Probably not that low. It's not terribly difficult to trade a reliever for a good return in July. The caveat there being that Greene's career is filled with good stretches followed by awful ones, and this would be a really bad time for him to start sucking again.
We will be fine. He will probably pitch no more than 5 times before we trade his ass. He’s only throwing like twice a week.
And I’m looking through prospect lists for Braves and Red Sox, and I don’t see any of them giving up their top guys for Greene. Who knows though.
Those two lists are not the same. I can see the Red Sox dealing Casas (or literally any other prospect) for a reliever. Not sure if Greene is that reliever, but they don't have anyone good enough to be untouchable in that regard.
Right. Casas is only guy I’d want from Boston. I don’t think we get any of top. 3 or 4 from Atlanta. I have hard time seeing them give up Waters for Greene.
Every org is different. To this point, the Braves haven't been willing to move anyone of substance from their system for anyone. They might be really picky when it comes to what they're willing to do. Other orgs could be more aggressive.
Everyone. Boston, Atlanta, Philly, Washington, Colorado, LAD, LAA, St. Louis, possibly CHC, TB, HOU, MIL and STL. Everyone with designs on making the playoffs is always at least in the market for good bullpen arms in July.
You can scratch the Brewers off your list. We are only interested in salary dumps for non prospects. Best of luck fleecing some other desperate organizations but the Brewers will not be calling.
Fire Avila and hire John Hart to run the organization. He will clean out the front office and bring in some top guys to build a top notch organization.
Just trying to help you guys out. Hart would be a great hire and if not him look at organizations that draft and develop well.
I don't think the answer to the Tigers' problems is a 71 year old whose last run at the top of an organization led to unprecedented sanctions from the league over conduct in Latin America, but maybe that's just me.
I think Tucker is traded by the deadline. I'm just not sure it will be for Boyd. They've got Springer, Reddick and Brantley under contract through 2020, and Yordan Alvarez has seemingly passed Tucker on their young player list and is killing it in the big leagues at LF/1B.
Tucker, Brantley, Springer OF. Alvarez DH. Reddick odd man out. I can't imagine them trading Tucker just to keep a spot for Reddick.
They're not going to trade Tucker just for the hell of it. I don't think he's considered nearly as untouchable as he once was there, though, and I think they're going to be big game hunting over the next month to try to maximize this stretch where they have Verlander, Cole, Altuve, Correa, Springer, Bregman and that pen all in their primes. Again, I don't know if they view Boyd in that light, but if they're going for impact they're much more likely to move Tucker than Whitley or some other top prospects.
Cheeseburger boy will speak highly of kozma’s changeup and the things he brings to the table and this organization
This is as much as I can remember us spending on one guy. I've seen almost nothing on him, other than MLBPipeline said he just missed their top 30 list a couple months ago. They also listed him as an infielder, so who the hell knows?
The international signing system is beyond fucked and I don't know how much the rankings mean, realistically. They're so young, and most of the guys you see ranked are spoken for by age 13 or 14 and aren't really seen again in legitimate showcase situations by outside people after that. Ben Badler at Baseball America did a big write-up a week or so ago basically saying the system is so jacked up at this point he doesn't feel comfortable ranking players anymore.
Saw this blurb in an Athletic article on the trading deadline: Dave Dombrowski, the team’s president of baseball operations, clearly misjudged the quality and depth of his bullpen. He probably needs to add at least two relievers, no easy task with a farm system that Baseball America ranked last in the majors at the start of the season. Would have never saw that coming. The article had nothing on the Tigers, because it was about contenders.
I think it's a lot more likely the kid worked out for the Tigers shortly after he defected and they promised him a massive bonus then and he's been under wraps since then. That's how this shit works in Latin America. Kids basically sign when they're 13 or 14, and only way anyone else sees them is if they participate in an MLB showcase or if there's video of them somewhere. This kid could be amazing or awful. I have no clue. I find it extremely hard to believe this was some last minute money toss at some random guy to take their money. That's not how this works, and the the MLB.com guy who tracks this stuff had him connected to the Tigers months ago.
I mean give Faedo a chance. At last give the fans a glimpse of what the future could look like. Not some 2nd round draft bust that sucks ass.
