Vernon literally yelling at KOC about Westbrook a couple weeks ago made me turn the entire podcast off.
KOC is fine. Vernon is obnoxious. Tjarks has the voice of someone who should be writing lines of code with minimal personal interaction
For as much as this thread bitches and moans about voices, Vernon is a actually the only radio-worthy baritone on the site. He definitely plays the old-guy foil to KOC’s “new school analytics” character, but I find the banter to be pretty enjoyable and non-hackey. I like it when hosts give each other fair and sincere pushback without going full-blown First Take. Sometimes Group Chat and Corner Three can feel a little smarmy and circle-jerky. It’s nice hearing divergent opinions that aren’t shoveling one point of view down your throat.
enjoyed the town podcast with russilo. hope he gets in the rotation and shows up on a rewatchable pod every ~4-6 months.
Klosterman pods are basically must listen since the dawn of podcasts, but I think I've said this before, since he moved to Oregon he seems to have lost it a little. or just doesn't stay plugged in to shit so he sounds dumb when they talk about politics or other current events. Bill could benefit from bringing up politics with someone who isn't in their 40s and white though. The Town is a mostly forgettable movie.
he's still one of the only guests who has anything remotely resembling a spine with Bill (busting Simmons's balls over that youth baseball league filled with celeb parents, bringing up Larry Bird being a shitty father)
Don't get me wrong, I'll always listen to him and the UFO story was worth the price of admission alone. I like his ability to take bizarre spins on topics that make you look at something differently and his reflex to grill Bill about stuff, it just goes sideways when you can tell he's not up to speed on a lot of things they talk about.
I’ve never seen the town. Anywhere to watch it on streaming sites? HBO go/Netflix etc? Be nice if they told you where to find these movies currently so you can watch prior to the pod.
Had only seen The Town once but wasn’t a huge fan. Rewatched it last night and really enjoyed it a lot more.
Love The Town as a definition of a “rewatchable” but ill almost always Stan for heist movies and Jeremy Renner
RR said some funny stuff, but I also didn’t laugh at a large majority of it. Chris Ryan audibly dies at everything. Reservoir Dogs didn’t change his life because his dad was a movie reviewer. Chris Ryan is just a weirdo.
Also, nitpick and props to Chris Ryan. Ryen and Bill were fucking idiots for thinking that Hamm wasn’t intentionally botching the Boston accent in the interrogation scene. It is so clearly being done for comedic value. Also, the standoff before Renner getting killed is a great quote by Gem. Hamm: coughlin come out with your hands up Renner: Fack you
Bill not getting the most noticeable thing in the entire movie until the 9th rewatch (covering Gem’s neck) was hilarious and he should be shamed forever. With you on the Hamm making fun of Boston townie accents in that scene, who doesn’t catch that either?
wonder if Bill will have JackO on again this week in light of the weekend's tragedies to chuckle about Trump and run down the Democratic candidates
They both shat on Trump and have for years. They don’t stick up for him. What difference would it make? It’s not a strong Democratic field.
A) yes it is B) I don’t want to hear some milquetoast never Trumper talk about progressive politicians he can’t wrap his old brain around
Honestly, I’d prefer they keep politics out of their podcasts unless it is a political driven podcast. Stay in their lane. Sports, movies, tv and pop culture.
They laugh about Trump like he’s your outspoken uncle who says inappropriate shit at the Thanksgiving table. It’s incredibly tone deaf for two old rich white guys to giggle about Trump’s twitter feed and stupid nicknames while people get slaughtered by the white supremacists Trump panders to.
imo if he's going to touch that rail do it right or don't do it at all he clearly wants to talk about it occasionally, so just prepare better and maybe don't recreate your prep school dorm room chat vibe
I don't need it, but I'm not going to run around bitching every time something i perceive as political is mentioned in an ostensibly apolitical forum. But really this idea that politics is something remote that we aren't actively participating in constantly needs to die. And maybe people like War Grundle need to be confronted more often with the fact they voted for kids being taken from their parents and locked in cages, and for incitement of racist mass shootings.
Ahh the name calling. Right out of your playbook. Disagree with someone and go personal. Yes, I’m the child. I also didn’t vote for either of those things. Not going to ruin this thread with anymore back and forth. Too many other threads on this board where this discussion takes place.
how dare people think things like mass shootings and children locked in cages are a bit more important than "The Rewatchables: Howard the Duck!" You want reasons to ignore that and a big part of the reason America is in the shape it's in today is because people ignored it too much in the first place. If media outlets/celebrities want to stay away from those topics entirely, that's on them, I personally think it's cowardly but whatever. But don't yuck it up with your rich white buddies, and try to show even half the indignation you showed when Roger fucking Goodell took away a 1st rounder from your favorite football team.
I don't think the Ringer is under any obligation to do politics. Though, I'm not sure how it could be done considering it is a sports/pop culture website, and politics infuses everything today. I didn't listen to the Jacko pod, because I care even less about a Never Trump Republican's problems with Trump that don't start with his racism than I do about baseball.
Where did I say mass shootings aren’t more important? I’m not ignoring it. Sometimes you need a break from the stress and the heavy shit that smacks you in the face every day. Just prefer certain podcasts to be on the lighter, fun side.
This is the only reason I'm bummed about the move, if they end. Dual Threat being 3x a week means one more pod compared to the one he was doing there + the ESPN one. Also, the ESPN mic always sounded like shit, whereas the Ringer ones never do. Great move.
