He's said that in the past. Its why I think he stays on another year. But it will be interesting if all of the sudden LeClerc is now given great calls but the guys behind the wall
Good to see McLaren qualify well. Really disappointing for Haas at 15 and 16. Pretty sneaky decent positions for Alfa at 10 and 12.
Seb flashed some speed on the medium tires. Then looked lost on the soft. Not the type of drive you want to see after how things ended last race
I think I don't like the new universal red, yellow, white tire branding this year. Going back to previous years, the red was always a reasonable racing tire. You knew that the pink and purple were madness. Now, they show up some weeks and the red can only handle 7 lapsand are otherwise useless.
There is something wrong with the sport when you need to turn down the engine because you have to save fuel and you can’t push the car because the tires are trash after 7 laps.
Wtf is the Williams team doing with their lives? Why are their cars just incredibly slower in every race for multiple years now? I know they have a lot of history from the "old" days but damn...get your shit together or get some new racing team/company in F1. I would love to see Ford Racing make an honest effort in F1. They've shown they can do some really impressive things when they put the resources toward it like winning Le Mans in the years they give a shit.
Also for you guys that have followed F1 closer than me...it seems to me like Max would be the guy that Mercedes and Ferrari would want driving for them should any of their drivers move on or whatever. Did Ferrari make a run at him when they ultimately signed Leclerc?
Williams is broke. They don’t have money for parts on the car. Thinking they can compete anytime soon is just not possible. They were using Lance Stroll dad to keep the lights on and before that they had some Brazilian money. I’m not seeing the light at the end of the tunnel anytime soon. The daughter should also step down but she refuses even though it’s pretty much common knowledge she’s clueless
Seriously one boring race. The only excitement was on the final lap when the feed cuts from Norris to show Bottas in a section of the track that has no chance of overturning. We miss a wild 4 car battle. Speaking of the battle how in the fuck doesn’t Ricardo get a 5 second penalty for unsafe return to the track that caused Lando to go from 7th to 10th. Just got garbage all around from F1 this season. They promised the new package would give wheel to wheel action and no cars keeping distance for downforce and yet not of that has happened.
LeClerc has come up in the Ferrari driving academy. He was always going to end up driving for them. Question was when. Lewis is a guy who has grown up with Mercedes. He has generally stayed in a Mercedes car his career. Max came up in the Red Bull program much like Seb did. Is it possible he leaves for Mercedes or Ferrari when his contract comes up? Yes but I think a lot of where he goes will depend on the strength of redbull and where there program is. Since the change of engines they have been the third best team and on a island alone. I think they felt this year with Honda they would take big steps but seems like that isn’t the case. Biggest benefit to Honda’s improvement has been the home team. And that seems logical given they were sooo far behind last year.
So how does it work that they still have a team? Multi-year contract with F1 or something? Are there not other companies with sponsors and more money that would like to take their place?
They found a way to give Redbull (Gasly) a point... what a fucking joke F1 is. Seb shouldn't have been penalized and this shit shouldn't have happened either. But one forced the other. Just play follow the leader from now on.
That was sad to look at when watching the doc on Netflix, it’s easy to see that she is dragging the team down and she looks border line depressive. Not good for anybody, her health is probably suffering.
Man I hope we get another doc on this season. I just want two or three episodes on Haas alone. But yeah it’s time for her to move on. She took over for the family when no one else wanted to but she’s out of her league. Hand over day to day to someone who can build the program. She should focus on advertising and bringing money into the team
I think everyone took a run at Max when he was starting out to get him in their junior programs. Red Bull was winning titles at that time. Lewis took what was perceived as a massive risk leaving McLaren for Merc at the time, but Merc had Ross Brawn, Nikki Lauda, and Toto Wolf running the the team so it was safe to assume that they'd get it going. I can't imagine anyone would predict such dominance though. When Nico Rosberg retired it was after the season so the whole driver market was settled. They needed to more or less reach down for a driver from a lesser team which is how they got Bottas.
Gasly has been a massive disappointment. At this point you almost wonder if they would consider swapping he and Kvyat
Today’s race was the first time I felt tension between teammates. So silly season should be kicking into gear soon enough
Agreed on everything, and there is nothing wrong with letting top employees do what they are paid to do.
Qualifying looked like a helluva show. Hope the race isn't a snoozefest. Saw a neat show (maybe "Engineering Connections"?) With Richard Hammond where he focused on F1 tech. One of the engineers he talked to said that if cars qualified 2 seconds apart, you could bet that 1.9 of that time was aero related. Wild stuff if true. Same show they destro tested steel vsm carbon fiber drive shafts.
Lewis starting 5th, Seb 10th should be fun watching those two climb up the field. Hopefully for Charles his car doesn't fail him, he's been the fastest guy on track all week.
This is relatively obvious from this season's results so far, IMO. The Ferrari is up on power big, but can't always put it down. Supposedly the new RB aero stuff is helping them a lot, which would make sense with MV's performance. It's just sort of ridiculous how he's the only RB in the mix.
Fantastic race. I’m a Ferrari fan and I love Charles but it would be bullshit to take that W away from Max
They put themselves in this spot. That bullshit call on Seb is why this is even in question. In both cases and even last week with Daniel you are taking the racing out of the sport. There are times these guys can’t make moves and we are bored to death. We finally get action and you want to penalize them. Fuck off. It’s racing. Let them race
Most entertaining race of the season. Super happy that they didn't penalize Max. Refreshing to see a race where Mercedes isn't 1/2 or 1/3
Watched the doc and that was my first race to watch live. Very entertaining Enjoyed the Ferrari engineer telling Le clerc how far ahead he was of max with like 6 laps left and le clerc says leave me alone lol
Anyone with a hand in making Renault look bad is an option. Assuming the role from Red Bull of knocking the works team down to a b team is a likable position.
I won't try to stop you. I've got nothing against their team or drivers. The only team I don't like is Renault because French. The only driver I don't like is Lance Stroll because the only reason he's an F1 driver is because daddy's money.
Perez is also a massive piece of shit. He is a pay driver just like Stroll, and he is always wrecking his teammates with no repercussions because he practically owns the team.
Kvyat, Stroll and Perez all paid for seats. Funny enough Kyvat may be the best driver of the bunch and that's with him being put on the bench for a few years. I've read that Kvyat may be in line to replace Gasly just like they did with Max and Kyvat a few years back. Weird full circle if that ends up happening
In the early 2000's we had as many as 12 teams. In recent years its been 10 Seems like 10-12 teams since the 90's I think the app fee to join f1 is like 50m... so the money it takes to be a part of the championship is insane
Independent teams? yes. I think you only have 4 engine suppliers at this point. They all have "b" teams who are largely just filling grid. Mercedes, Honda, Ferrari and Renault. I think F1 thought it would be able to bring in more teams and engine supplies with the change to the turbo charged v6 era but to this point that hasn't happened. Edit: I think the only team to join F1 since the new engine rules came in place is Haas. And they are essentially a B team for Ferrari as the bulk of that car is provided from Ferrari.
I was also pretty easy to see how clueless the lady running Williams is in the doc Shocking that trust fund babies aren’t able to replicate their parents successes
In the 80s and early 90s, there were as many as 30+ teams which necessitated pre-qualifying before the race weekend even began.
She's in over her head. I don't belive she wanted this role but it was take the helm of sell the team and she didn't want to do that considering her father. That team is so broke that they don't have spare parts. I read that early in the season they have one spare part between the two cars. So if both cars needed a new front nose only one car would be able to get it. They would have to fix the other as best as they can. They are .2 to .5 seconds slower a lap to the 9th worst team at this point. Its beyond embarrassing
