I'm looking at the 77" A9G. Is it worth the extra $2k over the Z9F? There's also an A1E that's the same price. We watch TV (lots of sports), a little Netflix, and I play PS4 on it. Just looking for the best 70"+ while staying under like $10k.
You are going big. I don't know the processors on those OLEDS very well, but I would imagine that is the main difference. If you can go 1 model year newer (F vs E) for the same price, then thats a no brainer, newer, longer support, etc. What is the source on your TV/sports? Cable box or something over the internet like Hulu/Sling/YouTubeTV?
Correct. No issues so far. We switched everything from Alexa to Google Assistant and found the latter to be a lot more intuitive and compatible. It helps that additional speakers and screens are a hell of a lot cheaper through Google’s platform. Google is obviously anti-Ring and Amazon, likewise, is anti-Nest so you gotta just pick a team if you want to go the DIY route. Also have the Nest doorbell and have enjoyed that. I set up a Ring doorbell for a few family members and find this to be on par with it. They’re just lacking the neighborhood watch aspect where Ring has the Neighbors app component.
DirecTV box. I'm pretty dumb when it comes to this kind of stuff. I know I should buy a lesser TV and get a new one every few years but I've just never been that guy. I bought a top of the line Sony about 8 years ago. Can't remember what it was called. Above the Bravia before they started calling them Masters. Anyways that thing has been bulletproof. It's been on probably 90% of the last 8 years. I never turn it off. Dogs need a TV on during the day and rarely remember to turn it off at night. It goes weeks without being turns off. *edit, it's an XBR
Believe it has to do with this: https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2019/05/nest-the-company-died-at-google-io-2019/
B and C are negligibly different and these types of TVs don’t change enough year to year to worry about which year model. Panel tech is the key and OLED is king.
i bought the 27inch 1440 a couple years ago for 350 iirc. really great purchase. i had one set up next to the asus rog model thats the same shit and always thought the picture on the dell was much better.
The main takeaway here is that nothing Nest-branded will be your hub anymore. By switching to Google Home Hub and Google Home Minis, I alleviated any concerns with this change, I’m fairly certain. I don’t need my Hue bulbs or Logitech Harmony Hub to be at the mercy of my thermostat. I have speakers that I can issue voice commands to for those products. There’s also a fairly extensive Google Home app on any mobile OS that you can force all of these things to talk to.
Agreed - I bet the ROG is a capable monitor for anything gaming you throw at it. I have 2x Dell 27 inch 1440P side by side. Left is 'gaming' with 144hz/freesync and right screen is the U2719DC. Wonderful having that much screen area in the same resolution. I had been 1440 + 1080 for years. I just gave my wife my 2x old Dell 1200Ps for her home office. She says it's better than her work issued equipment. Those things are from 2012 and I don't see them failing anytime soon.
Aside from the breach of the supposed "firewall" (who knows if it ever actually existed in the first place), this seems like much ado about nothing. Particularly from a new entrant into the market like myself.
There is no hold temperature setting. People post all sorts of workarounds like turning off the schedule, turning off eco mode etc etc. but it doesn’t work consistently. If I set my temp to 70, I can’t make it hold 70. It’s the most basic feature, and nest won’t add it. I also had major problems when it was cold outside and I’d put it on heat. You could hear the furnace turning on for a few minutes, clicking and resetting, then just blowing the fan. Some people online blame it on the cwire and an old furnance, but I have the c wire and my furnance works just fine with the ecobee3. I installed the ecobee3, which has a hold setting, and had no issues turning on the heat when I actually wanted it to turn on.
Carted an RTIC cooler recently for shits and giggles and RTIC's website had a tariff surcharge for the purchase. Real good idea those tariffs take that Chinese!
You can throw frozen chicken breasts in and 15 minutes later have fall apart chicken completely cooked and delicious. I use it all the time. Got this one for work because its a better rice cooker than any of the expensive ones out there.

Facebook Portal gonna be on sale on Prime Day, might get one. Fiance facetime/facebook chat with her mom and sister every weekend. Her sister has one and they're pretty cool.
Since everyone else is looking for a robot vacuum, any recs on one that works best for upstairs that won’t fall down the stairs?
Have to look in the description very closely. You’ll want an upstairs only model. If you get the downstairs model and use it upstairs it won’t turn out well.
I’m looking for a Nest Hello, indoor camera and outdoor camera. The Hello I see for $189 but that seems to be the same price everywhere.
