So I finally made it out to the fabled COMMERCE for some $5/5NL action. Everything I had heard about it was as advertised. Not the fanciest place around and absolutely horrific traffic despite rolling in before noon. That said, it was nice parking about 50 yards from the entrance to the poker room and walking right into the action. And there was action.

Sat with $500 and had about 5 aggro types getting right after it. I think I folded the first 25 hands or so and in that span of time there were probably 4-5 rebuys between a crazy Russian and 3 Japanese guys that were just barreling off. Despite not having a hand to play for the first 3 orbits, I had no problem getting action when I finally entered a pot. Had the best player at the table double me up after he bluff reraised me all-in on the river when I held the stone-cold nuts. Was uneventful for a while after that and I dwindled a bit with a failed bluff attempt back at same player I doubled through. Flopped top set in back-to-back hands with AA and JJ and only made what I had raised preflop as my opponents were playing a crazy wide range and unfortunately did not connect with the board in those hands. That was very disappointing. Was on the brink of racking up a decent win and leaving when I went on a good heater in the last 90 minutes of my session.

First big pot came in a multiway hand where I raised in late position with AKo. Flop came 9TJ with a flush draw. First to act opened with $30 and it went 3-ways to the turn. It was a beautiful card for me; a Q that put 2 flush draws on the board and gave me the nuts. First to act again bet $125 and I contained my excitement as the other guy in the hand called. Was praying both guys had a K in their hand and shipped it for about $500 more effective. First guy tanked and eventually called. Second guy folded, and we held on the river. Guy had K8o and the other guy that folded had A8o.

Second big pot came in a hand where I limp-called with JTo in late position. Went 4-ways to the flop of 789 where one guy hit his set and we got it all-in on the flop and held for about a $1k pot. Easy game.

Cashed out $2.5K for a great first time at the Commerce. Will definitely be back as the action there is about as good as anywhere on the planet I imagine.

Do you get to keep the bounty $ in addition to prize money? Not sure how that works.

Yeah you keep it all. I didnt realize it was a bounty tournament until I got there. Although I got $300 in bounties this time I dont really rack em up usually. Would rather keep the money in the prize pool. And the payout structure was kinda meh. 7th of 153 gets $763, seems too top heavy for a $250 buy in ...

I’ll be attending a conference in Vegas for work in September but have to stay at a Marriott off the strip. I haven’t been to Vegas in years. What would be the suggested casino to play some NLH?
Ill be there the week of Sept 16 but unfortunately have some coworkers so I doubt I’ll be able to play much.

Been traveling a bit and just got in to audio books. Started listening to Phil Gordons little green book. Any other suggested readings out there?

I only got part way in to it and played cards that night. Nothing earth shattering to my style but I definitely tried some new things to be more tight aggressive. Had a great read on this one guy and 3 bet him a few times and got him to fold. Also got caught once. Flop was 7h6sKc and I’m holding 10s9s. Preflop has about 5 callers at $12 and I’m on the button. Checks all around to me and I like my position. Guy to my right bets $20 and I call and so does short stack small blind. Turn is a Js now giving me a double gut shot and flush draw. Small blind leads out with $30 gets raised to $60 before the action comes to me with $210 in the pot. I wasn’t too concerned with SB but I had about $280 left and the raiser about $350. What’s the move here?

I decide to make an aggressive semi bluff and shove. Figure 15 outs but nearly getting odds if he calls. SB folds and raiser snap calls with a set of 7’s. The 8s drops on the river for my flush. He talked about it for the rest of the session.

...session ended when in back to back hands I flopped K high flush to an Ace high flush. Moved in next hand with AJ suited and got called by A10 off and lost two 2 pair.

anyone following the stones live/mike postle story?

SVP ran it yesterday on his show. The Ringer had an article on it today. Doug Polk had a video a few days ago. Joey Ingram has been streaming his table play for four nights in a row and it's addicting to watch.

Haralabos helped make this story mainstream so I've been clued in for a while. Pretty wild.

    Just google Mike Postle.

Stones “investigated” and didn’t find anything. His play is off the charts good. Won like $250k playing $1/$3 and $5/$5. Everyone wants to say he is legit but it’s sketchy as hell. Definitely cheating somehow or he is in on it with others. He won a lot playing at their televised table with RFID card readers. Joey goes in to some of the crazy tech out there that is relatively inexpensive but can basically give you every card with high accuracy or simply tell you which position is going to win the hand.

I don’t think he is still playing at the moment. They said he tried to make a run at $10/$25. A former dealer or broadcaster basically called him out and it got a ton of attention. Guy won like $3k on a hand with 45 off against AK and AK. I know you’ve done this before but the preflop raises and calls are absurd.

there's a decent summary on the first page of 2plus2: https://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/...-cheating-allegations-faq-first-post-1753388/

the Doug Polk video also summarizes some of the major points and the most controversial hand:
Here's the ringer summary (with links to some of the main things): https://www.theringer.com/2019/10/4...tch-no-limit-holdem-sacramento-veronica-brill

if you have lots of time, i'd just watch the hands that Joey Ingram has gone through.

Streams #1-#3 were of winning sessions. #4 was through a losing session. His play was way different. Here's his channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/joeingram1/videos

Pigs get fat, hogs get slaughtered. In addition to being scum, Postle is an idiot. If you're going to cheat, at least make sure your profit is within the realm of possibility. His winnings, though, are such a statistical anomaly that cheating is the only explanation. Even though the current evidence is circumstantial, every casino should ban him. He should never be given a chance to make another dollar at a brick and mortar.

Watch the last Joey vid. He shows a technology where if the cards were marked you can hide a camera in a key. He will at times play with his keys on the rail which is very odd. Not saying it’s what he is doing but if the deck was marked, it’s plausible.

I don't understand this at all.

If you know viewers can see everyone's cards, and you can also see everyone's cards, why would you pick this particular spot for a few hundred bucks in equity?

If the rumors are true, he plays at that table bc he has someone with access to the live feed that feeds him info. The feed is supposed to be only like a 30 minute delay. So people online aren't seeing it live. But he has someone in the production room watching it live and feeding him info. He's the only one with that info.

And he's made hundreds of thousands of dollars.

This is the most damning evidence I've seen yet. He is caught red handed here, imo. There's no way he'd know the RFID wasn't picking up the cards if he didn't have access to them, yet he clearly fans his cards over the reader 3-4 times.

Though it's a different but very similar game, I'm thankful that backgammon has taught me some solid life lessons. For example, when I think I'm making smart decisions and growing a bit full of myself, backgammon swiftly reminds me that I am, In fact, a fucking dumbass whose few working neurons echo when they manage to fire by pure chance.

It's worse. In poker, you can at least comfort yourself with delusion and ignorance. Backgammon, though, is pretty much a solved game (except for the backgame). There is software that analyzes your play and gives you a very detailed score.
