I'm pretty ok with taling two high upside, 18 year old Euro's. Probably about as good as we could have hoped for and was really hoping Dombouya would fall to us.
Sounds like there's some off the court/effort stuff there that a lot of people don't like, but he was a McDonald's AA and considered a first round talent before getting hurt this year and not having the year expected of him.
I don't think we're remotely trying to build for the future aside from the guys we're drafting. Certainly not at the expense of making the playoffs this year.
I mean that while they're no longer actively sabotaging the future, they're definitely trying to be a playoff team now.
They're trying to build for the future underneath a roster of vets trying to win. That usually works out poorly on both ends of that equation, but I think the "building for the future" part is about not giving up future assets for present ones.
I don't think it's a given Drummond opts out after this year. Will be interesting to see how many teams still have cap space, and how the center position is paid, in general. Teams have been devaluing the position a lot over the last 2-3 years, and he's not just going to give up $30M+ in that last year unless he knows he's getting a huge deal from someone.
Just looking at Rose's numbers, I really hope this is a one-year commitment. Anything more than that is irresponsibly stupid. His uptick last year was essentially him setting new career highs in shooting percentages from both 3-pointers and 2-pointers at age 30. Those numbers are extremely likely to drop back to career norms and he can't play defense anymore. On top of that, his minutes need to be managed and he'll probably need to sit a lot on back-to-backs, which is far from ideal when they just spent last season managing Reggie's minutes for the same reasons.
Deeper dive into Rose's shooting #s last year. 3FG% by month... October - 35% (8 games) November - 56% (12 games) December - 41% (12 games) January - 19% (6 games) February - 7% (8 games) March - 0% (5 games) In fairness, he was still shooting 45% or better for most of the last three months when he was in and out of the line-up, but those 3FG numbers already crashed back to earth and he basically stopped shooting them by the end.
Maybe you should be the pistons GM because I highly doubt they’re looking at him from a bigger picture
I'm really curious right now about what they think about Bruce Brown. Casey started him over half the games last year and seems like his biggest fan. Casey also said before last season that he viewed Brown's future position as a PG. I don't think that's a great idea, but unless Reggie is dealt Brown is at best #3 at that position, and I don't see how you can pair Brown at the 2 with either Jackson or Rose when the team lacks shooting around Blake/Drummond to begin with.
If he doesn't get a better offer elsewhere, I'm in favor of us bringing back Tolliver again as someone who mentors Sekou and plays some behind Blake in certain situations. It shouldn't cost more than the minimum to do it.
Probably money and playing time. Pretty sure he was on a minimum contract with the Celtics when he was last in the league, which is less than the $1.8 million he made with his Euro team, and he was only like #3 on the depth chart when everyone was healthy.
Not the full MLE, but most of it. I think there's roughly $2M remaining of that, plus something in the $3.5M range for us to add someone else. Other than that, it's mostly minimum wage guys
I'd rather they just kept Zaza at the same price if he's willing to come back. He seemed to be a good influence on Drummond last year.
Updated current roster: PG - Jackson, Rose, Brown, Bone (2-way) W - Kennard, Snell, Galloway, Thomas, Mykhailiuk, King (2-way) PF - Griffin, Sekou, C - Drummond, Maker Unknown - whether Sirvydis comes over this year or plays at least one more season in Europe If Sirvydis stays in Europe, we're probably looking at one more cheap big (like JaVale or Zaza), and then possibly 2 forwards at the minimum (one to compete for time with Sekou at the four, and maybe one more wing). The wing need might depend on what they see in the summer from Svi, Sirvydis and King. I also think dumping Galloway on someone who is looking to add a shooter on a decent expiring is a legit possibility.
Sorry, no news reporting. Just figured I'd post this. It's as homer as it gets from Langlois, but it's gives an update on the young guys playing for the summer league squad and where they see them now. Can't remember us having this many potential prospects (even if only one or two of them ever amount to anything) on one summer league team. Seems like it's usually 2 or 3 max.
what don't you like about it? He's making the minimum and will only play if 2-3 guys ahead of him get hurt.
