I actually think we're underrating him. He still lead the Preds in all of the advanced possession metrics. He had a down year from a scoring perspective but he finished top 3 in Norris voting the year before that.
Going to say a 20 year old with 4 games of NHL experience trying to step in and replace a perennial all star and 3 time Norris candidate might be tough.
He’s a high tier defensive prospect. They have 3 top pairing defensemen that I’m sure can cover. Point being they’re still strong at the blue line, still stronger than most teams. The addresses a huge without decimating another area
You would rather give a long term deal to deangelo? One of the most immature players in hockey who is just as likely to go on a coke bender and stop giving a shit about hockey as he is to actually be good and grow up? That’s ludicrous. Trouba is a really good player. I disagree but understand your apprehension at the Panarin dollars but your animosity toward having a legit number 1 D on what sounds like a very reasonable contract is bizarre.
This narrative about DeAngelo really needs to stop. We had no issues with him last year and he is a damn good player. If my choices are DeAngelo getting 5 yrs at 4-5 million per season or Trouba getting 7 years at 8 per season I give the money to DeAngelo. We are already badly overpaying Skjei on the backend and I don't want Trouba at what he's asking. Now especially with the Panarin signing we need to be careful with what contracts we are handing out. You would think that Trouba was the second coming of Brian Leetch the way that people are talking about him and all I see is a nice player that is going to receive a way bigger contract than he deserves. I would only give huge contracts to franchise number one centers and 50 goal scorers.
Corey hasn't had a healthy season in two plus years... I don't think you can go into the season with him and Colin alone
But lehner is a guy I would like to take as a discount. Which Chicago pretty much did because of the one year deal instead of 2
Isles bringing in Varlamov. Maybe they think that he will finally convince Ilya Sorokin to come to the NHL. Gonna miss Lehner.
I honestly think they wait on moving Kreider until the trade deadline. Moving Kreider right now would be a total puke job and the return would suck. So instead I think they move smaller pieces to try to make the cap work this year, increase Kreider’s production with good linemates this year, and move him at the deadline.
Yeah that’s a monster plus killjoy for us rn. Basically forces our hand on a Kreider trade unless we can get really crafty.
I would rather just get the first round pick now and hope that the team acquiring Kreider struggles vs taking a sure pick in the 20s at the deadline.
I hate the thought of moving Kreider but after the Lee contract we have to move him unless he is willing to take a deep discount. Maybe a team like Montreal would give us their first rounder for him.
I would rather get a first round pick now from a questionable team than wait till the deadline knowing the pick is late.
What does Toronto do with their D this year and beyond? Sandin is probably their best D prospect, but don't know if he's ready yet.
Gardiner is gone, Muzzin gets let go after next year and his hit goes toward resigning Barrie, probably. They could also let Ceci go to arb and he gets awarded enough that they can walk away.
