recently cut the cord and signed up for YTTV. Picture has been great so far, although there were a couple times where after switching channels the sound would cut in and out for about 15 seconds before working properly. Hoping that won't be a regular occurrence.

We have a Chromecast which ties in well with our Google Home, Nest Hub, and Google Minis.

While it is nice saying, "Hey Google, watch ESPN", I'm thinking Roku might be the better experience for YTTV. Not really a fan of using my iPhone as a remote all the time.

Maybe I'm missing something (though the only hardware I can tell that you have is Chromecast), but YTTV should have built in apps for almost every hardware platform...Apple TV, Xbox, Roku, Android TV, "Chromecast Built in" aka Vizio.

I'm not sure about LG & Samsung smart tv platforms.

our Samsung smart TV is from 2016 so it has HBO Now, Hulu, Amazon Prime, and Netflix built-in but no YTTV. Got the Chromecast back when we started buying Google home and other minis.

Our basement TV is connected to XB1 so no issues there.

YTTV has worked flawlessly w/ Roku for me for over a year now. I give a slight edge to Xbox for YTTV because it shows live previews of channels (before you tune in to them) and the Roku doesn’t.

I am surprised Roku doesn't offer the live preview. Roku has consistently outperformed my Sony Android OS in almost every single way.

So far it’s been tough getting adjusted to Vue on the Roku. Switched it over to a Firestick and it’s easier to navigate.

Roku's lower end has cheaper hardware, so I'm not surprised to hear that some features are omitted there.

THF The 2019 Sony TVs finally use a viable processor and the OS is zippy.

That doesn't help the last couple years, which were on a 2016 processor and very slow. I have added boxes (Apple, Android TV, xbox) to my 2015 Sony TV because it chugs on its own.

Thinking of ditching DirecTV for PS Vue. I did the trial over the weekend but have a couple issues.

    1. Picture when casting from phone or iPad to Chromecast is great. When using PS4, it's in like standard def. It's terrible.

    2. But when I'm casting to a, I get no rewind button on live TV.

So I feel like I'm picking great picture with no rewind or rewind with terrible picture. Anyone have a solution for either of these?

I liked the channels better on PS Vue. Can't remember what it has that YTTV didn't but it was something.

Guessing NFLN/RedZone. That's the only thing that I miss once in a while. Assuming and hoping YTTV gets that negotiated before the season. They still more than make up for it with a superior user experience, unlimited DVR, etc. in my opinion.

Yea that may have been it. Overall PS Vue has been great, it's just that rewind deal that's driving me nuts. I'd say 80% of the time we passively watch something and have a conversation going and then something catches my attention so I want to rewind and watch it. I haven't seen a way to do that. I can pause, but not rewind.

Yeah that seems odd but now that I think about it, I know that a buddy of mine and his wife have Vue and she was bitching about what you are. I think the reasoning she found out was that Vue touts a DVR but in reality all they do is save the On Demand version of whatever show you are "DVR"ing. Again...iirc thats what she was complaining about and said. That would be a deal breaker for me.

Let me ask this...can you "DVR" a live sporting event? If so, can you rewind that while watching live?

Have you tried hitting back on like the arrow buttons. I know on YTTV I can hit the back button a few times and it will skip back like 10 seconds at a time.

Edit. Actually try and use the + or - buttons if you can.

There are no arrow buttons. There's one button, play/pause. It works when just watching on a phone or ipad. They go away when I cast to tv.

Ok so I've figured out I can fast forward on DVR stuff but not live stuff. This shit sucks. And even when I can fast forward, it's either 10 seconds at a time or just moving the slider forward to where I think the commercials are over. I'm used to be able to hit fast forward and still seeing the show in fast speed so I know when to stop. Does YTTV allow this?

YTTV does it in a different way than what you're describing but in a way you wouldn't complain about. When you ff or rewind they have a smaller screen that shows exactly where you will land if you stop there. Sort of like a picture-in-picture deal. It's easy and efficient.

I have a TCL 6 series 65" and those have the Roku interface pre installed on them so thats the main way I use it. My second tv is an older non Smart tv Samsung. I purchased the Roku Ultra for that. I've also casted it though via Chromecast and that works fine. I much prefer Roku though because I like having a remote separate from my phone like you have to do with Chromecasting.

Sorry I meant the remote for the device streaming, the TV remote or Roku remote. Whatever you use to navigate around the application. I use my tv remote so that was what I was thinking.

From what I've had in the past, one has it all. I've had 4 or 5 at this point. I just use it for sports. Could have used it for TV but it's a bit of a pain in the ass IMO. Also as you probably already know, one day it's just gone, which sucks, but getting any live sporting event is worth it for me while it lasts.

Has Locast app been mentioned? Just heard about it yesterday. I don’t really have a need for it but tested it out and it seems to work well.

It’s a free app that gives you local channels. Basically if you had a streamed antenna.

Only catch is it’s only has 10 of the major cities. I’m sure it will expand over time.

Anyway thought I’d give the heads up

Damn. I've tried a couple different antenna's, and neither of them can get FOX. Think I'm too far out of the city. Next plan is to try a long range indoor one (50-60 mile range).
