Oh, me too. It was definitely good, a "mediocre" Dresden book is still a 10/10 when it comes to entertainment. But considering the scope and scale presented in Changes, it was inevitable to be a let down. Spoiler Basically, I found myself wanting to plow through the whole Dresden being dead storyline. It was cool seeing the spirit world, but I only found myself truly interested when the characters we all love were re-introduced. It was definitely a "slog" to get to that point for me
Signs of life? As of May 29th, 2019, the current draft of the novel is up to chapter 62. Progress! We don’t have a release date yet, but we’ll update this page, send out a newsletter, and tweet it to the high heavens the moment we do!
I'd embed it, but for some reason I keep getting an error message when I try to do so. Copy and pasting from Butcher's Twitter: "Finished the finale of Peace Talks this morning. Just the wrap-up chapter to go. :) News regarding pub dates as I get it."
I still can't embed tweets, but Butcher just tweeted out: ✔@longshotauthor T H E E N D I love typing that.
So how long will it take to get it published? I assume that means he's done writing, but it still needs to be submitted to an editor and such.
That’s good news, now get to work on the next if you really did plan on giving us like 10 more of these
Pretty sure Sanderson is notorious for delivering far-along drafts though. Probably depends on the writer and how rough their rough drafts are. If the editing process is short then that would speed things up.
SOUND THE ALARM. WE HAVE A RELEASE DATE. "Ace Books has announced that the next installment in Jim Butcher’s #1 New York Times bestselling Dresden Files series, Peace Talks, will publish on July 14, 2020 from Ace Books in the US and Orbit in the UK. The book will be the first new Dresden Files novel since 2014’s Skin Game." Link
Next book is up for preorder on audible. Not sure if that's an update, just saw today while browsing.
So if I’m not mistaken, we’re getting two books this year? Peace Talks and Battle Ground in September? Jim, you sneaky bastard
took a break with something different so I don't get worn out on the series, will be starting book 3 once I'm done
It just seems weird to me to put out a book 3 months after your last one unless they were written at the same time and the first did have some sort of cliffhanger
I'd almost rather they waited a year between them, cuz I think he's doing at least one Cinder Spire book after these two so we're probably looking at 3-4 years until the next one
I read he wrote Peace Talks and it grew pretty big, so he rewrote it to where it was two books instead.
It has been five years since the last book. Definitely seems like he split the next one into two separate novels.
IIRC he got divorced, moved, got remarried and I think his dog died so he wasn't writing much for several years
On the other hand, hasn't he always said he's planning to end the Dresden Files after 20 books or so? Maybe he should stretch it out a little...
In spoilers. Put how far into the book you are. That’s what we’ve done for all the book club books and it works well.
Gonna have to carve out some time to listen to this on audiobook. Not having a commute at the moment is severely impacting my Audible consumption.
Spoiler: Just finished it Should have seen the cliffhanger coming, what with the next book being released in September.
Spoiler: Also just finished I felt the same way; it felt like I was halfway thru the book when it ended. Makes sense since it was originally one massive book but still annoying until September
