"Best dog food" topic seems to come up quite frequently. I've posted form this site previously. You can sign up for recall email updates/warning. It also has a bunch of useful articles, content & brand/kibble ratings with ingredient breakdowns: https://www.dogfoodadvisor.com Article: Diet & Heart Disease in Dogs https://www.dogfoodadvisor.com/dog-...-link-between-diet-and-heart-disease-in-dogs/ Ingredient Splitting: https://www.dogfoodadvisor.com/dog-food-industry-exposed/ingredient-splitting/ Based on what I've read, we've chosen to rotate brands/recipes, so that Luca is receiving a more balanced diet. Currently rotating recipes between Wellness Core & Orijen
Lol and this is why you ignore vets when it comes to food, they don’t know jack shit about it. Dump I suggest you flip over the bag of science diet and royal canin your feeding tonight and tell me if you even recognize 5 of the ingredients.
yes lets ignore the people who have the job that relates best to know whats best for the dog or cat I’m sure you ignore your doctor all the time
Dog food advisor can be a good source of info. The only thing I fucking hate is his meat % calculation. One of the most prominent pet food formulators put it best to me, determining the meat content in these diets is a lot more complicated than a 5th grade algebra equation.
Client asks vet for advice Vet gives solid advice Client doesn’t really like it and instead searches on Google or goes to a friend who had similar issue but not really that similar Client takes that advice, but dog or cat doesnt improve and he calls back vet asking why isn’t his animal doing better Vet says well did you do what I suggested Client says not really because I looked on Google and what they said fit my needs better Vet
Yeah, meat % is not hugely important to me. I think they do a good job breaking everything down & pointing out controversial ingredients or practices, enabling me to make a more educated decision.
You recommended 2 brands that are okay on a budget & higher quality than some grocery store brands, but overall pretty shit. Royal Canin's primary ingredient is rice for god's sake. They certainly aren't worthy of anyone's stamp of approval. Royal Canin Ingredients: Spoiler Brewers rice, chicken by-product meal, oat groats, wheat, corn gluten meal, chicken fat, natural flavors, dried plain beet pulp, fish oil, calcium carbonate, vegetable oil, potassium chloride, salt, monocalcium phosphate, choline chloride, hydrolyzed yeast, vitamins [dl-alpha tocopherol acetate (source of vitamin E), l-ascorbyl-2-polyphosphate (source of vitamin C), biotin, d-calcium pantothenate, vitamin A acetate, niacin supplement, pyridoxine hydrochloride (vitamin B6), thiamine mononitrate (vitamin B1), vitamin B12 supplement, riboflavin supplement, vitamin D3 supplement, folic acid], l-lysine, trace minerals [zinc proteinate, zinc oxide, ferrous sulfate, manganese proteinate, manganous oxide, copper sulfate, calcium iodate, sodium selenite, copper proteinate], magnesium oxide, rosemary extract, preserved with mixed tocopherols and citric acid Science Diet Ingredients: Spoiler Chicken, whole grain wheat, cracked pearled barley, whole grain sorghum, whole grain corn, corn gluten meal, chicken meal, pork fat, chicken liver flavor, dried beet pulp, soybean oil, lactic acid, flaxseed, potassium chloride, iodized salt, calcium carbonate, choline chloride, vitamins (vitamin E supplement, l-ascorbyl-2-polyphosphate (source of vitamin C), niacin supplement, thiamine mononitrate, vitamin A supplement, calcium pantothenate, vitamin B12 supplement, pyridoxine hydrochloride, riboflavin supplement, biotin, folic acid, vitamin D3 supplement), minerals (ferrous sulfate, zinc oxide, copper sulfate, manganous oxide, calcium iodate, sodium selenite), oat fiber, taurine, mixed tocopherols for freshness, natural flavors, beta-carotene, apples, broccoli, carrots, cranberries, green peas
the two brands that have people in charge with veterinary medicine in mind and not what humans think what their dog needs
But don’t go crawling to your vets when your pets come down with pancreatitis, bladder stones, and heart disease when their body can’t properly address all of the pure protein that you give them because you think that is what they need
My parents have dogs that live forever and stay healthy eating Purina One. Their last dog was 16 when he died of old age. They have a beagle who is 13 and healthy. Dog food arguments
my favorite are the commercials that say feed your dog/cat like a wolf/lion and conveniently leave out their shorter lifespans or people who pay attention to your local petco worker who barely graduated HS over someone who spent their whole life on this practice
You are a vet tech, albeit one with a sweet jumper & a lover of animals If that happens, I'll put Luca on a strict chicken by-product meal diet. Until then, I'll roll with a balanced, whole-food diet, if possible
Eh we would have liked them to stand up on their own but we have been pretty set against us having to stand them up. Not like we are gonna breed or show him and they match his personality lol.
When you're old and have had acl surgery twice on the same knee but keep insisting you can play softball you gotta take precautions.
We are almost ready to get back into the saddle, but I was hoping to get some advice on the setup at the new house. the backyard situation isn't ideal. I'll spoiler some pics below, but I was wondering: 1. any issues with having a dog run that tracks the pool to the side of the house (we will get a pool fence)? 2. will this size be sufficient for a pup between 20-30 lbs? it's about 7 feet by 30, and we will pull up these trees. this will also be for bathroom breaks only - we'll still walk the fella. 3. is this the type of stone that we'd need for both sanitation and paw comfort, assuming we pick up his logs as they drop? Spoiler: pics
My puppers have done well on Merrick Raw infused. Thoughts on keeping them on puppy food for longer than a year or two?
You should just let him have the run of the backyard. It’s not a child, they can swim by instinct if they accidentally fall in the pool. If they don’t like the water they won’t go in. The rocks are fine they won’t care. Don’t overthink it.
Puppy food is pure marketing, when it comes to specific life stage food or breed type food the only legitimate one where there’s a legit difference is large breed food.
Last year my brother and I started our own brand but I have been on the branded side, distribution side, and retail side. My family has been it forever.
Just to be clear you’re saying I can keep them on what I have them? My male is about 75 and not overweight I walk him about 2-2.5 miles a day. My female is slightly on the heavy side.
Just asking opinions from a few guys that appear to know what they are talking about. I am taking groot in for a check up next week. Planned on asking the vet then too.
Long shot here, but I need somewhere that would take in an aggressive dog. Friend's dog has had one too many instances of attacking others, seemingly at random, and she just can't take it anymore. If she can't find a shelter or something to take her to, she's going to have to put her down. It's in the Columbus OH area.
