Hopefully we look back at the summer of 19 fondly when Josh Sargent puts in 10+ for an above average Bundesliga side in the next couple seasons and wonder what could have been
They’re legitimately losing a generation of fans right now. Went to the game today and it was horrible. Weather was perfect and we couldn’t even get 24k for the national team. The women’s team played in Cincy last year and got over 30k. And that’s with at least 5-6k Venezuelan fans. Of course we play like absolute shit so those who did pay for the overpriced tickets are all bitching and booing. The team is a fucking mess right and I don’t see it getting better anytime soon.
My dad bought tickets for he, my brother, and I to go to the Panama game. Been looking forward to it for awhile but now there's this cloud of shitty hanging over it. It'll still be a fun trip I'm sure but it would be better if I could expect decent soccer from us
You called in a CB who's been out with an injury for a month and thought it would be ok for his 1st match back
Someone should ask him where he’s expecting the goals to come from with lineups like that. I get it, it’s going to be on Pulisic when he’s here but it sure would be nice to get anything at all going against teams like these last two without him.
The problem is after Pulisic where does the creativity come from? With Lletget out I don’t trust anyone else in the 10 role. We went with what 10 corners and 33 crosses today? You would hope 43 balls into the box would lead to something (and honestly we should of had a few between Arriola’s scuffs and Morris’ ass). This is why I posted that stejkal article on the “lost generation” we’ve gone an entire decade creating zero talent it seems. We need that group of U20 attackers to develop and fast.
This is a 5 day camp to audition to be added to the actual U23 camp in September. Notice that it doesn’t have the u23 guys that were in the gold cup camp? They already have their spots locked in. I would be pissed if we wasted Sargents time with this. The biggest take away with that announcement is two names, Gio and AOC. It’s basically an audition for 2 17 year olds to be added to the Olympic squad.
I’d say wait till after the actual games are played before we preach the demise of the USMNT. I don’t think we’ll look good in the group stage but still have hope that when we run out an actual 18 in the knockout rounds we can put it together.
I think he said he clipped this at the 80th minute. I wasn’t kidding when I said Zimmerman was our best option going forward:
A Gregg apologist? We just got ran off the field by fucking Venezuela. We should be lucky to advance from our group in the Gold Cup.
After waiting 18 months to make a hire they all matter. We didnt even conduct a search. Just handed the guy the job without anyone else interviewing.
Exactly. They could have hired Gregg immediately and we could've seen that "the system" didn't work 18 months ago
It's concacaf, who gives a shit? And we still hold it every two years for some unknown reason which makes it even less meaningful. Friendlies against actual quality teams now mean just as much if not more then the "federation championship"
I agree it should shift to the same schedule as EURO as far as the years it is played. That'd improve it.
Copa America is every two years for the same reason that no real qualifying is required for the tournament. Friendlies aren’t meaningful regardless of opponent. The top countries don’t care at all about the result. If you don’t care about the Gold Cup then you’re not leaving much to care about and I don’t buy that the US is good enough to be above caring about the CONCACAF championship.
I don't think they're going to play nearly as many which sucks a lot for us. With that in mind give me as many friendlies as possible against SA teams. Playing 98% of concacaf teams does nothing to help improve our squad.
It definitely improves our squad’s chances for injury playing on some of these garbage surfaces in CONCACAF.
this dumb opinion still triggers the shit out of me. unless your premise is that you're a Tyler Adams fan, not a US Soccer fan.
Red Bull people are saying he trained with them all week in Jersey to work on his fitness and seemed fine.
I'm a US soccer fan. This is his only recourse to get Gregg to stop playing him out of position, which would be better for the team in the long run. Call him in as a midfielder or hes not coming. He's also played the entire 2018 MLS season, went straight to Germany, trained with Leipzig, and finished out their season. So a he could probably use a break.
What's REALLY stupid is that we won't see if "playing out of position" is actually an asset for the specific makeup of the USMNT, which GB is apparently banking on. It may actually be something that works. Plugging players into their positions and expecting the national team to be a sum of its parts...it just doesn't work that way (in any sport except maybe baseball). So I was willing to see if a stronger side playing out of the back would actually boost the team in a way we haven't seen. But I wanted to see it, dammit. And if it was a disaster then we know for sure the coach isn't the right fit and we can start another 18 month "search"
I’m a US fan too. Tyler, at my last check, was a regular starter at CM for the team that finished third in the Bundesliga. At 20. He has every right to believe that regular time at CM for the USMNT is in the best interest of his personal career, his club team, and the national team. If we had Ngolo Kante playing CM and he refused a call up to play as a true RB because that was the only logical and fair place for him to get time and exposure, well then I’d feel a little bit different, but as I said last week we have a little league dad coaching the all star team who wants to play his son at shortstop while the kid whose been playing three age groups up and crushing it is told to go play a special fourth outfield position on the right field line and when it’s time to turn a double play he can sprint all the way to second base to catch his sons throw. It’s bullshit, and GB should be called on it.
In other news, I'm hearing Pulisic is being called upon by droves of 20 yo strange in London and has elected to travel back to begin training for Chelsea.
