Tamyra is a legit badass, would love to see her get that gold this year. She's had a great year, lots of competition
Gable is so talented but has some work to do on the mental side. Those were both right there to win and Gwiz is not a world-beater
I thought Zain got screwed out of 2 points twice in that match. Once in the 1st and once in the 2nd. edit: nm
There's no way you can switch that, a minute ran off the clock without a challenge, no way was that clearly 2 red only on the initial move
The worst part is Yianni wrestled the rest of the match thinking he has a lead. You change a call, go back to that time, fucking bullshit.
I have no dog in this fight, but I'm still angry about this. What an absolute joke to make that change and end the match with it
Really disappointing that the first 2 didn't go 3 matches. Feel J'Den is the most underrated US wrestler by a lot, people just seem to take him for granted when he's absolutely incredible.
Also, J'den is incredible and perpetually underrated. DT might have been the 2nd best wrestler in the world last year and not sure I can pick him to beat J'den at 86 in 2020
Best sweat game on the planet. Final X 2 years ago was my first time on flo and that match vs Taylor was just the best.
I'll never be on the opposite side of JB when it comes to anything wrestling and he was up in arms about that so tells me all I need to know. Zain will be a fine representative though and that rivalry will be amazing. Zain probably has 4 years on him but he's crazy and sure he'll keep improving.
Gotcha. There was a portion of the book Cost of These Dreams on Dan Gable that was very interesting. Was why I asked.
If it was in fact the call from :45 or :57 or whatever that they overturned, I think the protest is completely valid. But what do you do if you are USA Wrestling?
I say go best of 3 again. Being a ref isn't easy but they really like to fuck up everything great about sports.
Just watched the 2nd match (Zain and Yianni), and I think it's utter bullshit. I don't even know what happened, but however they scored it seemed like a farce. Yianni's style completely contradicts the scoring rules of Freestyle, and that match kind of highlighted the problems with the Freestyle score system. Anyway, the match looked like it was Yianni's all the way, and there really should be a 3rd match between those 2. On a personal note, I really enjoy watching Yianni wrestle. I love the funkness he's got, and he does it better than anyone I've ever paid attention to.
Finally watched the second Yianni Zain match. Think the scoring of the first TD/exposure for zain was lame. Should have been 4-2. Had no issues with the challenge, that sequence ran an entire minute, so Cael was right to let that play out and I think the ref got the points right there. The issue was the refs didnt go back to the point of overturn and wrestle the final minute. I think the outrage there is a little overblown, and more a symptom of people wanting more wrestling from these two (no arguments there).
Outrage is mostly that, one, it was incorrectly given as 2-0 for Zain. The US is the only country in the world of wresting that Yianni could possibly not have been given 2. That would be a lot more likely to be 2-0 for Yianni in Europe or Asia. And, most importantly, there's no precedence for reviewing a full minutes worth of action. It shouldn't have been allowed and it gave Yianni no chance to counter. Cannot end a match on a review of points from 1 minute earlier. Also agree that the initial sequence never should have been 4-4. That was nuts
VT going to tOSU next year. That’s cool. Glad Final X is at 7pm ET tomorrow, 6 was a little early last week.
Jordan Burroughs missed weight on his first two attempts. He weighed in at exactly 74 kg on his last attempt with 3 minutes to spare. We were that close to having IMar as our 74kg rep.
That's why he's Jordan Burroughs. Thankfully it happened that way and not the refs being stubborn and refusing to overturn an incorrect call
Obviously easier being 100 pounds lighter but Burroughs vs Gable last week is night and day. Both guys clearly gassed; 1 doesn't even fire a shot and the other just goes so hard for 20 seconds to break his opponent. Not gonna beat Sidakov though without some major improvement
