Been a couple of years since I've gigged. Time just does not permit for it now, which sucks because it's one of the most fun things I've done. Yea, tiny stages always suck.
Singer's doing a pretty good job of nailing the quirky delivery on this one. Looks like that's quite a crowd pleaser with all the people dancing. Last night at our show people did the thing where they come right up front by the stage and get all excited....on the last song
Yea that guy is a really good musician. He also plays drums about 20x better than he can sing and play guitar so he's all around talented. What type of music do you play? Both those bands played 90s alt/rock, with a few songs outside of that genre. It's tough finding a balance between what you really want to play personally and what you think the audience will enjoy.
We are going completely what audience will enjoy right now. Lots of songs on our list that emasculate me inside a little every time we play them. With a new band though you just need material and kind of end up with whatever was convenient out of the gate. Hoping to get a little more strategic with our next selections. We have everything from Weezer to Beatles to CCR to Joan Jett to Hootie and the Blowfish right now. My preference for covers would be pick songs people are gonna know, but that every band in the world isn't already doing. Also gonna write originals too but no idea how those will turn out. Singer's a T Swift type, drummer thinks he's Dave Grohl, I grew up on 90s and metal, other two are classic rock bros.
Should I buy this from Facebook Marketplace? It's a Squier but that gold looks sweet and $275 doesn't sound that bad? I play a PRS but I'd like to have a Fender as well 2013 Squier 60th Anniversary Classic Vibe '50s Stratocaster $275 It's got a long name, but it's basically a special release Classic Vibe '50s Strat with a bitchin' gold sparkle finish, gold hardware, and a a cool anniversary gold mirror neck plate. Like other CV '50s strats, these have pretty damn good stock pickups, decent pots, and a beautiful tinted neck. Open to trades. I'd be most interested in left handed guitars or basses, EHX effects pedals, tablets, etc. Worst I could do is say no!
I'd buy it. The squier classic vibe series has a good reputation and that finish is rad as fuck. You can drop some upgrades into if you want. That said, strats aren't for me.
Looks nice but always try out is my preference. Sometimes more concerned with how it feels and plays versus what’s in the headstock.
Tough to say. That's around the price that you could find a used MIM strat, but I honestly don't know the difference in quality between that one and a run of the mill MIM. That finish is badass though.
Just built this ABY splitter from build your own clone. I'm going to mess around with a Royal Blood type sound. My plan is split my signal into two, send one to my bass amp and one to my Marshall guitar amp. The bass signal will be clean. The signal going to my guitar amp will be heavily overdriven with an octave pedal, set for either one or two octaves up. I'm still shopping for an octave pedal, leaning towards the TC sub'n'up or the Micro Pog. That'll get me the guitar like sound that he has. Royal Blood is a two piece, just a bass player/vox and drummer. He splits his signal like this and that's how that band sounds like full band with guitars.
I'll try to throw some recordings up once I get the setup nailed down. Actually a lot of bass recordings have the signal split, with one going clean and one overdriven. If a bass player hits a distortion or overdrive pedal it tends to lose a lot of the low end and gets lost in the mix as they say, so to counter it you have one clean signal and one distorted signal blended together and that's what you hear on recordings. But taking one signal and making it an octave or two higher to replicate a guitar is pretty uncommon.
Been wanting an acoustic for a while and just picked up this classical guitar. If you're ever looking for a cheap acoustic check out shopgoodwill.com. I got this for $10 plus shipping. It's a bid site so if there's something you want you have to watch closely but things can go for really cheap there. You'll also have to do a little research into what you're bidding for since there's not much of a description other than condition and dimensions.
Meeting up with a guy from Facebook tonight about a Mexican Strat HSS he's selling. I've wanted a Stratocaster since I was 13...I am excited about potentially making this purchase
Never played a Strat with a humbucker. A buddy of mine plays a sweet Strat with two closed humbuckers. I haven't seen many of those around, and it rips. How does it sound?
Yeah I've seen those and they advertise it like "getting the telecaster sound with humbuckers" but it's not quite the single coil sound to me and why not just get single coil
I am obviously not on the level but it's kind of mind boggling the way guys want specific guitars. Joe Perry sold a Gibson he had used on early Aerosmith recordings. He decided he wanted it back and he found out Slash had it and he begged for it back. Slash eventually gave it to him on his birthday one year. Slash has 2-4 LPs that have been with him for 25-30+ years that he still plays. I know they say every guitar and the way each piece of wood sounds is different. Those guys could have any guitar they wanted but there are certain ones they want and it's fascinating to me. I guess when you have the pick of the litter it's different. Idk my point but that gilmour guitar post made me think of it
For solos mainly. Sometimes that single coil won’t cut through the mix enough. I need each note of my lead slapping you in the face
I've never messed around with one but what can it do for you that boosting the treble on the amp's EQ can't do?
I always assumed that it was an EQ pedal but it really isn't. Think about it as a medium gain germanium overdrive to pair with dark amps.
Martin. Based less on careful objective analysis and more on that’s what Kurt Cobain used on MTV Unplugged and it sounded amazing
Most guitars are going to be pretty close in quality at the same price points. It's really all about personal preference
Martin is the gold standard in acoustic guitars, but both are good quality. Totally depends on personal preference. You really can’t go wrong with either.
Well after a few months, a couple of re-orders of paint, and lots of sanding I'm done with the finish on my Tom Morello guitar. I can start assembling it and then finally playing it. The finish isn't flawless. I have some sand throughs in a couple of different areas but after the polishing it shines like professionally made guitar. The work is slow and frustrating but getting to this point is worth it.
Looking good BJ. I see you've got the two volume knob setup for authentic Tom Morello pickup switch flicking
Guitar players -- what is your routine for cleaning your guitar. Every time I change strings I take an old pick and try and scrape off the dirt that's accumulated on the fretboard and spray this stuff called "Guitar Honey" on it and rub it in. Still gets pretty grimy though from playing a lot. And the back of the neck gets grimy as fuck after a while.
I may have missed this earlier but where did you get the body and the neck from? What kind of wood are they?
I try to clean it like you say when I change strings. I read or saw where you're supposed to put fret treatment on the wood 1-2 a year so i prob should start doing that as well.
It really hit me because I've been playing the same guitar forever and recently bought that Strat and I was like wow, the back of the neck is so smooth! Then I realized my PRS was still like that under the dirt
Both are from Warmoth. They build licensed Fender parts that you can customize. They only thing they couldn't do for me was drill and route the hole for the toggle switch. I had to have a local luthier do that for me. The neck is maple with a rosewood fretboard and the body is poplar. Their stuff can get pricey pretty quickly so I went with the cheapest wood they offer for the body.
All strung up. I’m waiting on a wiring harness so the pickups aren’t connected but acoustically it plays great. First time dealing with a Floyd rose so getting it dialed will take a while I’m sure. Any pointers from anyone on them?
No clue on the Floyd Rose question but awesome job man. Always wanted to do that but not sure I'm handy enough.
It’s not that bad. Start off by putting together pieces that already have a finish on them then work you’re way up to staining and/or painting.
