14 Minutes From Earth on Netflix. Story about a Google exec who beat Felix Baumgartner's record for a free fall from space. And he didn't use some pussy capsule to get there, just strapped him to a balloon.

It was ok. Felt like there wasn't really anything happening, just a bunch of random mundane scenes. I know that's kind of the point, though. I'll be honest, I'm not sure I'm the intended audience of that Doc. Maybe it would have had a bigger impact if I didn't live in poor rural southern areas 95% of my life. Maybe someone without that background could watch this and get something from it, but I really just felt like I was watching random things happen in my town.

that's what I thought it might be, but I thought the trailer was perhaps purposefully insubstantial. I guess not.

Just watched “valentine road” on hbo. Absolutely infuriating. It’s about a 14 year old that shot and killed his classmate for being openly gay and wearing female clothes

I really recommend this. The amount of adults in this documentary victim blaming the 14 year old kid for his own murder is insane. You’re gonna be mad, sad, angry, etc

This is a super niche documentary, but I think it’s really well done. Westside Barbell is the most infamous powerlifting gym in America and arguably the world. This doc goes inside and shows what absolute psychopaths trained there and discusses their mindset, desire to win at all costs, and the fallout. It mostly focuses on the found Louie Simmons and how he built the strongest gym in the world.

This reminded me that I hadnt finished the whole thing

Now I'm 3 episodes into the second season and i am starting to think they should have stopped at the end of the first season (and i kind if liked the second season episode about the third coast)

Watched the Robin Williams and Ali docs on HBO this weekend. Loved both of them. Even with the last 15-20 minutes of both being real depressing.

Pretty good. Lots of neatoscience sprinkled with some now is the time scenes. Most of it felt like saying if we’re not gonna be about that green life then invest in these types of tech and we’ll be aiight.

Making electricity from ocean currents and artificial photosynthesis were pretty cool

Do they talk about turning desert into forest? Aka this video:

That's pretty dry (:drumroll:), maybe this is better

I had to stop and start it a couple times and was also :ths: but I don’t think that was one of the industries they looked at. Off the top of my head it was: (spoiler just bc)

    sequoia forests
    kelp/oyster farming
urban “farming”? (Idk it was a garden built inside an old pool)
Self-sustaining greenhouse complexes that run off outside carbon
Using timber/forestry waste to recycle into some kind of carbon fertilizer
Solar/wind farms (nothing new tech wise but showed the programs in place for designated areas)
2 different methods of generating and storing energy using ocean currents
Using chemistry to convert ocean carbon into “ocean ash”
A couple different factories in Germany iirc that take carbon from the air and store it in the ground and can’t remember what the first one did...
May have small details wrong on a couple of those and the artificial photosynthesis one mentioned last night I’m gonna definitely google today.

Only one real angry/fanatic part and tbh it seemed really justified. Rancher in New Mexico showing how old and shitty wells have no regulations for maintenance and are leaking methane. And showed how easy it is to fix them with 10 minutes and basic materials. But there’s like 18,000 of them so nobody wants to? Idk that rancher wanted to fight someone in a suit.

Those may not be new or groundbreaking but as someone who knew very little on the subject outside of the standard climate change talking points “ice caps” “carbon footprint” etc it was informative and cool to see the tech without feeling “energy shamed” or anything. And Leo basically opens it up like hey believe what you want but everyone you’re gonna hear from is a scientist who spends their life studying this so put your head in the sand if you want but they’re right.

They leaned more towards letting the data do the talking and saying this isn’t the quick fix solution but since we’re gonna keep using these cars, this farm accounts for X million cars.

I’d like to see an opinion from someone (intelligent) that thinks climate change is stupid/liberal whatever on the documentary. Never actually seen or participated in a discussion from opposing sides on the topic I don’t think

Roll red roll (NETFLIX)- this is on the Steubenville rape case. Not a lot of new info but does a really good job of laying out the timeline and it’s pretty crazy to see interviews of the kids in the following days

I love you, now die (HBO)- we have a thread on this, the Michelle carter case. Girl texts her boyfriend convincing him to kill him self. Goes to court. This is incredible doc. You see a lot more as to why she did this as she has a lot of her own problems. I’m labeling this a MUST WATCH
