Ahhhh I knew it Always felt like you were on a subtle crusade to associate the people itt who mostly seem to simply enjoy their music with the wackos because you used to be one but now you aren't anymore. Yes after two listens though I don't think it's anything special.
Who has reacted even remotely close to that? Every response, positive or negative, has been fairly measured. Not everyone is going to have the same opinion as you Joe, especially those who might be bigger fans of their music than you.
*subtle by your standards This is the first time I've seen you actually make the comparison though, I think That Monarch album SMOD posted today's pretty solid btw, kind of a jazzy psych/prog
That was in reference to the part about people who might be bigger fans of their music I'm saying I've listened the life out of their stuff And I couldn't care less if people think the same way as me about this or any other album
Really though if you cant have strong opinions about music what can you have them about? Tennis shoes?
The song is mediocre when compared to their catalogue but at least it’s something. The music is still better than most of what’s out there and Danny Carey absolutely slays it like always. Hopefully the album is more well rounded.
Prior to this new release their discography was 4 albums and a 25 minute EP. They make intricate music but it’s not exactly an expansive catalog that’s difficult to wrap your mind around.
Sure, but how many 50 year old dudes have recorded transcendent music ever? Considering all of the attendant circumstances, it’s good. I was expecting a lot worse.
I wasn't expecting it to be transcendent. But I was expecting it to not be boring after this long I was hoping for something better than paint by numbers
My main issue with 10,000 Days wasn’t the music, which I enjoyed quite a bit, but that Keenan really undersold his vocal work and wasn’t taking any big shots despite some of the impressive work he’d recently done with A Perfect Circle. How does Fear Inoculum stack up in terms of his range and soaring crescendos?
this sort of excuse-making isn't helping them do Slayer or Megadeth get a pass for writing the same album for 20 years because they're old?
expecting it to not be mediocre and boring is a dumb expectation now? and people are acting like i'm out of line
Why did you think it would be good? It sounds like you hate their stuff and nobody old puts out music you like.
they made good albums in the past that i liked so i hoped it would fall somewhere near that orbit instead we got a 10,000 Days B-side
Some people heard Tool in their late teens and early 20s and were like "This is awesome, I want to find more of this stuff." Other people heard Tool in their late teens and early 20s and were like "This is as good as it gets."
They haven’t made an album you’ve liked in 15 years. This is a you problem, not a them problem. You don’t like this band anymore. It’s ok. You can listen to all the Black Fast that you’d like. It’s just dumb and disingenuous to act like there was any chance you’d like this album.
oh please I gave the song a fair shot. It was mediocre. I'll give the whole album a fair shot. We'll see what happens.
If it sounds like the song released today you're godamned right I won't I was joking about the Soen album being better some months ago but at this point it's not really close
The Pot was tight. The rest of the album, meh. I expect more from alleged "great" bands. If nothing else I expect them to at least try.
This is definitely the way people talk about bands they like. Do you usually have a hissy fit when other bands you don’t like put out albums you don’t like, or is it just Tool, because you liked em when you were a super deep teenager and they’re supposed to mean more!!!?
I ignored this thread like a page ago but you guys are still quoting my posts and replying so what do you want?
If you just listen to tool’s music in a vacuum you’re missing half the experience anyway. Or maybe you’re too thick to pick up the band's efforts to unify musical experimentation, visual arts, and a message of personal evolution
Three cheeseburgers, two large fries, two chocolate shakes and a large coke. And some flapjacks. Too early for flapjacks?
