very nice. flying to hawaii next month and there will be plenty of layover time. Will I be able to use my pass for each of my layovers or can you only use the credit once per day?

I've used it multiple times. Some have restrictions on number of times you can use it in the same lounge in one day

you mean ordering from a restaurant, closing your tab at under $28 and then opening another tab immediately? or am I overthinking your post?

You're overthinking it I mean that you can only use it at timberline once every 24 hours

thought about doing amex platinum for that reason, but I fly out of both MIA and FTL pretty evenly and the overall benefits from CSR swung the decision for me.

Anyone got a quick refresher for me - what benefits do I still get and which ones do I lose booking a Hilton hotel through hotels.com

Got a $50 off cert for hotels.com that I'd love to use, but don't want to lose out on all my bonus points/benefits if I'd lose out on by not booking direct

Can’t you book via hotels and then show Hilton and they’ll match?

They’re not going to match a $50 off deal I wouldn’t think. Most of they time you basically stay like you aren’t a rewards member if you use a third party booking site. IE, don’t get points, upgrades, free breakfast, etc. Honestly I’m a high Marriott guy and if I travel on my own dime I play the Priceline game. The $$ difference is pretty significant sometimes and worth staying in a basic room at whatever nice hotel has a deal and not getting the mostly worthless points and mostly fake benefits of hotel programs.

Amex Plat holders: Since its July 1st - the $50 credit at Saks just reset. I was also targeted for $10 off $75+ department stores websites, including Saks, so the offer got a bit better. Could be as good as $60 off $75.

The biggest one is that they'll walk you if they're full

Other than that, depending on the hotel: points, breakfast, wifi, no upgrades are the biggest

I’ve never had that happen and I think Priceline guarantees a room if they sell it.

Say you were going to buy those things. Most of the time upgrades are rare unless you push and aren’t much value on my own. Breakfast is $10-15 and worth an apple and a breakfast bar to me on my own. WiFi I can use my work phone. And points are maybe $10 of actual value on the high side. So maybe $20-25 of value if you have status at that particular chain. And for me Marriott’s over price their extra value into their market pricing. Not worth it a lot of time on my own dime.
If I’m traveling with the family I get the value out of the program. Especially the concierge lounge.

For me, for the hotel stay that started this discussion, I'm getting 44 points per dollar at Hilton, so the stay is worth about $100-$150, depending on where I ended up using them. So assuming I lose out on those points by not booking direct, then it's not worth the $50 off certificate. Plus free breakfast, potential room upgrade (since it's middle of the week, I'm hoping there's availability), etc. all make it worth booking through Hilton if that's the only way to get those benefits

Ok. So I have a possible 6-10K expense in the near future.

I have CSR that I got ~6 months ago for my personal account. (Downgraded CSP to Freedom)
I also opened a business account for my business 6 months ago. I got the Chase Ink Unlimited around the same time (had a bonus and was free...idk).

I have been getting CIP offers in the mail. My plan is to apply for 1. Then refer myself to get a second one (right away? 30 days later? not possible?) Any tips? Thanks team.

but i believe the best course of action after getting your first is to refer yourself at some point in the future and not right away. i'm about to refer myself for CIP2 and it's been about 3 months since I got the first one. I believe LSU90 has had good success with multiple CIPs and he can provide additional/better guidance than i can

Unless those mailers are for more points than what our referrals are, don’t use them. Apply with us.

Then yes, you can refer yourself. I’m not sure on the time frame. Definitely 30 days min.

I have 2 CIPs & about to refer myself for my 3rd - my first 2 were about 4-5 months apart, & it’ll be about 5-6 months of time between the 2nd one & the 3rd one that I’m gonna apply for soon

Yeah, in your case I would just keep getting CIP's until they won't let you anymore. Its 80k+20k referral after the 1st one. No need to vary any of your information. Use your SSN and your full name for everything. I have gotten 4 CIP's and my wife has 3 CIP's. The key to keep getting approved is 1) keep your total chase credit limits to income ratio below 50% and 2) keep your application velocity reasonable (1 card every 3ish months). Read any of my previous posts in this thread for more detailed information or if you have a super-specific question shoot me a personal message.

Also, lax-joe's link will give you a virus and aids for sure. You should use my referral. It comes with tits and cocaine: Earn 80,00 bonus points with Chase Ink Business Preferred. I can be rewarded, learn more. https://www.referyourchasecard.com/21a/7XSW6VNRJM

When I'm requesting for credit line increases and it asks for my yearly income, rent/mortgage payment, and how much I intend to spend on the card per month, should I be making those numbers bigger or smaller? I might make 100k, I might make 120k, I might spend $2000 on the card, I might spend $4000? And how much do these numbers affect their decision?

They're going to cap your total credit line at a percentage of your income, so the higher your reported income, the more room they have to increase your credit limit.

Not sure how the expected spend factors in.

not gonna try it, but could this be abused? Don't know if recipients get charged another fee as well. If not (big if) then one could print money/points.

Just for you: 1.5% Plastiq fee on any three payments

That's an insane amount of CIPs. I have 3 Chase cards. 2 business and 1 sapphire reserve. And I've gotten that message every time.

    https://10xtravel.com/the-dreaded-chase-shutdown-how-it-happened-to-me-and-how-to-avoid-it/

    • Don’t be reckless. Use the team at 10xTravel to discuss a strategy and plan that will work for you.
    • Remember this is a marathon, not a sprint. Strategy is key. Yes, things are constantly changing but your plans can change as well and the biggest key is having a plan.
    • Avoid missed payments, stopped payments, anything out of the ordinary.
    • Pay attention to the number of Chase cards you have. While I don’t think there’s a hard limit, one of the reasons given for closing my accounts was that I was “currently over limit on Chase accounts”
    • Don’t apply for a bunch of cards every 30-45 days. This flags you as a higher risk and, while you may get away with it for a while, you won’t get away with it forever.
    • Don’t stockpile your credit line. Because your score is determined in part by utilization percentage not available credit don’t be afraid to call and lower your credit limits. I never did this so I became a bigger risk to Chase since my available credit was more than double my annual salary.
    • Lastly, if you do get shut down. Don’t think your life is over. We’ve helped several people in the 10xTravel Insider’s Facebook group through the process of appealing a shutdown. Even if you end up in my situation and aren’t able to get the decision reversed, there’s life after Chase.

My personal opinion is that better scrutiny/fewer approvals on applications is right around the corner and that that reports of clawing back bonuses from serial applicants will hit sometime in the next 6-18 months.

I applied for a common application angle (electronics reseller on eBay - which I do have some volume of) and was denied for 5/24. In the process of buying a home, but will roll the dice in late 2019 or early 2020 again on a CIP

Had planned on staying at the Holston House in Nashville thinking that it would be category four hotel with Hyatt but nope it's a five. The hotel we stayed at in Boston, the Hyatt Regency which was a four last year is now a five also..

This sucks because now can't use free anniversary night or my free night for spending $15k in a year because those are only for categories 1-4. Any advice on what to do here or am I just screwed and have to transfer Chase UR points to Hyatt to cover the 38k shortage for three nights that I need for our anniversary in October?

Yeah the Hyatt Regency in Boston last year was awesome like I said. It was a category four in October of last year. I looked today and it's a five. They rearranged their categories I think. I only travel 1-2 times a year for special occasions with my wife so I'm not really knowledgeable about this stuff like some of y'all. I was just surprised both of those hotels are fives. Now I have two free nights and don't have a reason to use them right now. Gotta burn up points I guess. I'll call and see what I can do though. Couldn't hurt.
