Pale Sun fucks, as the kids say, probably I understand their fans' complaints about the mix, but it didn't really bother me much at all, and I just flat out like these songs more than their previous material
pretty sure I've given that one a go, but sometimes when I find material I like from a certain band it makes their previous stuff I may not have enjoyed too much click, so for you I'll check it out again
What is wrong with you guys? Halfway through the new Baroness, sound is trash and so are the songs. Even took a couple hydrocodones an hour ago which usually means I can enjoy anything and all this album is doing is pissing me off.
everything is wrong with me on the bright side though looking at my previous youtube searches it appears that green and yellow were the albums I had checked out, halfway through Red now and I'm proud to admit this is yet another case of me not knowing what I'm talking about because it's fucking great
Alright holy shit I'd like to apologize to everyone who may have been offended by my earlier take, this album is a masterpiece, legitimately blown away here Will give Blue a go tomorrow
Baroness has followed more or less the same trajectory as Mastodon. Started as a sort of proggy sludge band and then morphed into more of a hard rock version of their earlier selves Baroness didnt write an album about a quadriplegic who accidentally travels back in time to Tsarist Russia though
An ex band mates new band. Pretty straight forward thrash stuff. and his weird industrial black metal type project
I think Leviathan is a bit overrated and gets so much love because nothing else really sounded like it at the time. Blood Mountain holds up better to me.
I pick leviathan because it had a new and semi unique sound and nothing sounded like it at the time Blood mountain is great also
1. Crack The Skye 2. Leviathan 3. Remission 4. Emperor of Sand 5. Cold Dark Place EP 6. Blood Mountain 7. The Hunter Awesome band. Did not rank Once More ‘Round the Sun because haven’t really spent time with it.
We didn't discuss it much in depth when it came out, but two years later, I still find myself going back to Emperor of Sand. It's awesome. Roots Remain is fantastic.
Hey bud. How’s it going? I personally feel much better than I have in years. I had to get away from everything for a couple months and reevaluate things.
The original release had mediocre production, I still loved it though. Not quite as much as Unanimated "Ancient God Of Evil".
The concepts, the playing, the synergy between those four are all there, they just aren't very well developed. And imo it sounds like everyone in the band is trying to show off. Brann Dailor even laughed in some interview about his "overplaying" on that album. It's easy for me as a fan to say like 8 albums later, but it seems like musicians who can play on that level should just write what they're into and their mAD sKiLlZ will shine through regardless. Plus the staticky guitar production has always irritated me. However, the Remission songs when I saw them live were sick. From the few dozen bands I've seen live, no one has really come close to Mastodon in terms of their playing. I might view it more favorably if that was the only thing they ever did but in the context of the rest of their albums I think it's on the weaker end. Then again I view them as a prog band at their core.
I liked it when it came out and it's grown on me since then. But it imo highlights the fundamental problem with Mastodon as they've moved toward the hard-rock-that-sounds-like-Mastodon area, which is that the only person in the band who can really sing is Brann Dailor. This is a problem because his signature style as a musician and Mastodon's as a band is that pretty much every song is going to have some proggy rhythm stuff going on and there are going to be like a hundred drum rolls. It's also a problem because his singing voice is actually pretty damn good I love his parts on Jaguar God, especially when they harmonize with the keyboard
Baroness is a band that I loved at one time but I probably won't even listen to this album because of how shitty the singles off of it sounded sad Also I saw them at the very last date on the tour after their big bus accident and they were sloppy and bad. Honestly in terms of bands that I was specifically paying to see, they were probably the worst.
Never heard of them but that was incredibly bad. New Valley Of The Sun on the other hand, quite good.
