Random thoughts. Holy shit I missed the DS great scythe moveset. It’s a beast. I also missed the heater shield for some reason.
TrustyPatches in demons souls made me more pissed than any NPC ever. Trapping me with that exploding firebug. What a dick.
I’ve been farming orn and smough for a couple hrs and I have to say that one of my new favorite things is rushing smough and melting him then promptly purple crystaling out any time a summoner has a Drake sword
I remember trying to get Darkmoon Blade for the achievement a couple years after launch and ended up giving up because the matchmaking sucked. Tried for weeks. Got it last night in about 45 minutes
Yeah, I don't know if I'll get darkmoon blade. Resins are good though and there is always sunlight blade.
From what I see online, you can drop them for people. That would be awesome. Always wanted to try DMB.
I basically just don't farm for slabs. That's one thing I like about 3. Plenty of upgrade materials to try different weapons.
Trying to unlearn the Witcher control scheme is making this even more brutal than I was expecting. Just had my first rate quit.
I’m fine now, but it was really frustrating for a while. Kept trying to fight these skeletons in firelink shrine and I kept pressing x to attack but would instead use my estus flask. Just standing there drinking a potion and getting sliced up by some skeletons. Took a break, came back, and went to town on them with my morningstar.
Are those orange messages on the ground messages from other players? Are they trustworthy? I feel like some of them are just there to fuck with you. How do you rate them?
If it doesn’t seem trustworthy, don’t trust it. Souls be trolling Save your humanity for when you feel you need the extra life bar or you want to summon. When you’re human form you can be invaded. Also it’s not a bad idea in some of the tougher areas to use humanity to kindle bonfires
Dark Souls players are connected at all times. While in your world you can use certain items that allow you to invade someone else’s game. While there, the object is to defeat them and return to your world with their souls and humanity (not all but a level specific amount) or covenant item. You can only be invaded in human form and while an area boss is up. Summons are players who intend to help you with an area/boss through co-op. They lay down Summon Signs on the ground (mostly at bonfires or outside boss rooms) that you can only see in human form. You touch the sign and summon them in.
They often are from players but somestimes there are developer messages. In any event, they can be lies so trust them at your own peril.
If you're not pvping I usually only use humanity to kindle a bonfire. As a new player I would kindle most bonfires I see to max. Having more heals is pretty nice. Also, I've never really run out of humanity when using them for only this purpose. I also want to note that if there is a firekeeper at a bonfire then it will already be kindled one time and provide 10 estus. For instance, the one in firelink shrine. So no need to kindle that one.
VoodooChild5 if this is your first run with the souls series feel free to ask questions about builds and whatnot. I think one of the top killers of the souls series are players who waste resources leveling and find themselves with a build that doesn’t work. Remember that survivablity and patience trumps damage easily while you are learning the ropes. If I were on Xbox I’d love to play with you but sadly you are a peasant
Does a high rating for a message generally mean it’s trustworthy? Also, how do you leave messages and rate other messages?
I started as a wanderer. I tend to enjoy high mobility and high damage gameplay in rpg’s. Don’t really like tanking or casting.
I high rating is a good indicator but it certainly does not mean it’s trustworthy. If I’m fooled by a message, I’ll upvote it to keep the troll moving. I’m pretty sure you get the ability to write messages from the vendor in undead berg
Well that's good actually because that means you will have what is known in souls as "fast roll". This will give you the best dodge. You need to be under 25% equip load to achieve this type of dodging. This is a highly effective way of avoiding damage, particularly against bosses.
High mobility = survival in Souls. Tanking does also but learning to dodge and having the ability to do it as much as possible is a positive. Also, this ain’t ya mamas rpg
Thing I’m probably struggling with the most is timing parries. Also, how much of the souls I’m collecting should I be using to level up?
I use most of my souls to level up. The other souls I use to buy things like arrows, repair armor, upgrade materials, homeward bones.
I think the most important thing in this game is your weapon upgrade level, have that as upgraded as possible. After that it is important to level your character as much as you can. Invest in endurance, vigor (HP) and whatever damage stat makes your weapon stronger.
