a.tramp I’m going to building a home down the road and wanted to ask a quick question as I do some research online. Do you need different equipment or extra equipment depending on the area you live? I notice you mentioned working on pools like are in service nearly the entire year. I live in south western Pennsylvania so we have a limited window for pool operation.
We had one lifeguard for 22 kids. I think it was appropriate. We are talking two and three year old kids here. I had nightmares leading up to the party. I definitely couldn’t watch them as I was hosting and grilling. My wife couldn’t because she was hosting and preparing food as well. I didn’t want to make it some random parent’s responsibility either. And God forbid something happens. Lifeguard charges $15/hr. Small price to pay to be able to sit back and relax at the party and have peace of mind.
I am not aware of any extra equipment that would be required but that does not mean there isn’t any. I think the biggest difference is going to be when you winterize your pool and what exactly that means for your area. I am guessing draining but idk.
So, is/was the heater set up to run manually now? Did you not use the computer to control it? We may need to parlay tomorrow.
I’ll post them very soon, I promise. Putting some finishing touches on the tv, speakers, sprinklers and landscaping.
I didn’t want to bother you because I know you are busy but the app will automatically heat the pool if I turn the spa heater on. Pool heater, spa heater doesn’t matter, it always heats the pool from the app. If I manually go over to the heater and click the spa logo the spa heats up like it’s supposed to. Not sure why the app doesn’t relay correctly.
Either this is completely nonsensical and makes no sense or you are leaving some steps out in the telling of what is happening to me. Their is no way to heat the spa from just pushing the spa button on the heater as the valves that put the system in spa mode are controlled by the computer and the heater can not send commands to the computer. We will get it sorted out this weekend hopefully via FaceTime. If not, I am Hill Country Bound in a couple weeks.
I turn it on spa mode from the app: Actuators turn appropriately. Next I hit “Heater” on the bottom right and it fires up the heater but it starts heating the pool instead of the spa. It’s weird.
So if the actuators are moving “appropriately” then all the water circulation will be contained to the spa. There is not a way the pool would be heated as there would be no circulation there. Something else is aloof and we shall figure it out lechnerd.
Ok I owe you and L a nice meal so hopefully you make your way down here. Maybe I’ll see if you’re free this weekend to FaceTime?
I can’t even begin to describe the feeling of jumping into a 97 degree pool when you are thinking it’s going to be cool and refreshing. My immediate thought was that I had jumped into a portal that went straight to hell. And the fact that not a single party goer thought it was strange was even more baffling.
You just big-dicked every pool owner in this thread fwiw. That was probably not your intention but it is absolutely the result.
It's my order confirmation for a.tramp's pool chiller. I've been wanting one and his recommendation sealed the deal.
I need to creep on my buddies FB posts and see if I can find the pic when he got drunk and accidentally turned his pool heater on during a winter storm. He woke up and it was sleeting with steam coming off the pool. That was an expensive gas bill.
lechnerd, if you'll send me your hot water, I can send you my cold. Or we could both get divorced which would undoubtedly be cheaper.
I give you a lot of shit so just wanted to point out that this was a really great idea and I'm glad you did it.
There is a lot more I want to post, especially a.tramp ’s handiwork, but here is what I have for now: I’ll try and take some more this weekend.
Alright stringmusic24 , this is what you need to set out to do... Call me when you’ve glued your hand to your forehead.
The goal is to streamline the plumbing as much as possible. The less 90s used the better and using 2x45s where possible in place of 90s. That will not happen on the suction manifold build so do not even try. Always try to leave at least 4” of pipe in between pvc connectors where possible (once again, will not happen on the suction manifold build) as it will make inevitable repairs down the road much easier.
Q: How weirded out will your wife be when I show up to watch an A&M game on your outdoor TV from your pool one weekend this fall? A: Probably less weirded out than when you have HER sleep in the guest room that evening.
She won’t be weirded out at all. “Babe this is my friend from the internet, his name is buy-don’t-lease” FYI that TV is on a swivel so we can watch high level SEC football (Texas A&M) in the pool, hot tub or at the table...all with great viewing angles.
I think he is talking about the way the pool looks to have a little slice sticking out to the bottom right of your picture, where I think there are steps that is blocking the view of the pool and making it look funny
The spa is drastically raised, due to where the pic is taken, it only looks like a little slice. Angles and such.
