I think I’m going to get drunk and refinance my mortgage tonight.

Or at least look into it.

    The refi.

    Not the get drunk part.

What’s the consensus counter depth fridge around here. My Samsung is currently dying after 8 years and I remember that brand being a pariah.

Have one and like the look. But I also have a second fridge in the garage. I wouldn’t go counter depth if that wasn’t the case.

I didn’t get drunk, but I did look at refi options through better.com. My 2014 loan is at 4.25% and they are offering 3.5% with no points and around $2500 in costs. I’d make that money back in 20 months.

Jorts I think I recall reading you are licensed in GA. Not sure if you want to talk about options with another internet stranger.

We have a Samsung. We’ve had it just at 2 years now, no issues with the ice maker. All things being equal, if I were buying now I’d look to a brand without as many issues as Samsung, but we haven’t had problems with our appliances personally (yet). I did purchase the extended warranty, and expect all my appliances to fail in about 3 years.

Side note, only about 25% of people who should be using a counter depth fridge are doing so. I always chuckle when I walk into somebody‘s kitchen and they have a behemoth fridge sticking out of their cabinet enclosure.

This is me right now and I am sick of the eye sore. I’ll give Samsung a look too, I have a lot of their appliances and they have held up so far without any real repairs until this fridge just started dying.

I’d just do some google/consumer reports research and see what those sources say. I think I recall hearing that Samsung has addressed the ice maker issue by now (perhaps even as far back as the model I own) but I know a lot of people will never buy Samsung again because of their experiences. A lot of times with appliances it seems changes (for better or worse) happen all the time with product lines, so I’d try to find as many reviews and ratings for 2019 as possible and act on those, as opposed to anecdotal information that could be outdated.

The. I saw I have like 7 it I tiles with a crack in them when the house settled. Pretty sure warranty should cover that, but we will see.

Two 12 year old inefficient units. Also my wife left pool heater on high for almost 20 hours. I expected over $300 but not almost 6. Feel much better after realizing 171 was from last month

You got real lucky with the pool heater. My pool guy told me that he's seen people have a mortgage payment size bill when they forget to turn that off.

I didn’t even know it was a pool heater until after we moved in bc it heats hot tub and then overflows into pool, I thought it just heated hot tub. Don’t know how to just make it heat hot tub only or if it’s even possible bc that’s all I really want it to do a.tramp

    Hello, fuck LG appliances too.

Did the first self-clean cycle on our 3 month old LG oven before vacation. Apparently doing it baked the shit out of the lock control and our shit has been locked out since.

Under warranty, so cool. 2 week wait to get someone out after I told them the problem. Dude with literal perma duckface comes out and goes welp yeah it's as you described we're going to order the part. We'll be back in 10 days.

    Fuck appliances :killme:

    Question:

My full home top to bottom warranty is up on the 28th. Would it be a wise decision to spend money on an inspector to have them come out and do a one over? It's brand new and we haven't had any issues thus far aside from needing a dryer sensor fixed and a water line from the wall to the fridge replaced.

Closing costs seem high. I'm refinancing this week and my closing costs are $400.

Are you refinancing with the same bank that owns your current mortgage?

No, we got a loan through our builder initally, and are refinancing through a local bank with dirt cheap closing costs.

That seems absurdly low, so you are either paying a premium (aka higher rate) to cover your costs, or you are misreading the Loan Estimate.

Neither. I've already had 2 mortgages through them and we're refinancing through them on our house now. Doing a 15 year at 3.25% with 400 closing costs. I think a first mortgage on a home and not a refi was maybe 600 in closing, but it's not much more.

I assumed 30 year. Rate seems high for a 15. I just locked a 30 fixed at 3.41% with no points this morning. Same comment stands, they’ve premium priced your rate to cover the closing costs. Might be down to terminology... $400 in lender fees, or closing costs?

Loan structure is a lot about smoke & mirrors. The lowest rate, or lowest cost is rarely the best deal. If you aren’t working with someone that isn’t breaking it down for you, you should talk to someone that does.

I’m buying a townhouse that was foreclosed on by the VA. It was supposed to be a 30 day close and they’ve missed deadlines twice now including one today. I don’t have a date on when closing will be now. I planned on moving in last week and now have had to reschedule appliance and furniture deliveries twice. What’s a reasonable thing to negotiate from them for the inconvenience? A reduction in price, moving/closing costs covered, etc.?
