T2 headed into the final round of the 2008 PGA - shoots 81 T1 headed into the final round of the 2017 Players - shoots 84 3 headed into the final round of the 2019 Open - shoots 87 Maybe he'll shoot a 90 next time he's in contention at a big event.
Its exaggerated by the broadcast rights holder Everything about that tournament is manufactured, phony.
The players themselves speak highly of it as does the Tour. It is artificially pumped up a bit but "everything is manufactured and phony" is not accurate.
Y'all say what you want about the WGC, but 46 of top 50 in the world rankings are playing this week. Another great weekend of golf for me to watch.
St. Jude’s a great thing. I spent a lot of time in Memphis for work last year while it is a shitty city it does have some good parts Would have to pay me a lot to live there though.
The FedEx St Jude's has been a tournament long before it became a WGC this year. Not a single person would ever say that a tournament that benefits St Jude's is a bad idea; the fact that it's a WGC, a week after a major (that is a 7ish hour flight), and the second one in the US is what is dumb. One idea, these guys are all already in Europe, why not host a WGC somewhere over there if it has to be this week? I realize this is not the argument you were making, but it was rampant on twitter after something Kyle Porter said (I missed his tweet but the response seemed to be people saying the tournament is good because it's a St Jude's benefit)
Randy working in the "please subscribe to GolfPass" might be the hardest I've laughed during one of their pods that I can think of
I just started watching/listening to EAL last week. (Thanks YouTube recommendation algorithm.) His content is amazing imo. Is he a shitbag or something? I don’t think I could take that about my current golf crush.
I'll walk my take back a little of having the WGC over in Europe as now that I look at the schedule I realize there's really not a good time for it. The week after a major is pretty lousy but if they did it in two weeks that's right before the playoffs start and everyone knows FedEx isn't going to risk jeopardizing its playoffs. Although, with the schedule revamp, they could pretty easily look at moving the WGCs to accommodate how they need to
I think his stuff is awesome. He’s been making a movie called “be the ball” forever. Hoping it actually comes out one day.
The other issue is WGC events require a massive title sponsor. There are only a handful of companies that can foot the bill. You are going to have a hard time getting an American sponsor to go over there and I honestly don’t know how many European companies would be able and willing. If you got the sponsor I bet they would find a way to get an event over there. There is a reason they are playing in Memphis. It isn’t because of St. Jude... Fedex is the title sponsor.
The actual content is pretty awesome, but I just have a hard time liking him. Comes off super hipster to me, is regularly 2 hours late to tee times and expects the courses to not care, and pretends he has a disability so his dog can go everywhere with him. When he goes to a course I’ve never seen, I immediately tune into his content. Otherwise, I can’t stand him.
For all I know, I’m being incredibly insensitive and he has some sort of prescribed ailment. But he’s been strongly accused of it by golf twitter and hasn’t pushed back on it any, so the common belief is that it’s BS at this point - fair or not.
All of this is understandable. He comes off as a flippant, spoiled dbag (and I get the feeling it’s even worse in real life), but that content tho. It’s just that perfect mix of golf porn, feels, technical, etc.
I also recently came across EAL. Been making my way through his YouTube channel and follow him on instagram. I can see people not liking him but the content is great and I appreciate his approach to golf (other than being late for tee times). While I’m constantly trying to improve, golf to me is a lot more than just posting a great score. Enjoying the experiences, celebrating the good shots and not harping on the bad ones. Haven’t heard about the faking a disability thing so that’s shitty if true. Snowball is awesome tho
I still watch most of his content and enjoy it a ton, especially when he’s overseas. I just wish it was a different person doing it. But the content he’s done to showcase the courses in the British Isles (same with NLU) is the type of content that we need to see more of around the world.
Lowry has been in a pub 5 minutes up the road from me all day on the absolute piss. Not sure he’s showered yet.
In the market for a new pair of comfortable golf shoes as some mice or chipmunks or something got into my garage and decided to devour my old. Any recommendations?
I’ve had some FJ DNAs for a while now and I love them. I walk almost every time I play and never have any issues. I also saw that last year’s version of the FJ Pro Spikeless just dropped to $100 and I almost went with those over the DNAs, I’d guess they’re just as comfortable
Interesting perspective here https://thefriedegg.com/equipment-testing-golf/ I'm not going to pretend to understand all the factors that can go into making a clubhead non-conforming, but it does seem like the Tour implementing some sort of regular testing would make sense
