of course, it's been shown to be very inaccurate as a method of actually discovering drugs. The handler has a large influence on the dog, and will often trigger a false positive. That can happen without the handler even intending to do it, just based on their preconceptions, which the dog picks up on. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news...-enough/?noredirect=on&utm_term=.3defbcc9fc0f
There usually is more to the story than the cops just being total assholes, but even the guy they had against the car was being polite and listening to what the cops were yelling at him. Both cops were total dicks, should be fired, and should never find another job in law enforcement.
Yes. So it is not widely known, but law enforcement can no longer delay a routine traffic stop for the k9 unit without PC/RS of a crime. If it is a normal traffic stop, the dog needs to be right there. Not to insinuate that agencies listen to this or defense attorney's are up to par on that. See here: The Fourth District Court of Appeal shifted focus from what is an objectively reasonable time to complete a traffic stop to whether the dog sniff adds time to the stop. Courts across the country have uniformly interpreted Rodriguez v. United States, 135 S. Ct. 1609, 191 L. Ed. 2d 492 (2015) as requiring a particularized review of the individual stop to determine, sometimes on a minute-by-minute basis, whether time is added to the stop. As for whether or not a K9 sniff is legit....I've unsuccessfully battled that before. What I find more often than not is the training isn't adequate. Here is a bit from a motion: In Florida v. Harris, the United States Supreme Court looked closer at the reliability of canines and handlers in Florida. "If a bona fide organization has certified a dog after testing his reliability in a controlled setting, a court can presume (subject to any conflicting evidence offered) that the dog’s alert provides probable cause to search." Florida v. Harris, 133 S.Ct. 1050. Dating back to the start of Yas’ career in August 2016, there is no evidence offered of Yas training with a bona fide organization for narcotics odor detection. Yas’ training logs were provided, but there is no video proof of any narcotics-detection training, nor any proof that the narcotics were pure in substance, and no data on false-alerts from the field.
That was actually just one cop who both yelled and kicked the guy and then went to yell and scream at the pregnant woman. Edit: I disagree with the notion that there’s always more to the story, at the end of the day these incidents seem to boil down to overzealous officers who don’t like having their authority questioned.
That’s a fact that tends to get ignored by a 4 year old, also regardless of value that response was over the top.
I’m answering his question. I don’t think anyone is arguing for the police. Ppl seem to be literally arguing with themselves ITT.
At what point is stuff more valuable than human life? For those cops it was 99 fucking cents since the life was a black one.
This is such a strawman argument. Do you believe a parent wouldn't notice if their child took a toy from a store?
LOL. If you believe this was the appropriate way to handle a child's petty theft from the dollar store you're simply too stupid to argue with.
My kid carries shit in her arms all the time. She goes in stores carrying stuffed animals and dolls constantly. There's no way for me to keep track of what all of them look like. If she grabs one and puts it in her arms while I'm in the store there's a close to 0% chance I'm going to realize it's not one she had when she walked in. You obviously dont have kids so sit this one out.
Another strawman argument. Where did I say the police reaction was appropriate? It clearly wasn't. But the fact you guys are arguing it's acceptable to steal is just odd.
So when you get back into your car and realize that your child picked up a toy that didn't belong to her, what do you do?
Kids grab shit. Kids walk out with shit. I doubt they didn’t notice when they were putting her in the car. My kids have never walked out with anything but I have noticed them having something after i paid I always caught it before we walked out the store and I just put it back. Honestly imo they saw it they just didn’t return it because they probably didn’t see it as that big of a deal.
If I realize it then, I take it back. More likely I won't even notice and my wife will ask me where it came from later and I'll shrug. Maybe it came from preschool? Maybe she picked it up in a store? Fuck if I know. Again, sit this one out bc it's a subject your clearly ignorant on.
Gracie has 2 stuffed animals that we genuinely have no idea where they came from. We washed them 3 times to sanitize them.
You guys create these false sense of authority of a subject matter. From the police report: But continue on with the false narratives to try to prove a point...
The little girl had a little purse, I just assumed she probably put it in the little purse and said nothing, but that’s irrelevant because the conduct of the officer is the only issue here.
Yes. The driver admitted to stealing. That's why posts like this are disturbing. This poster is just coming up with any excuse to confirm what he wants to believe.
Yeah I am not attempting to justify the behavior. It’s wrong of me to assume they noticed the doll. Maybe they did and like you says even if they did the reaction was way overboard.
That’s not an excuse, that was my assumption, whether they shoplifted or not is irrelevant, because the issue is the reaction of the officer. But I’m not surprised that you see nothing wrong with this officer’s behavior.
You're just reaching for straws at this point. It's just sad that we can't agree the cops reactions were overzealous and escalated the situation to the point they need to be terminated. With that said, stealing is also wrong and needs to be addressed. But common sense has become a hot take on here.
Why do you keep posting this red herring when the driver of the car admitted to stealing other items?
I would need to know what they listed the PC for the women’s arrest as......The merchandise the infant got? Principal to theft with the driver?
Nm I see it now. Excuse me for not trusting the police report from the officers. If it's a he said she said, I'm siding with the non-psycho side.
We get it you believe that the action of the family are worse than the action of the cop, I’m not at all surprised.
I just can't imagine being this intellectually dishonest. Your ability to just ignore anything that contradicts your belief is outstanding.
It's honestly scary how you guys can create a false narrative and convince yourself of it. Accusing me of being a troll doesn't really work when you've been busted using multiple logical fallacies and refuse to admit when you've been proven wrong.
