Should not have even gotten to that point. Gomez with nice jog to let 32 year old Pedro beat him to the ball.
Not that anyone is to be taken too lightly (as shown today), but at least we don't have the best of competition this weekend. I do expect a bit of a sluggish performance, though. Well, except from some of the defenders.. looks like they were saving their energy for this weekend...
Poetic justice that the bitch who took a dive for the second goal missed his penalty to lose the game. Just fantastic.
I really hope it’s not stunting his growth as a CB...but I really can’t see how it’s not at this point
I do remember a certain number 5 scoring two goals in the historic, greatest in club history, comeback in the UCL semifinal that led to a big ass trophy coming home. Pretty surprised at the defense to be honest. Inexcusable Mental errors left and right and we probably didn’t deserve to make it to extra time even though the penalty was extremely soft. I did really like, even though it went against us, how the refs didn’t use VAR to legislate the game in that instance. It will help and it will hurt over the years, but deciding the game from a review booth takes away the emotion of the game. I’ll take the trophy and let’s go again Saturday.
It's also the third competitive game of the season. If we get to January and the defense is still looking pretty suspect, then I'll start to worry about things.
For me, tonight was the end of milner’s career. He looked bad a lot towards the end of last year and was awful today. Time has caught up with him. Needs to be a sub, maybe can start league and FA cups
Guess that’s it for the whole team and should bin the season. Everyone outside of mane were shit last night. Kante ran the match and was the best player on the pitch which we all know is fully capable of doing. Sometimes you have to tip your cap. Midfield shape was wrong and couldn’t adjust, been happening all preseason. Matip gave the ball away 1000x. The whole team didn’t play well. Give some credit to Chelsea. It’s not like we started the year last year on fire either. Unfair to single out milly.
my comment was in regards "maybe he can start league and FA cup games".............which is what this match was
Gomez was dribbled past 3 times last night. None of our other defenders were dribbled past even once.
Preach it. Defense may very well be an issue, but it's just as likely to be a beginning of the season issue.
Last year having no goalie in a game like this would be fine. But we're giving up way too many chances to go with a kid or an old man.
Strong lineup. Was not expecting that. This is a game we should be able to use our “depth”. I honestly don’t know how some of our guys are playing after 120 minutes 3 days ago.
