When we traded for Marcus, he was considered the shitty Morris brother. Four years later, he's the good one.

That's a good sign, as long as everyone is on the same page with what his role is going to be. He's probably not someone who is going to be thrilled to be the 10th or 11th man. I hope he plays ahead of Maker at both the 4 and 5.

Always thought going back to college that Marcus was the better player.

Casey would get another coach of the year award if that happened.

East will be more improved and Blake won’t stay healthy.

5 first round picks, Reggie and Drummond.

We have enough to do it because Westbrook's contract is worse than Blake's. I bet we'd either have to move Kennard or at least 1 good first rounder, which is more than enough to make me say no. Sadly, I don't think we would do the same because Gores like big names.

If there’s any team that makes sense for Russ, it’s you guys given Tom Gores. He’s just gonna waste the money on bad moves anyways so I bet it’d be a net positive assuming you give up nothing.

It would be like the Red Wings' having Franzen and Zetterberg on those long term contracts, only not having a long term IR mechanism in place to deal with the contracts at the end, and also having both guys making roughly twice as much money.

Yeah. Depends what the other offers are. If he demands a trade now that’s a limited group of teams. And nothing beats the Houston offer.

Two things would amuse me about a Westbrook trade

    1. Any trade has to involve Reggie Jackson going back to OKC (even for a day), and the thought of Reggie being in a Russ trade is hilarious to me.

    2. The thought of Westbrook and Drummond getting into on court brawls over stealing defensive rebounds from each other while trying to pad stats would be comical.

James Edwards III is a Spartan but I appreciate the war he's waging with the fan base about Westbrook. Going to be awkward when we trade for him, though.

Reasonable minds disagree (the Ringer people clearly think Russ would actually get assets) but I’m with Zach Lowe; he’ll fetch nothing sans money relief. This just screams Tom Gores.

We gave up assets for Blake (Tobias and a 1st). Tom Gores will throw in a first rounder for Westbrook

I think Lowe hates watching Russ and thinks he's overrated and doesn't want to accept the fact that, in the NBA, name/brand/star power matter to owners. There aren't as many owners out there who would take that deal on as there once were for that sort of thing, but they still exist and Gores is one of them. Lowe thinks Westbrook and Wall are basically the same, which is ridiculous. At least Westbrook is still upright at the moment.

Sources confirmed an ESPN report that Presti, Westbrook and Westbrook’s longtime agent, Thad Foucher, are expected to talk in the coming days about how to best handle this unexpected situation. None of them knew until just a few days ago that Leonard had put on his recruiting hat and convinced George to seek a trade, and now they’re left to figure out the best path forward for all involved. And while the mountains of money owed to Westbrook are known to have scared quite a few general managers away, sources say that Detroit and Miami are very real possibilities as potential landing spots for the 30-year-old eight-time All-Star.

The Heat landed Jimmy Butler via a sign-and-trade with Philadelphia in free agency, and they could conceivably build a package around the likes of Goran Dragic (one year, $19.2 million remaining) and former Thunder guard Dion Waiters (two years, combined $24.7 million) to pair him with Westbrook. The Pistons’ scenario appears to be potentially trickier, with likely candidates to make the salaries match including big man Andre Drummond (two years, $55.8 million combined, including a player option in 2020-21), former Thunder guard Reggie Jackson (one year, $18 million) and Tony Snell (two years, $23.5 million combined, with a player option in 2020-21).

Is the assumption for Detroit's benefit that Presti is an idiot?

It’s that OKC is rebuilding and Russ has a worse contract than Blake.

No, because Presti is not an idiot. Other than never figuring out how to sign or trade for anyone who can shoot, Presti is one of the better GMs in the league and is very likely to get whatever the best possible return is for Westbrook.

Yeah, that was my point: he's not trading Westbrook to the Pistons for Drummond, Jackson and Snell.

The thinking is that he might have to take a deal like that to get financial freedom over the next two years as opposed to keeping Westbrook’s albatross contract for the next four. He likely isn’t getting many tangible assets back in a trade.

Would rather have Westbrook on this team and be decent than not and be decent/bad. There is no updside with the current roster anyway.

Pistons either need to make a move like this and make a run in a weak east or blow it up and get what you can for Andre and Blake. Don't see them doing the second, which I would probably prefer, so I think I would prefer this than continuing to finish 6-9th in the east and pick mid 1st round for the foreseeable future

This is kind of the camp I'm in at this point, but that's only if the Thunder are in a situation where they just need to dump him. I don't think it makes any sense for the Pistons to trade Kennard and picks for Westbrook. Not saying Kennard is a star or anything, but there's not really a point in trading for Westbrook if you have no shooters around him to spread the floor.

Summer League squad has been really good so far. They still don't have a ton of wings, and I wonder if Svi and/or Thomas earn PT behind Kennard and Snell.

Also, I kind of hope they put Brown in the G League for a while this year and let him work as a PG. I don't want to see him playing next to Rose or Reggie offensively. I'm guessing I'll be disappointed in what they end up doing, though.

What’s the alternative? Getting the 7 seed for the next 3 years , and giving Drummond the max? Because that’s gonna happen

That’s likely what happens but so far the FO has been pretty good imo. They aren’t doing long term deals. The test will obviously be what happens with Andre, but they are at least not stretching themselves beyond Blake’s last year.

I have no clue if they view Beasley as someone who will even make the team so I don't want to think it through too much, but if he's on the roster I'm starting to wonder if they're looking at Sekou as a 3 this year if he's going to get minutes. They've already got Morris and Thon likely ahead of him at the 4 at this point, and they claimed Christian Wood so I would assume they envision him being on the roster in some way.
