Windy asking people to overnight him pizzas to China was fn amazing Like I know you’re a fat guy from Ohio but you’re a millionaire now, try some new shit and maybe your face won’t look like you nose dived into a beehive
I know it is way down the list of things the ringer can or does give a shit about, but their soccer podcast is awful. Haven’t listened to it in a while though. Mostly it is just the Arsenal fan that sucks and tries to do hottakes. Thank you for attending my ted talk.
Simmons loves team USA and hates when guys don't play. He talks about the same stuff (who is sitting out, what young players will break out, etc.) every time there's a tournament.
if there weren't Celtics on the team there's 0 doubt in my mind team USA talk is held off on for later and we get some talk about Jeffrey Epstein and/or Antonio Brown etc. He wanted someone that would come on and tell him exactly what he wanted to hear about Jayson Tatum (he grew a beard!) and Kemba
I’m not angry but I would have preferred more drama between Malibu Billy and the displaced middle school English teachers on the ringer staff.
him recognizing the union doesn't mean anything. it just means they don't have to jump through a bunch of hoops to get him to recognize it. have a feeling what ends up happening is they get a 401k with no matching and they get rights to the content they create
They very end when he said he was worried about going to China because he’s a picky eater got an audible chuckle out of me. Brain Windhorst. Picky Eater. Wat
i definitely think that's fair. i don't think they're going to get paid a bunch of overtime for doing a podcast on anime shit that no one pays attention to if they start demanding crazy stuff i wouldn't be shocked if the company just folds.
i wasn't kidding earlier this week when i said i was interested so i did a bunch of reading on it. simmons was going to have to recognize the union either the easy way or the hard way and he chose the easy way. just recognizing the union doesn't mean he is giving in to any of their demands. it just means they have a seat at the table.
To be fair, it happens in business...I can't say how frequently. It would be unusual in media but I know of at least a couple businesses that shutdown and reopened under different names after workers unionized.
a bunch of unprofitable workers unionize. the bosses and people who make money separate and make even more money now that they don't have to support the unprofitable ones.
Oh I agree that owners can be pieces of shit in the face of unionizing, but a media company that relies on public good will and branding it's a suicide mission to try it.
Maybe. I have no clue if he would or not. Just saying I've heard him say all of the same stuff before other world basketball tournaments whether there were Boston players or not, and with a bunch of media at the training camp I don't think the timing was some suspicious thing. He talked about it with Russillo on their last pod and I don't think the Boston players came up in that conversation. He loves these things and has always talked about how he thinks these tournaments are a big deal for young players to take a step forward and play in important games.
team usa talk was good at least it wasn't just a FA rehash (i haven't listened to the whole thing though)
I can’t remember who usually is the main person but it seems every pod he says “i didn’t particularly prepare for this so I’m winging it” or “i was busy and didn’t watch much soccer this weekend”.
i only listened to about 40% of the windhorst pod but i think the team usa stuff and a short history on nba players and the olympics (considering the dropouts this year) is far more interesting than antonio brown takes. up until tonight, there's been a single preseason game and there's not a single qb battle, as far as i know. there's literally nothing interesting about training camp. i'm eager for russilo (or whomever's; obviously not simmons) cfb coverage and sal's nfl stuff but it's just a bit too early for that. i guess there's a fantasy football pod coming friday?
I just can’t get into the first half of the nfl season especially the preseason. I’m glad to get a nfl break.
don't hold your breath on the baseball pods, the Red Sox suck this year. There will definitely be one when the Yankees are eliminated at least.
Catching up on Russillo and Simmons last week. Describing a Patriots tight end blocking well as “murdering” someone was interesting.
i agree i think it's been a good summer. I love Bill interviewing 90s movie stars too. Seriously he gets so much joy doing it and the actors always seem to have a good time. I loved the Costner pod especially. Really looking forward to Ryen's CFB coverage.
Pretty sure it is Donnie Kwak. It wasn't bad when they still had Ryan O'Hanlan because he actually knew what he was talking about. Last few I listened to it was clear that Chris Ryan, who just happened to be around when they were recording, was the only guy who followed outside of their team. Don't understand why they'd give the soccer podcast to guys who would only commit to putting out a pod every two weeks and prepare by reading reddit soccer for a half hour. Especially after seeing the success Men in Blazers has had.
Half way through Gone Girl. Interesting that Jon Hamm was originally attached. I think he would have been great in this. I know the movie made a ton of money but I think Doogie Howser and Tyler Perry could have been played by better actors. Feel like this movie definitely over achieved with a weaker acting cast which is hard to do when it's not a marvel or fast and furious movie.
I thought Tyler Perry was awful in this and the Tanner Bolt in the book was a lot more interesting. Was disappointed nobody brought that up.
Mahershala Ali would have been great at that moment he wasnt a two-time academy award winner so a 3rd-4th supporting role like that could have been doable.
i can't tell if the creators of billions started the show as being in on the joke that the entire show is over the top or if they just leaned into it after people read it that way. not really a fan. succession is great though I don't really read/listen to tv content though
Haven’t watched either. Don’t doubt they’re good just not the second coming as they’re made out to be.
Billions is fun. This generations Entourage. I like Succession but I agree with earlier comment that it’s not as good as the ringer wants you to think it is.
Succession was probably my favorite show this past year. Billions is ridiculous but entertaining, not some masterpiece by a long shot
I don’t think Koppelman leans into it. Judging from his Twitter/podcasts, he thinks he’s making prestige tv on the level of Wire, Mad Men etc.
I love Succesion, Big Little Lies, euphoria etc. If it's HBO I am typically on board. That being said, nothing screams "HBO I still paying us money" like all these forced after shows.
