It's boilerplate stuff after a KO, I just laughed at the phrasing given how many times he went on the canvas.
He's definitely changed tune a bit since the fight. I think some of it is the fighter trying to convince themselves.
One card tonight. Not great, but it’s something. ESPN, 10:00 pm ET, Emanuel Navarrete vs Francisco De Vaca, Jessie Magdaleno vs Rafael Rivera. Being honest, it’s another pretty underwhelming ESPN card in these early stages of Building The Brand. Navarrete is a top guy at 122, the WBO titleholder. De Vaca is the sort of challenger Top Rank has lined up recently against Tyson Fury and Oscar Valdez and others — he’s unbeaten, yes, but ranked No. 144 in the world by BoxRec and has nothing near a meaningful win. Magdaleno is a former titleholder at 122 now fighting at 126, while Rivera is an also-ran who’s lost three of five, dropping fights to Joseph Diaz Jr, Joet Gonzalez, and Leo Santa Cruz. Navarrete is coming in hot with back-to-back wins over Isaac Dogboe in December and May. De Vaca is a bit of an unknown, a 24-year-old fighting out of Phoenix who has never been near the world level. Magdaleno picked up a win over Rico Ramos in March and now looks to make it two straight against Rivera, who was predictably outclassed in a world title fight against Leo Santa Cruz on Feb. 16 before winning a tune-up bout in May.
Had people last night and I had 2 TVs on the patio watching both UFC and Navarrate fight. We were talking about that. When one of your best fighers ever, Cormier, net worth is $5 million and the boss is $500 million. There is a major issue.
Glad they got it figured out. I can never tell when it's posturing for more money or when a fight is actually in danger of not getting made.
SC Do you think if Kovalev wins we get to see Kovalev vs Beterviev/Gvoz winner? So upset Kovalev got robbed in the 1st Ward fight and him and Stevenson never fought
My assumption at this point is that if Kovalev wins tomorrow, we're getting Canelo-Kovalev this winter. With Canelo postponing his next opponent announcement and moving off his September date, I think that writing is on the wall assuming Krusher comes out unscathed. But if the Canelo fight doesn't happen, then yes, I'd expect to see Kovalev vs. the winner of that October fight with Gvozdyk and Beterbiev. Makes too much sense.
ESPN+, 12:30 pm ET, Sergey Kovalev vs Anthony Yarde. Against all, or at least many, odds, this fight appears to actually be happening. The undercard has a notable fight at cruiser featuring Junior Makabu against Aleksei Papin, plus plenty more. Kovalev-Yarde is intriguing if only because it’s impossible to tell what we really have with Yarde — he passes the eye test and Kovalev is 36, but Yarde has never fought a contender.
the more i watch the replay of the "ko" the more im convinced that yarde is gonna get a few points of canelo-kovalev in exchange for it.
So I went to a Russian/Turkish bathhouse yesterday in Miami Beach. What an experience. Luiz Ortiz was in there. My buddy said Kovalev in there all the time. But Luiz Ortiz. Hes a fucking MONSTER. To me it looked like the best shape hes ever been in.
