I mean, Embiid was right there. The guy sank a shot fading off the court over a 7’2” guy that was right up on him. Not sure what else you could have done except tackle him
Simmons to keep following the guy he was guarding rather than stop and watch the play... ya know, hustle? Don’t care if it would’ve mattered. They played lazy most of the game.
It’s difficult to have much sympathy for Embiid right now. Hopefully this is his kick in the ass to get serious about his conditioning and nutrition. Brown probably has to go if this team takes the next step next season (assuming they can bring back Butler and Harris).
someone has to be able to come up with something better than Embiid handing off to JJ coming around a screen every big possession. fucking play hasn’t worked in 3 years.
It's pretty lethal with a healthy Embiid. It's hard to argue they took a bigger leap this year than I anticipated. Run it back again and we are Portland next year, IMO.
JJ has to take a pay cut right? He did ok defensively this game against green but guy doesn’t rebound and loses balls often. A likable player, leader, and good shooter, but very limited and getting older.
JJ is gone. He could still be a max player because in the league someone will always pay for shooting and no one anywhere balked at the Sixers paying him. Only chance we have at retaining him is if for some reason Brooklyn or Knicks offer him next to nothing. I think we keep Butler and let Harris walk, which is the opposite of what I thought entering the playoffs. I do believe the team took a step in the right direction this playoffs. The one and two seeds remain with more complete teams and most importantly have the more dominant players. I think this team's ultimate success is going to be contingent upon Simmons. He absolutely needs to be the go to guy and he can. Last year he ripped off 16 or 17 in a row at the end of the season minus Embiid and when engaged in the playoffs he was dominant in stretches. He needs to flat out shoot more regardless of his FG%. BB has to take the heat on offense side of the ball in set situations. It's just non existent at this level of play.
Right, I said he could be if he wanted the money, I certainly do not think he will take another pay cut. I think he is location first which would mean Sixers, Nets, Knicks and possibly Celtics if he is dead set on keeping his family in Brooklyn. With all the big names moving around there's no telling what the hell will happen this off-season. Also down to the max deals we sign and how much into luxury ownership is willing to spend. I like the guy and would love to retain him I just don't think the odds are favorable for us at all.
Pretty hard to get in basketball shape with knee tendonitis. Just the reality of the situation. Have to pray its not a long term issue like Chase. He came into the season in phenomenal shape.
JJ is a fantastic specialist, but it’s hard to justify paying an aging player whose shot comes and goes a bunch of money. There are other guys in the league who can shoot mid 30s and play before defense and are younger. Parting makes sense for them and Redick.
Head scratching that Butler wants to go to Miami on a shit team but love grabbing Horford. Plus Horford, Harris, Josh Richardson Minus Butler, Reddick Im okay with that. Love Horford’s fit since he can play the stretch 4 role and also backup Embiid at C. Plus I’m a Gator fan and forever love Al
Not concerned at all. And he’s actually someone they can give the ball to in crunch time when Jo is being a bitch and Simmons is passive
“Joel Embiid has to get his fat butt in shape, and secondly, Ben Simmons got to work on his game,” Barkley said. “If those two things happen, the Philadelphia 76ers are the team to beat in the NBA." Chuck always keepin it 100
Good article in the Inquirer saying how the Sixers didn’t choose Harris over Butler - instead they chose Simmons over Butler since he’s due for a big extension and carrying 4 max contracts is not feasible
So how do we fill out this roster? Would like to add another shooter. Danny Green probably a pipe dream and wouldn’t be surprised to see him go wherever Kawhi lands. Wouldn’t mind bringing Ennis back. I love Marcus Morris but not sure there is a roll for him with Jo, Horford, O’Quinn, and Bolden on the roster. Avery Bradley? Down year but still young. Bring McConnell back? Major liability on D though. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope? Average shooter. Tyus Jones? Not much of a shooter but still a young backup point
Literally if Ben has any fucking semblance of an outside game that’s all we need. Even 10 feet and in.
They still have their Room MLE and TPE’s, Forbes is unsurprisingly not the best authority on the minutia of NBA transactions.
Are you sure? He signed for less than the non-bird exception. You can always bring back one of your own guys for 120% of their salary regardless of years of service.
Where? I don’t see anything come up when I google “mike Scott mid level exception.” I did see articles from Philly news outlets saying they signed Scott and still have it, however.
Derek Bodner (@DerekBodnerNBA) Tweeted: This deal starts at less than Scott's cap hold, so they'd actually gain a tiny bit of cap room if they made it their first official transaction on July 6. https://t.co/x58I5KadYj Edit: I see the later quote now, still doesn’t make any sense though I’d wait and see. Just scrolling through his timeline he appears to be kinda scatterbrained, keeps revising his cap calculations on the fly. Double edit: none of this is finalized until the moratorium is over and they proceed on order of operations, anyway, so I have a hard time thinking they’d do it in a way that gave them less room to work with.
Embiid Horford Harris Richardson Simmons Ennis Scott O'Quinn Smith Thybulle Maybe TJ returns after all as the backup at point? Badly need a ball handler when Simmons isn't on the court.
Kawhi to the Clips East looking like us and Milwaukee and then a bunch of average with everyone else. No excuses this year.
This is a scary starting 5...can't wait. I recently moved right down the street from the Barclay's Center so I look forward to going to the Sixers/Nets games the next few years.
Clippers depth chart is scary good PG Beverly Shamet and Sweet Lou can back it up with Kawhi and PG being the secondary facilitators since that isn't the strength of Shamet and Lou Small Wings Shamet Sweet Lou Thornwell Rodney McGruder can play there too even though he's listed as an SF Larger Wings Kawhi PG Harkless Wilson Chandler Posts Zubac Montrezl Harrell JaMychal Green Completely forgot they had Chandler and Green.
I really think Boston is a pretender. They’ve had our number in the past, but without Kyrie and now Horford on our side, they have zero star power and are still a collection of pretty good players. The NBA isn’t built to win with a roster of pretty good players. If Kemba is their “star” then they have no realistic title chance. Brooklyn is TBD. Next year they are no threat. We’ll find out when KD comes back to see if he can maintain his same form. Then they could be a problem
Thank the lord we didn’t get lebron. He’s ruined the lakers for at least a decade and they aren’t doing shit in the West. He’s a great player but just an abomination of a GM. And Boston is going to be legit if Kemba clicks. Kyrie loss is addition by subtraction IMO. Horford is a big loss but they might be better off in the long run without him. Spacing, minutes and potential in season pick ups. There going to be right there in the East again.
