There's fewer things I fear less in the woods than a black bear.

I would much rather come across a black bear than a brown bear.

I don’t think brown bears live around here but they seem more predatory in nature. About black bear, I am not too scared of them when I go jogging alone but one of my biggest fear would be walking my dog in the woods and seeing a few cubs in the trail.

When a whale dies and drops to the ocean floor, basically an entire ecosystem forms from it for upwards of decades.

I don't think that's a grizzly. And is that is her cub running up the tree next to the guy?? 2 mama bears with young cubs happening upon eachother is probably a bad thing. For one of them anyway.

    Favorite orcas are smart fact:

An orca’s portion of their brain that governs empathy and social interaction is so much bigger and more developed than ours, such that they feel emotions we aren’t even capable of.

Speaking of hunting and coming across black bears. I was deer hunting with my bow back in the early 2000's (I no longer hunt). The area I was hunting at the time had some nice bucks but had a known bear population based on what we saw on our cameras and what not. A momma bear and cub came by and she got my scent trail about 100 yards out and started circling, getting closer each rotation. At about 20 yards out she came into a dead ass sprint at the tree I was in. I shot her with my bow in the chest and it didn't stop her so I had to pull a .45 and emptied 7 into her head other wise I'd be dead right now. She made it half way up the tree I was in and I've never been so scared in my entire life. The cub had went on to survive and we saw him for years in the same area before people say anything.

Interesting that this was posted in response to a video of an orca picking off and killing a seagull apparently just for fun. ha!

The way they hunt and how they catch, kill, and eat whales seems very unempathetic. Chasing and tiring our baby whales for hours while their mother tries to protect them, then eventually holding them under water until they drown. On the other hand, they don't kill us, or put us in cages for their entertainment, so advantage orca.

I would surmise plotting how to entrap prey is a highly empathetic skill

empathy is the ability to understand and feel the pain and suffering of others, correct?? I think plotting and planning to trap prey is indicative of high intelligence, but considering you are eating the prey to death, it's not empathetic.

Orcas really should be vegetarians. though, I guess they are all pesectarian, so

No, just grew out of it. Would rather watch football games in the fall than spend it in a tree. Also I dreaded the processing that takes place afterwards. Now I have a wife that can't eat venison so its pointless.
