8.5 was the middle ground of Aho negotiations Habs keeping it at just one First with that aav is the smart play, Carolina dumb to not match it. Aho would receive a lot more on trade market.
I thought this was a pointless offer because Canes would be dumb not to match that. But to leverage that much real money upfront.. smart move
That’s a really smart structure to that offer sheet. Will be very interesting to see if Carolina matches that or not. I’d expect the big market teams that aren’t competing might look to do this to teams typically unwilling to pay high cash upfront to guys and see what happens.
Lol even Waddell is surprised it wasn’t more. Bergevin just ruined a great idea by being completely disconnected with market value.
He did like always and went halfway in. Just like he does at every trade deadline by getting a few holes patched up but nothing more.
We must have the dumbest GM in the league. Not necessarily the most incompetent, I’m just not sure his IQ is over average. And he manages a billion+ franchise. Amazing.
Lol fucking Bergevin. And he must’ve been so proud of himself thinking he’d lose only one 1st round pick.
It really is incredible. He does some good moves sometimes but that dude making millions and running such a big operation is at the top of the overachieving ranking. He is as dumb as a rock, on draft night when he got on stage to make the first round selection... right after he thanked the Vancouver canucks for hosting the draft and « also the st-louis blues for winning the Stanley cup » I turned to my gf and said « he is such an idiot » he thanked the blues for winning the cup.
couldn't be happier with the stars moves so far -pavelski in a friendly 3 year deal (no protection from Sea expansion draft, but he'll be 38) -perry on a lottery ticket 1 year deal -got out of pitlick's contract -resign janmark on a 1 year deal to see if he can get healthy -resign polak on a 1 year deal then you have johns coming back from injury might need a 4th line wing/center, but there's enough talent in austin to rotate some guys in and see who sticks
When asked why he didn’t go higher to force the Canes’ hand a bit more, “Sebastian was fine with that amount, we looked at the fit with our players, and it shows the fans that Geoff Molson cares” Oh ok
Lol, everytime I hear him talk in English or French it blows my mind how he got there. The guy can’t formulate a coherent thought
I get why the Habs did it at the number they did. They are betting on the bonus money scaring off the Canes, but if you are going to do an offer sheet, do it right. Assuming the Canes match, that's a sweetheart deal for Aho that will give them a ton of flexibility starting July 2nd, 2020 if they decide they want to trade him.
It’s a no risk high reward situation but it has almost zero chance of working...and now they are acting like they actually put their balls out there.
Pretty much every team in the Central except STL and WPG got at least marginally better if not significantly better. Gonna be a grind.
gotta be the best division next year* *no research was performed in the formulation of this statement
True, but he was very polite. Like always. People will still love him because he is easy to take advantage of
if you are upset with what your team did today, at least you didn't give Brandon Tanev 3.5 AAV and didn't piss off your captain to come in 2nd for Artemi Panarin.
I see that argument but they’re still strong on the blue line and strengthen a pretty underwhelming forward group. On paper i think they’re better.
To be fair I am not really upset but the thought of having aho got me going, it’s an ok move. Putting the ball in play but not trying for the winner(tennis reference). If carolina makes that mistake it will be a genius move and a homerun. But it has little to no chance to work, it’s laughable
Ya but it cost them one of their best defensemen. Is 37 year old Dan Hamuis going to pick up Subban's minutes?
