I usually buy mine from a bird store in town, but you can pick it up from the hardware store, too. I like going in and looking at all the specialty bird stuff at the local store.
Put out hummingbird feeders today. Little late I know. Pro tip is to put some marine grease or other oil based goo on the hook you hang them from to keep ants from getting to them.
Few more shots from some field surveys this week. Less ducks and more other birds because ducks get old. Saw a pintail brood out, but couldn't get a great picture of em. I really like the Wilson's Snipe photos, was shocked that little dude stood there on the fence post while I slammed on the breaks after I saw him and backed up to get a good angle. The Upland Sandpiper in a wetland was a nice surprise.
Is that a house wren is the second picture? I got one nesting in my backyard and the son of a gun sings all day. Love it. Pretty unremarkable bird to the naked eye, but the mottled, spotted look on it's wings and tail feathers is pretty cool.
Please excuse the poor quality of the pictures, but I was trying not to disturb it. 2 of these have built a nest in my front porch area. Have little to no knowledge about birds so was wondering if anyone knew what kind these might be? Spoilered for size Spoiler: Birdies

Had two barred owls in the yard yesterday evening. They flew into a big water oak at dusk and all the other birds immediately let them know they didn’t approve. Tried snapping a few pics, but the humidity neutered my camera. I’ve also had a male song sparrow and gray catbird set up shop and really start singing in the past week or so.
Saw a nice big red tail hawk fly across our field the other day. Going back and forth through the Mississippi Delta recently seen a few ducks that I'm unsure of their name. I guess they could be wood ducks, they were mostly brown with real bright orange beaks. But I didn't notice green heads. Could have just missed it though, just seen them in fields driving by. Seen gobs of red wing black birds too.
Could be yes. But I just checked Audubon and that is pretty far out of their range, though it did say their range was growing.
Definitely between Pine Bluff and Vicksburg (crossing at Greenville) so yeah must have been what I was seeing
We've had cardinals around for years, but now we had a cardinal nest in a hanging plant under my 2nd floor patio. 4 babies hatched I am kinda surprised to see the male seems to be the main bird bringing food in I have rarely seen the female around lately
My dad had Audubon guides since I was a kid for everything. Bird, reptiles, fish, trees, and mushrooms I think. I'd have to go check now. :( But now I know so thanks for the info.
Their field guides are good. Cornell lab is just my favorite online resource, if I'm checking ids for work or something I'll go to them
I damn near drowned 3 house sparrow fledglings last week watering my hanging pots. 1 of them actually jumped from the nest. Haven't gone near it since hoping mom or dad come back.
My, my. Someome here is a font of misplaced rage. Also, checked this morning. All of them have flown away and are probably pooping on cutig's freshly washed car right now.
Finally got my Pileated Woodpecker. Dude flew right over my shoulder at work. Thought he was a small hawk until he flew up in a tree like woodpeckers do. Couldn’t grab a picture, but it was awesome. I also saw a bunch of birds 3 weeks ago when I was in Yellowstone. I have some pictures to upload later.
A lot of martins nesting on the hotel I'm at. Saw a woodpecker the other day, not sure what kind. Seen one of those scissor tail birds this morning, not sure what they are (Texas). Had to move a morning dove nest, felt bad about it. 2 babies. not so young and one was in the nest earlier this morning so hopefully they are doing alright.
Afraid I don't know where that is, what state are you in? Some hawks have certain ranges, so it helps narrow it down. Though I think it's a juvenile Red-Tailed Hawk at first glance.
