Yesterday before the show, on our way to Monday Night Brewery, I told my wife I swear that’s Jeff Chimenti walking out of Starbucks. I could only see him from the side/back. Couple hours later after we got back from the brewery, 3 tour busses are parked right next to our hotel in midtown. Turns out they were staying at the Four Seasons which was right next door to ours (we stayed at the AC). I stand there for a few minutes, talking with one of the the drivers, telling him how I thought I saw JC earlier, and then JC walks out. Hes just standing there ripping a heater with hardly anyone around, so I go shake his hand and he asks if we’re going to the show and I say yeah we’ll be there and he says something like “tonight should be a good one, enjoy it.” Then Oteil walks out, and gets on the bus with Chimenti. Mayer was last, getting on the bus closest to the hotel entrance. Didn’t see Weir, Kreutzmann, or Hart. Presumably they were already loaded up.
Boulder? I’ll be in town - maybe going Friday, definitely going Saturday. Don’t have any tickets as is, but feel like it should be pretty easy to come up with some last min.
Yeah man. Will be there Saturday with my brother. You should be able to get a ticket with $100, I think
What’s the situation on the ground in Boulder? Everyone getting all fucked up?Buddy of mine flew out there from NYC. I had a fleeting thought of trying to get out there yesterday for tonight’s show, but we’ve got company coming this weekend.
Both were really good. I like the Dead and Co, but they never really build up to anything because the drummers never allow for it. It really limits what Mayer is able to do. The loudest it got was when Bobby howled a bunch during One More Saturday Night. Probably my fault for not tempering my expectations, but "builds" are probably the best part of seeing live music and I felt like I was edging all damn night. No nut.
Scarlet -> Fire to open Mayer’s solo on They Love Each Other Bobby on Estimated Eyes Birdsong all had me like last night didn’t particularly care for Don’t Ease Me In or Days Between. But still a great show overall.
Buddy of mine was hanging out with the Avett Brothers at the Four Seasons last night after the show when Jeff, Bobby, and Monet joined him. He said he was too intimidated by Bobby’s monstrous bodyguard to propose to Monet. He also said he ate some boomers, so I really wish he had attempted to make a move on her and embarrassed himself.
Did any of you have to stand in that ridiculous line at Lakeview last weekend? I got in line at 6:30 and didn't get into the concert until 8. I didn't recall what the entrance situation was from my only trip there, so I believed the security guard that told me there was only 1 line. People were getting super pissed. One guy next to me screamed out "whoever planned this is a cunt and I hope you die in a car crash on the way home" and I couldn't really disagree.
There have always been horrible line issues for Dead & Co at Lakewood for whatever reason. Don’t recall having similar issues at any other concerts there.
It sure would have helped a lot if they had 1 employee walking up-and-down the line to let people know that there were other lines.
Getting in in 2017 might have been the biggest clusterfuck I’ve been a part of at a concert or event.
Yea I can't see myself ever returning. By the time I got in, my mood was awful. And then the idea of paying 15 for 25 ounces of beer was a whole lot less appealing. Really killed my vibe brah
I walked up to the nearest security guy and asked if there was another line and was told "no." So much regret that I didn't just walk around and look.
Talked about that run with some old timers this weekend. Didn’t realize that they allowed camping in the parking lot at Alpine back then. That would be nuts.
29th Anniversary of Brent’s final show, and imo, the last great tour. “I gotta go but my friends can stick around...” Full show is on YouTube.
TheFreak55 or anyone else in Birmingham, do you want my tickets to tonight's meet up at Patton Creek? #Grateful Dead
24 year anniversary tomorrow. Apologies for feeling a little nostalgic and bittersweet. I had 5 college roommates my last three years of undergrad. We had a giant house that was an anchor for all our satellite friends, always someone hanging out. I’m old enough to have caught the Dead’s resurgence in the late 80’s and early 90’s. Listened to everything the Dead did. Everyone I knew did. We all graduated in the 1994-95 school year. We talked about hitting shows that Summer but didn’t. We all started getting jobs and moving away. We had two weeks left on our lease when Jerry died. Two of my roommates had moved out and a third was basically living with his girlfriend. I found out on radio, sitting home alone, but everyone started calling and stopping by. It turned into what was basically our last college party. I moved off campus at the end of that month. Always look back at Jerry Garcia’s death as the end of my college years. I know there are better versions than this one, but this one is the one that made me love this song:
Buckeye Lake as well, camping in the main lot and then adjacent hay fields were private parking/camping with no security. Literally just a farmer who owned them who set up trash cans, asked people to use them, and charged $20 a car.
50 year old take: the dead's set at Woodstock wasn't nearly as bad as legend would have it. Chaos all around them (stage started to get wobbled by the wind), they were drenched in LSD (and Bear was clearly loaded as well, given how shitty he handled their sound and electrical grounding), but, idk, it's not completely unlistenable. Went on 50 years ago tonight at around 10 PM. Listen along here: https://thekey.xpn.org/2019/08/08/x...N4XVAY8c-_bs1I5nwCb8r-Vq4o3AqDGd6Evc5dSf38KM4
Have been listening on and off since it started yesterday. Check the schedule from Canned Heat forward...pretty insane.
