His super hero rant was complaining about white males who have parts...they just happen to be British. But your point still stands.
part of me enjoys Mallory's sentimental nature in the rewatchables. Other times, I get tired of her repeating a movie line and then saying .... "incredible."
She overly sexualizes so many things and it's overkill to me. Bill does the same so when you put them together it's over the top to me. I couldnt get through The Natural rewatch with those too.
As I've gotten older I've just accepted that the sports personalities I like will probably sound stupid as soon as they try to move outside of that lane
I don't listen to a lot of the Ringer pods so Mallory doesn't bother me that much. I think she's a better fit with Bill than Litman and Dobbins. Simmons sounds creepy when he's with those two
Yeah those three arent a good fit. It's ok but I would rather just them take the movies. Bill on Pretty Woman seemed out of place.
Rusillos interview with Smith and Winston was good. He had done his homework and asked interesting questions. Winston was awesome, I just don’t see how Smith doesn’t get his ass kicked by Goodell and the owners at every turn.
maybe hostility is too strong of a word, but some push-back with some force against things. I get that KOC and the like aren't in a position to ruffle feathers, but people like Russillo or Sal have no reason to play nice at all times. It's interesting that (IIRC) Bill was a big Howard Stern fan, because Howard's show has so much conflict and raw emotion when it comes to interacting with his staff. To be fair, doing a show for 6 hours straight every weekday is way different from doing 1.5 hour pods a few times a week, but I would think Bill would understand the radio gold that comes from people not biting their tongue.
Anyone listening to the Luminary 99 Rewatcheables podcasts? Some are pretty good. I was jazzed for Office Space but Fenessy was hosting with two younger guys at the Ringer and it nearly wasn’t as funny as it should have been if it was Chris, Sean and maybe someone else. I wouldn’t pick Bill because he never worked in an office setting like that but it had a lot of potential. Fennessy just doesn’t have the personality to me to lead a rewatch podcast especially if he has to carry the other guys.
really need them to have on Chris Mannix for a boston boner troika airing of grievances that not all Americans like living in Boston
I’m am NOT clamoring for Bills bad takes on hockey, but it is odd the “Boston sports guy” didn’t devote any time to the Bruins Cup run, except a few min recently with Russillo. “Boston sports guy” was literally just “Celtics super fan 99”, because the patriots sucked when he grew up.
BS ditching any hockey coverage while Boston was in the Finals was actually pretty admirable and a pleasant surprise, hockey Twitter must've done an absolute number on his mentions to scare him off. Hopefully golf Twitter follows suit.
He did say he watched every minute of the finals but honestly very few care about hockey. I fast forwarded through that whole segment. I wish Bill would write more. Podcasts are easier but columns and mailbags were his best things.
This is me. I really enjoy the podcasts and I move the Simmons/Russillo ones to the front of the line whenever they show up. But I disagree with him a lot/think he's too much of a contrarian for the sake of being one. But it makes me laugh and they bring up things others don't, for good and bad. When free agency is done, I'll miss it. Couldn't agree more. Was super pumped for that one and then it was two dudes that had seemed to barely have an opinion on the movie at times.
listened to his ESPN pod because Woj was on, him playing the enlightened centrist re: the Masai/cop deal was the biggest betting lock of the playoffs
this pod was wild in real time, to the point I remember when and where I listened to it. And it's only gotten better over the past year
Nice to see Ryan and Bill could take time from ripping Lebron/AD move to discuss pick up basketball and who could beat up who
I didn’t need an hour worth of AD/trade analysis, so it was a welcomed respite. Bristol really seems like a bunch of meatheads, which should be the least surprising thing...ever.
i kind of enjoy Bill letting the facade go about his feelings towards Lebron since he went to the Lakers and the Celtics collapsed
I'm only about halfway through the pod, but I don't think they ripped on LeBron or Davis at all. Bill ripped on Pelinka for giving up that much when there wasn't another likely suitor, but where did they rip on those guys?
Agree that he didn’t rip them. I don’t think they needed to harp on the trade as much as they did though. Almost fast forwarded it to the KD part. Looking forward to the mailbag and gym corner when I’m in the car going home.
It’s the world wide leaders in sports coverage and half of the on air talent were former professional athletes. A majority of the other half likely grew up following and playing sports through HS.
for the record I hadn't listened to the pod when I commented on them ripping Lebron and was more a meta commentary on the past 12-24 months I chose to listen to the Lowe pod (will probably listen to Simmons tm) thank you for your time
Russillo told a story near the end about a time he was in a hotel watching some business show on Fox News and I immediately thought about this thread and how he would be mocked for that (and for his attempt to suggest that's out of the norm for him and that it was just a coincidence he was watching it).
That sequence was the biggest load of shit. He clearly had a conclusion he wanted then worked backwards. He even changed his argument on the fly from just talking the players on the roster to talking about tradeable assets
i'm so fucking sick of that word, and just that belief system in general. If you took a shot every time an NBA nerd said "assets" you'd be dead by the 3rd SimpliiSafe ad read
Does Bill know where DC is on a map? Because it’s not on the way to California. Re: Good Will question on the pod.
Also, bill and ryen had the same conversation about the risks starting a “worst year ever” podcast on the last two pods.
Lowe pod made me realize how crazy bill would be going “what if!!!!!??” about the Celtics not trading for Kawhi if it was any other team, as well as ripping them for not getting AD considering they had the most pieces to offer. All in all, hard to fault a team if they want to build for 3-5 years rather than a 1 and done, especially since there was some insane fortune in the Raptors making and winning the final.
i thought the Sean Elliott take was odd, in addition to glossing over David Robinson. Elliott wasn't far removed from all-star seasons where he shot over 40% from 3 (which I think was quite rare in the 90's)...oh and he was later learned to have been playing with a kidney disease
only listened to the first half hour of the new pod. I generally agree that LA sent an exorbitant package to the pelicans, but Simmons' assertion that the Lakers were bidding against themselves is a strange one. does he really think there wouldn't be a robust trade market for davis if the lakers let negotiations drag out into late july/august? especially considering a rent-a-player just led a team to a title
I’m confused how the Lakers package was crap 4 months ago, Lonzo couldn’t stay healthy, Ingram might be just a guy etc and now the same package basically but minus Kuzma is a major overpay. Lakers window with Lebron is small so they had to take a chance. If they win a ring, it’s worth it. If not, it’s probably going to help the Pels rebuild when Zion forces his way out of there in 5 years.
