Wife is making us finish Mrs Maisel (were on episode 3) and for her to finish season 1 of mind hunter (she’s on episode 2) before we start season 2 of mind hunter. Is there any way to erase what you’ve watched on Netflix. I’d blame it on her season but they talk.

I fucked up pretty badly. My plex lists episodes last to first and I wasn’t paying attention and watched the last episode first.

Now through first three and things make a bit more sense.

Watching episode 4 now and I recognize the guy playing Elmer Wayne Henley, Jr. (the dude who helped The Candyman). Couldn't figure it out but knew I recognized him. Had to pause the episode and look it up. It's fucking young Ned Stark from Game of Thrones.

Oh shit, it is 9. I thought they said it was going to be 8. Just finished episode 6 myself. Will definitely be done before tomorrow. I stopped paying attention after episode 3 to who was directing each episode but those first 3 were all Fincher. Episode 6 felt very Fincher-esque as well with one scene especially so I've gotta look into how many of these he did himself.

They tap into true crime without becoming a podcast, with actors that are so damn good. The Manson scene is incredible.

Plus, being from Atlanta, the Atlanta Child Murders storyline is especially fascinating. That all happened before I was born so it was something I wasn’t really familiar with.

The Atlanta Child Murders took place between 1979 and 1981, if that helps your timeframe.

Binged. Very good, as expected. Still prefer the first season, though, as the second takes on more of a standard procedural approach and strays from the deep dive into the sociopath's consciousness and subconsciousness which made the first season so compelling. Lacked the morbid, uneasy tension of simple one-on-one (or two-on-one, really) discussions that we saw so much of before. Could have used more screen time devoted to dialogues with Manson and Berkowitz. Somewhat understandable, though, since no actor portraying a serial killer can be expected to come close to Cameron Britton. Doubt the first season would have focused so much on Kemper if not for Britton.

In 1975 Tor Sørnes invented the VingCard lock, the first known mechanical holecard operated lock. Operated by a plastic key card with a pattern of holes, there were 32 possible hole locations. The 32 holes in the key gave 4.3 billion combinations, the same number as the population of the earth at that time. The key could easily be changed for each new guest by inserting a new key template in the lock that matched the new key.

Export of the original invention was initiated in 1978 when it was installed in the Peachtree Plaza Hotel in Atlanta, Georgia which was the world's tallest hotel at the time. The hotel had been troubled by burglaries and was eager to test the new security innovations

The only thing that I found was BTK’s wife had no idea about his sexual choking stuff. I guess they added that for drama in the show but in real life she had no idea.

Curious to see where they are going with the BTK stuff. Unless there is a massive time jump at some point in the series they'll never catch him on the show. I'm guessing it's to show that their profiles aren't as accurate as they believe. I love when Kemper tells them they are only studying killers that have been caught. Sort of shining a light on the flaw in their research.

There's a weird disconnect being from Wichita & them showing BTK locations I'm familiar with around town and my meeting Rader in the early 2000's before he was finally arrested.

A college friend of mine lived across the street from him and was in his boyscout troop. Learning how to tie knots from that guy must have been a mindfuck in retrospect.

I think you meant better than S1, and I agree. Sucked that I fully spoiled it for myself but I liked the flow of this much better minus the horror movie soundtrack every time Bill went home.

I went and downloaded the documentary that just came out and apparently HBO is coming out with something soon shortly as well. I recall the situation vaguely. Apparently the commercials that used to be on "It's 10PM do you knwo where your children are" was a result of this. Seems like there were a ton of conspiracy theories about the KKK and cover ups that are interesting. They are actually running DNA tests as we speak.

They are doing a documentary on the Atlanta child murders? That will be interesting. HBO always does amazing documentaries.

I wonder if/when they will do Bundy on the show. I know he never technically confessed to anything until basically the last hours of his life to try and get a stay of execution so maybe they won't ever do an interview with him.

As an aside, I’m from Atlanta but was born in the late 80s so I didn’t know anything about this story until legit last year.

There’s a podcast called Atlanta Monster, that’s done by the guy that did Up and Vanished.

Wayne Williams really did call his own press conference and there are lots of people that still think he didn’t do it.

APD really did charge him with the two and basically “lumped in” the rest.

The biggest mark against Williams’ constant denial is that no further bodies were ever found after his arrest.

I was thinking about that. If he was innocent it was definitely convenient that the bodies just stopped once he was apprehended.

The podcast does a really good job of explaining the racial rivalries in Atlanta at the time and how the entire city was pointing the finger at the Klan. Then that bombing/explosion happened and it only caused more chaos.

ETA: It should also be noted that, if you choose to listen to the podcast, the host gets Wayne Williams on the phone from prison.

The cops being involved in some sort of cover-up makes too much sense sadly, that last scene with the ATL FBI agent explaining the 'white-washing' of that pedo-house and the polaroids. Decent chance others were involved and the APD has some knowledge/screwed the pooch, then swept the rest under the rug. White police force in a Black city in the 70s/80s doesn't breed confidence that the ultimate findings were thorough and legitimate

Agreed, most likely explanation is that some people in the police were racist or didnt care enough to investigate black kids getting murdered and it was swept under the rug. Once Williams was in jail and killing stopped eveyone was happy to put it in the rearview mirror.

Its crazy i had never heard of the killings before this show.

Profilers came up with the idea to engage BTK in the media and use his arrogance to pit him against a visible detective "super cop"

Don't remember if that was John Douglas' idea or not but they could do that in the show next season.

You guys should all read Douglas' books
