They reimagined/re-recorded Opiate a couple of years ago with an extended break down. There was talk of an official video for it too but so far neither have seen the light of day (other than playing brief segments of it at a few VIP events). People seemed to think they'd be released alongside the new material and maybe that accounts for the extra 10 minutes of digital content?
It was from the website of a prominent California record store. The preorder sold out in minutes but the link (which has now been taken down) was up for several hours. The info is supposed to be released today with the actual preorder beginning tomorrow so I assume they just jumped the gun by posting the link a day early
selling a one-off screen seems so incredibly wasteful. i'm happy they finally put their stuff on streaming services.
It's uniquely Tool but very different than anything else they've done. After a few listens the vocals remind me of APC Maynard
Just preordered the CD. Here’s the description: Fear Inoculum is the long awaited new album from TOOL, and the band's first new album in 13 years. The album will be available digitally, and in a special Limited Edition physical package that includes a CD in a tri-fold Soft Pack Video Brochure featuring a 4" HD rechargeable screen with exclusive video footage, a USB charging cable, a 2 watt speaker and a 36 page insert book and MP3 download card. Tool members include drummer Danny Carey, guitarist Adam Jones, bassist Justin Chancellor and vocalist Maynard James Keenan. To date, Tool has released four studio albums, one EP, and one box set. Formed in 1990 in Los Angeles, California Tool emerged with a heavy metal sound on their first studio album, Undertow in 1993. Later, Tool became a dominant act in the alternative metal movement with the release of its follow-up album Ænima in 1996. The band's efforts to unify musical experimentation, visual arts, and a message of personal evolution continued with the release of Lateralus in 2001, and 10,000 Days in 2006 - gaining Tool critical acclaim, and commercial success around the world. Tool has won three Grammy Awards, performed worldwide tours, and produced albums topping the charts in several countries.
I like it. Haven’t read the lyrics yet. Seems like vintage tool. I could hear it on Aenima or lateralus
Dug it but for a 10 minute song it didn't have that one moment that really grabbed me. Still solid though and I'm sure it'll continue growing on me, especially when I hear it in the context of the album.
I thought it was pretty mediocre. Not great, not terrible. I wonder if people would even care if the Tool name wasnt attached
This feeling is exactly what I expected tbh. Because I didn't expect them to change anything. And I didn't expect to do backflips over something I already sunk so much time into when I was a younger man.
Of course you did. On the flip side if it was from some nobody you'd hail it as the perfect blend of Sleep & Meshuggah
Not sure if he's been posted before, but KingKTF is hand's down the best Tool reactor on YouTube. He started doing rock reactions about a year ago and now is a true Tool fan. He's done all of their biggest songs and most of the fan favorites. I highly recommend checking his channel out. He posted this video fast as fuck after it dropped this morning.
Again, what did you expect. Nothing I’ve ever heard from them sounded far from their basic blueprint. Didn’t think they were about to reinvent themselves like Metallica Load. (Had they done that, I’d have been intrigued to hear the result but this is exactly what I was expecting)
I expected a little more progression in their writing than a track that could have been on 10,000 Days, which was released when I was still in high school. I'm 30 now.
They peaked in 1996 as far as I’m concerned. I enjoyed Lateralus and 10k Days but neither ever reached Aenima for me
Maynard's register and overall range on this song isn't like any song on 10k days. To say the instruments sound the same, I'm not sure what to tell you, they sound like Tool. I'm just not sure what kind of progression you were looking for.
i'll bite on the vocal register thing though, just because is he singing higher than on The Pot? or lower than on Wings For Marie? or maybe in some new middle-ground that no one has ever heard before?
So? We already know their fanatical fan base sucks, I'm sure you could find plenty of comments just like that with minimal effort.
i think it's funny how closely the "crazy fans" mirror the posts here the song is mediocre, man. you know it is
