I stayed like 2 blocks south of there on St Denis and its a solid location. Youre close to the Mile End + Little Italy. There or anything further north on St Denis or St Laurent should be money in the Plateau-Mont Royal district. The other area (well there are a ton of badass neighborhoods) youre gonna want to eat/drink in is Little Burgundy + Saint Henri (which knowing you Im sure you have covered); but I doubt they have the hotel inventory over there.
thanks and yeah clearly have my Liverpool House reservation and on the wait list at Joe Beef (will dump Liverpool if we get Joe Beef, which I kind of doubt it'll open up)
Coming up for a long weekend with my parents. So not looking to stay in a huge party area, but still want to be near plenty of restaurants, sights, etc. is Griffentown/Little Burgundy a good place for an AirBnB Champ?
It is a good place to stay, I know nothing about aibrnb scene. Go at les enfants terribles with your parents for brunch, you won’t regret it. Also enjoyed barrocco on st-paul but that was diner I go to the alt hotel near the old port and there is never any issue with too much partying. It’s a nice spot with a ton of good restaurants. I don’t think you can regret going there. Another top restaurant if you are looking for something incredible during your trip. Club chasse et pêche.
And If you are willing to cook and go the Airbnb route, marche Atwater is not that far from Griffintown. You could find some incredible meat, cheese, veggies..etc and bring them back to cook yourself a solid meal.
Champ input will still be needed since he knows lot more than me but I love that area, Griffintown and little Bourgogne is how you live mtl imo
Yeah, that would be nice. Plenty to do, still quiet and very central. Around Beaubien/Rosemont metro would be great also.
Please no Rnfants Terribles. It’s a chain, expensive for nothing, it’s a tourist trap with shit food and service.
Beaubien//Little Italy is great. Bunch of restaurants, plenty to do, Jean-Talon market, central, not touristy. But you can’t go wrong with Griffintown either. Griffintown is gonna feel slightly more touristy/business, but it’s a great area. By the way, Montreal is very safe/quiet so as long as you’re near a metro station, there’s not much to worry about. I’d just stay west of Papineau on the green line, between Jean-Talon and St-Henri on the orange line and you should be good to go.
Champ McGill area is solid, right? Will it be a huge party area right around there? Over off Prince Arthur St W and Aylmer
McGill “Ghetto”. Gonna be quiet during the summer and location is great, right next no downtown, close to Plateau. Gonna have to walk a bit for the metro, but plenty of buses nearby.
I'll be here for a bachelor party the weekend after next. We are in an airbnb Thursday - Sunday (just south of the gayborhood near university of quebec montreal) but me and the best man will be staying at the Hotel Place D'Armes on Wednesday night. Most of the guys get in on Thursday afternoon so I think me and another friend will hike up (walk) Mont Royal on Thursday morning...from the reviews I've read it shouldn't take an hour and the view is worth it. Let me know if we should spend time elsewhere.. We have a reservation for Joe Beef on Thursday night, and a reservation for Au Pied de Cochon on Saturday. I have compiled and posted a lot of various input from this thread and from friends. Any further guidance would be appreciated (in addition to the obvious strip clubs, etc.) All of the groomsmen are 30 or under; I'm sure we will stick out like clowns being the SEC fratzy types. Champ If you'd like a bunch of business (I think I recall you saying you are in the hospitality industry), let me know where I should be steering the ship. Places to eat: Sitdown/formal: Au pied de cochon Poutine: La Banquise Poutine: Chez Claudette Poutine/Diner: AA Diner in St – Henri Sitdown/formal: Provisions 1268 in Outremont Fast Food: Ma Poule Mouillée (Portuguese Grill) Sitdown/casual: Chalet Bar-B-Q Sitdown/casual: Joe beef Sitdown/casual: Grumman 78 Club / Bars: Tier A: Gentelmans: Wandas Gentlemans: Chez Paris Bar: Rooftop Pool at Hotel Bonaventure Bar: Liverpool House Bar: Le Belmont Bar: Benelux Club: Le Rouge Other: Gentlemans: Pit Caribou Gentlemans: Castor Gentlemans: Abri de la Tempete Club: New City Gas Club: Salon Daome
That’s a great itinerary. You guys should have a good time. Few things - -Liverpool House isn’t a bar, it’s Joe Beef’s sister restaurant. -Belmont is more of a club/live venue featuring hip-hop or house guests. -Benelux and Pit Caribou are great microbreweries (Benelux being next to the mountain so could be nice in the afternoon or happy hour, while Pit is next to La Banquise, but most definitely not a Gentleman’s club). -Castor is a microbrewery but they don’t have a bar in Montreal. Abri de la Tempete does have a bar, though it’s located on Magdalena Islands, about a 20 hours drive from Montreal. -Saw chez Paris among the Gentleman’s clubs. It’s chez Paree. Somewhat important ‘cause there is also this shit place called Café de Paris. -Also, Joe Beef’s vibe is somewhat casual, but is still high end and considered among North America’s best restaurants. If you’re gonna be at PDC on Thursday, you might want to stay in the area (Daome or Rouge for clubs, maybe somewhere like Darling for beers after, or just walk on Mont-Royal. Tens of bars everywhere). Or depending on the time of the reservation, PdC is next door to Parc Lafontaine (Montreal’s Central Park, kind of). Grab a few beers, walk a bit and chill before going out, you’ll need it after a meal at PdC. This is when you should hit Chez Claudette or La Banquise. If you can’t make it chez Claudette, you might want to go for breakfast the day after. Either there or La Binerie, both places are incredible and offer Quebecois food that you don’t see too often anymore. Text me or call me, I’ll steer you in the right direction on what to order. For Saturday, if you’re at Joe Beef, stay in the Southwest. You can move to Burgundy Lion for scotch, Loic if you’re looking for a wine bar, or La Drinkerie or strippers (Wanda’s, chez Paree) as they’re a very short drive of taxi north. You can even walk. It’s about 20 minutes. New City Gas is also not too far away if that’s more the direction you want your night to take. If you stay in the Southwest, that’s when you go to AA after the bar. André the owner is incredible, small old guy with the mustache.
And yeah, I’m in the industry, so if you’re looking for a place to go on Friday, give me a shout. It’s on Canada’s top 100 list, located in Little Italy. Just not gonna post the name on the public board. Don’t hesitate if you need anything, just go through PMs and I’ll give you my cell # if you need anything once in town.
Poule Mouillée is right next to the Lafontaine Park, also,so you can take your food to go, grab beers and eat at the park (legal in Montreal). Provisions also opened a butcher shop/wine bar that’s a bit more casual so you can stop by there after Mount-Royal also, it’s not too far off.
If you want to stay a bit more chill on Friday after the first big night, might be worth it to go to Plaza St-Hubert grab some weed at SQDC, and visit Jean-Talon market/Little Italy. You can grab your hangover fare at Chez Tousignant, or walk to parc Jarry to hang out (parks are a big thing here), it’s a happening in the summer, as they really fill up), or just go south towards Mile-End if you want to do some tourism.
You’ll also be staying right next to Chinatown, so you can always just walk and grab some food there. Plenty of great restaurants and a lot of bars nearby.
Hey Champ ... coming in town for an event the weekend of Sept 20 ...explore during the day, dinner/casual drinks at night. What's the best are to stay in? Airbnb map for reference that I'm currently looking...just a general recommendation on keywords would be good. Old Montreal? Chinatown?
Plateau, Mile-End or Little Italy if you want to live and feel a real neighborhood while still being pretty close to everything. St-Henri too. Otherwise, Griffintown, Downtown, Old Port if you want to be very central, close to every tourist thing (and tho it's the touristy area, Old Port is gorgeous and we all go a few times a year). Basically, anywhere from St-Denis to Atwater south of Rachel/Sherbrooke if you want the downtown life, or anywhere around the orange line from Berri-UQAM to Jean-Talon or from Atwater to St-Henri if you want to be more in a residential neighboorhood while still being close to everything.
How much time do you have for the full trip? You could do Ottawa in a day or two unless you love museums. I don’t mind giving the personal tour
How many in Quebec City? Where do you start where do you finish? And when exactly? My first recommendation would be to focus on mtl, a couple of days in Quebec City can be enough. You can always come back for another day or two later if you really enjoyed It.
Was thinking flying into Montreal (due to ease and cost) driving over to Ottawa 2 days then Quebec for 2-3 days then back to Montreal for 3 days and flight out. Also considering a night in the Eastern Townships if you guys think that could be worth it. Very early stages of planning right now.
With that much driving i would already advise you to cut down to 2 days in Quebec City and finish your vacation with a nice 4 days in mtl before heading out. Although driving in mtl for 4 days when in full construction mode might be worse than driving up here from Atlanta. Kidding... a little. I can help you with restaurants and activities when you know more about your itinerary. Hotels I am not well versed, maybe Champ can help if he knows some people around here but not sure.
Saw you like that post Keef So many of those places have closed...if you have any questions regarding neighborhoods, don’t hesitate and I’ll give you some new recs.
Eastern townships are worth it, but you’d need more time IMO. 2 days in Ottawa, 1 night (1.5 day in QC), as pretty much just the old town is worth visiting, I think (correct me if I’m wrong IHHH). 3 days in Montreal is what I’d do. Montreal isn’t that big on attractions, it’s more of a “vibe” city where you walk around neighborhoods and discover town. It’s pretty cool how every quartier has its very own personality, and it’s nice to immerse.
I agree with Champ , if you stay longer I can find you some interesting stuff to do but you will need to drive out of the city a little. You can walk the old city/petit champlain in a day in a half rather easily.
Hi guys I’m going with wife late March driving from NYC Wednesday Staying in MTL Wednesday to Saturday Snowboarding Mont Tremblant Saturday Driving back Sunday Amex concierge hooked us up with the Joe Beef res Booked Liverpool House Also booked Cabane d’a Cote going to the scandinave hot springs in Mont Tremblant hyped, open to any suggestions
Any good recommendations for a dinner party for a bachelor party? Will be there first weekend May Champ
Something nice. The group likes to do Michelin star restaurants on road trips. Not sure if you have anything like that?
Elena, Marconi, Alma, Maison Publique, Helicoptère would be good bets. Montreal Plaza if you’re willing to spend a little bit more is hard to top for bachelors.
