I read shea serrano and check the site during the nba season 3 or so times a week, listen to a bunch of the podcasts. I have no idea of the company's profitability. Th podcast network seems to do very well with ads. I also don't know their entire business model especially because of their HBO stuff especially Andre, which crushed it.
I've never seen this and whew there are some stinkers in there. with him (and every logical person) on public funding of stadiums, which I know is why it was posted though.
this one ain't party specific. unfortunately it's so easy to brainwash sports fans and politicians of all persuasions.
I don't know how a ton about what goes into the process of making all of this happen, but it seems very unlikely to me that something like this goes from nothing to announcing it publicly in one week after Russillo got hired. Seems like it would take longer than that just to collect the feedback of everyone on staff. Even if some people were aware he was coming in before that, I don't understand how that alone would create this.
The last article i read was the 76ers/Colangelo story. I almost exclusively listen to the podcasts. Grantland used to be a part of my daily websites i visited.
I think I only caught one episode of that show and all I really remember was a drunk Ben Affleck going off about Deflate-gate
Bill Burr was on one w/ Wayne Gretzky that was good. Probably had more to do with Bill Burr than anything.
Disagree but to each his own. Bill's style has always been the same dating back to the mid 2000's. He's just older now.
He’s been calling out people who easily get offended for half of his comedy career. You’ve never watched a Burr special? He’s been one of the best comedians the last 12 years.
"Calling out people who easily get offended" is A) the lowest hanging fruit in comedy and B) only seems to go one way.
Easily Offended vs. Caring About Things is a thing that almost all bad outrage comedians miss. And that’s fine. But it gets old after a decade
I still find him funny. He's the best guest on Conan other than norm to me. His podcasts are great to listen to while doing yard work but like I said to each his own. I can see why some would tire of it. He's just been my favorite comedian for over a decade.
I imagine, especially if they didn't know it was coming, he's been in constant meetings with investors and other owners, lawyers, etc who all don't want him to say anything at all. they'll acknowledge the union and negotiate imo
I mean we all complain about Bill's takes but I wouldn't exactly put these two in the same sentence. I bet the ringer acknowledges the union and negotiates.
Simmons can't comment on it (beyond whatever ownership/"management" says, which is Simmons+whomever else) without potentially bringing a NLRB charge. all of these bloggers at deadspin, on twitter, and even at politico seem ignorant to that.
Bill would be for the hilarity of the situation, Portnoy would be because I would like to see him ruined
You can find me in the replies to that. My guess is that whoever is currently running the NLRB would love nothing more than to see organized labor eradicated from the earth, but we can dream
I have consumed exactly 1 single piece of Ringer content that was not a podcast, so I don't know what the rest of their network looks like.... Surely 'writers' is a catch-all word for their content staff, right? I would assume most of their traffic does not come from written articles, just a guess.
I usually click a ringer link if they are talking about Braves, Falcons etc (on of my teams) but I rarely finish them. I do always like their graphics. They should pay the designer.
Not even remotely like that guy. I didn’t like him at all based on his message board persona. Some of you love making baseless generalizations and stereotypes if god forbid someone has a different opinion. You stifle any kind of open discussion.
PSA: Mallory Rubin talks about sex on the Gone Girl rewatchables That was fine, btw, but Shea did nothing on it (and i generally think he's fine) and actually Bill Simmons was awful on it. No idea why because i think he's ordinarily good on them. he was rushing and generally pretty bad. Mallory and Sean were great. Those two + Chris Ryan would've been perfect.
At least it makes sense in that one. Loved the book. Never saw the movie. Was the movie pretty close?
Shea is fine when he talks movies that are in his wheelhouse. Anything else...woof. That Villains podcast was brutal to listen to which kinda sucks because it was an interesting concept.
This whole union thing ends with Barstool acquiring the Ringer then one of the chuds becoming WH press secretary.
I didn’t think he should have went so absolute in his takes but I trust Wesley’s opinion a lot when it comes to film and he agreed a lot with him. I agree that some critics read too much into certain aspects but it’s a movie and ll people are going to view it differently. I’m sure he’s going to turn some off in his absolute opinions. Everyone is going to apply their own personal experiences to movies like that. I enjoyed the pod though. Wish he had Wesley on every month at least.
I thought they made some nice points that might’ve been lost on me, or maybe anyone who only watched the movie once. Certainly felt like they stretched with some takes.
Simmons came in HOT on that movie, once he calmed down it was fine but he clearly identifies with Tarantino in a weird way takes weren't bad, I align more with Wesley that it's a largely restrained nuanced movie so anyone screaming about how great the regressive championing in it or insert X take here is take hunting more than it being reality
great pod with Windhorst, had been wondering what Bill felt about the Celtics, Kawhi and LeBron's future
I am usually a fan of the NBA content, especially in free agency. But would it kill him to have a football oriented pod in mid August??? I really don't think many people care about this iteration of Team USA
