Meh I don’t like Russillo without SVP how he has become, but I don’t really listen to NFL content either way. I do agree someone disagreeing with Bill is a good thing.
Yeah, Mina literally co-hosts a pod on the Ringer now. Bill is going to do PTI again allegedly as well.
its really really hit or miss whether him and bill together are good a little let down they'll likely be doing a pod a week going forward
Chuck and bill don’t need to talk politics. Bill has a really simplistic view of the world, and I’m not sure I care what chuck has to say based on their banter.
I just couldn't get into his backup QB thing. I like the creative idea but the content put me to sleep.
I think he had too many pods directed towards it. I think two would have been fine. I liked the Henson one mainly because we came out of HS the same year so I remember what a big deal he was so I was curious the situation between him and Brady at Michigan.
A) I forgot i started this thread. Looks like the title is still accurate, lol B) Despite still subbing these pods I rarely listen to the ringer stuff anymore. C) The latest Simmons podcast w that tech reporter was really good imo. Thanks for listening.
He has had Andy Benoit on twice....which is just WOOF. His college football stuff is better than his NFL stuff. He has a better feel for it.
i assumed it'd be good because for a time at least they were friends/friendly maybe i'll skip it then, went with the Russilo announcement pod at gym instead at least in the five minutes it became apparent the political analogy simmons was trying to make wouldn't go anywhere because ryen isn't educated on politics
mostly finished the Ryen/Bill pod maybe instead of ruminating why younger people don't have the same bootlicking mentality they do have someone on to explain it to you, or even just a 101 on what all the squishy things they talk about that largely only benefits the owners over the players like "loyalty" is really about
It’s not like they are archaic. They are two guys who are in the prime of their careers. One is 49 and the other is 44. Not every young person knows what they are talking about or is right. I wouldn’t call it boot licking mentality. They understand paying dues and chain of command. A lot of people don’t get that. Especially people under 30 these days. Can they have crotchety takes? Sure, but it doesn’t mean because they are over 40 they are always wrong. I agree though that maybe Bill should have younger people in and least have more debate because they sometimes get in ruts but when it came to the Zeke part I don’t think they were wrong in his situation.
Bill Simmons was writing articles comparing members of the Celtics to characters in Teen Wolf and the Challenge then was given his own platform with Grantland and didn't respect the chain of command and quit. He was not under 30 tbch if my math is correct
He was 31 when ESPN recruited to write for Page 2. He had more hits than any other writer for years. He did that for 7-8 years then got promoted to TV for NBA Countdown, created 30 for 30 and then was asked to create and run Grantland in his 40s.
Silverman saying the comedy version of black face she did in the 2000s being different from an 80s version of a Halloween party black face is problematic. In 2019, black face is black face and it’s stupid. She should stick to whether or not the person has changed since they did black face. If you own your words and and aren’t a piece of shit in present day, people should give you a chance for redemption. Whether a person does is their individual prerogative.
I love collateral. Gray haired Tom Cruise running everywhere and fighting like his Jack Reacher persona
There have been a few for me that I’ve had to skip: Mad Max Fury Road Proof of Life My Best Friend’s Wedding
Is this from the Zeke part? I kind of zoned out while listening to that section and don't really remember some of what you're talking about.
I laughed at Bill when he said he’d rather have Reggie Miller’s career to Ray Allen’s because he played for only one team.
who cares about championships when you'll never have to pay for a shrimp cocktail at St. Elmo for the rest of your life
I'll gladly chip in $25 for the next guest to bring up Aaron Hernandez when Bill talks Jeffrey Epstein "That's gotta be a top 7 prison suicide of the past decade, right?"
then Russillo can chime in with "And I see these people on Twitter saying Jeffrey Epstein was innocent and i'm just like...really?"
Ehh. Black face is wrong either way, but intent matters IMO. She even said " not that that matters now".
related: the ringer just announced their intentions to unionize should be an interesting test of how good simmons really is as a boss
ah. understood. tbh i listen to/read a lot of ringer stuff but i have completely given up on any content that's simmons-centric. he's just so goddamn irritating.
