lose because I’m a man yelling at two ladies. Just annoying.

Let me preface this with the fact that I enjoy Local natives and have seen them 3 times. However, their tendency in live shows to just belt out the harmony in each song gets old and stale. I felt like every song was them just singing ooohhhhhhh aaaahhhhhhhhh. Lol, anyways.

 

I don’t see that broadly but then again this song does that, but it was the encore.

 

NYGator how were the new songs live? I feel like quite a few of them would be really good.

 

Real Estate played a bunch of new stuff in Santa Cruz last night. Should be a nice new album out this year or early next. Also played a ton of old stuff

Felt like I was a) the only one there by themself, b) the only one wearing a t-shirt instead if a button down and c) the only one not talking non-stop. Really shit crowd

 

They played a really good mix of new and old. I was surprised by how much old they played, but the new seemed to fit right in. Here is an example.

 

Here is Middle Kids. They were solid but the crowd was not there to see them.

I liked some of their earlier stuff and was excited for their new album and was a little underwhelmed. Only listened to it once tbqh

 

I can't say I agree, I thought Currents was fantastic. I can't believe it's been 4 years now. They've released a single here and there, it would be nice to get a new album soon to see if they're continuing the same trends in their music.

 

Tame Impala's music is good and so are their videos

 

Pile is pretty legit, whoever recommended this. Noisy and chaotic

Whew, that is the spiciest of takes. Can’t agree on that one.

 

I do think the school has a dumb name though, as Tame Impala is wonderful. It could be named after something other than the band though. You know how schools are.
