Level up as often as possible early on. Buy items as needed and later in the game stock up (or do so when the game feels good to you. That will make sense when it happens).

Parry timing takes practice and like most things in souls, when it clicks it becomes a part of you

Honestly, for armor, the set you have as a wanderer will last you through the whole game. For weapons I would figure out what you like best relatively early and stick with it so that it is upgraded as much as possible.

This is good advice. The first play through in souls is about learning and polishing up those things you learn along the way. Subsequent play throughs are about experimenting and learning how other mechanics and weapons work.

Currently making my way through undead burg. I’m level 4 and not having any trouble at all with the enemies I’m finding, except for this one big dude at the bottom of a staircase. I feel like I need to learn the parry mechanic to beat him.

Anyways, I’ve got a bunch of lost souls of undead. Should I use those to level up?

I'm not sure where you are in the game but when you get to a blacksmith npc that is where you will be doing it.

Souls like that are items you can pop to get souls. Use them if you are close to a level. They are a nice item in that when you die they do not go away like the souls that show up on your HUD. As for that tough guy, you are correct in your intuition that parrying is effective against him. However, on a first playthrough many players never get too competent at parrying. I myself did not parry very much my first playthrough. With tough enemies like that it is sometimes a better idea to come back for them when you are higher level and more powerful.

Haven’t really played at all this week. Currently in Undead Burg trying to learn to parry and fight that huge enemy at the bottom of the stairs.

I’m hoping to play all weekend so by Sunday I should still be in Undead Burg trying to learn to parry and fighting that huge enemy at the bottom of the stairs.

Favorite moment in the game so far was making that armored pig look like Austin Powers on a golf cart in a hallway while I sodomized it with my sword.

    Do have a question, though...

What do I do with all the armor and weapons I’m collecting?

You can't do a whole lot at this point in the game. You can buy a bottomless box and move them into there if you want so they are out of your inventory. That's about it.

    Couple questions for you guys...

When I’m leveling up, should I be focusing on certain attributes over others? Faith doesn’t seem like it does anything whereas I can see immediate differences if I increase the other attributes.

I’ve got a +5 longsword right now. Should I use the divine ember to upgrade it further? Or save the ember for a better weapon?

Going to try to beat the Capra Demon tonight. This is the first point in the game that has felt like complete bullshit and is actually pissing me off. I’m dead as soon as I go through the fog.

Like I was sayin earlier itt: wasted stats can kill new players in the souls series. Early on survivability is key.

Increase endurance for equipment load so you can wear better armor and maintain a solid roll speed. (Equipment load is the direct attribute that effects roll speed). Endurance also increases your stamina bar for more rolls

Increase vitality for a larger health bar.

I recommend small changes to attack attributes (strength and dex) until you figure out what weapons your most comfortable with (dex weapons have faster attack speeds but also sometimes have bleed effects that can build up and take chunks of health. Strength weapons attack more slowly but do more damage) and whether or not you might wanna invest in magic attributes (faith and int) and use those.

You can always increase your damage by upgrading weapons. Also pay attention to weapon scaling. Every weapon has an attribute scale (I think it goes: dex-str-faith-int) that you can check by viewing the weapon in your inventory (highest to lowest: s-a-b-c-d). Scaling means that when you put a point into an attribute, the weapons attack power grows a bit larger the better the scaling. Dex weapons scale better with the dex attribute, strength with the strength. Quality weapons (like the long sword and my personal favorite weapon the claymore) scale with both strength and dex. Weapon scaling also grows as you upgrade.

Be careful with your build and try out as many weapons as you can to see if you like the move set. If you find one you really like, set your attack attributes accordingly.

Also, lemme know if you need some advice with the capra demon.

Just want to point out embers allow you to upgrade a weapon with a certain damage type or types permanently. You cannot "save" an ember. Also, the divine ember will allow you to upgrade and change your weapon into a "divine weapon". This will change the scaling of the weapon and allow certain other properties when fighting undead enemies. I would not recommend going down this path right now. But, you can still give the item to the blacksmith as it won't do anything except allow that type of upgrade.

On another note faith and intelligence help with casting spells. Namely faith is tied to weapons that scale with faith and spell type in this game called "miracles". Intelligence is the same but affects spells that are considered "magic" instead of "miracles". On a first playthrough I wouldn't bother using either much unless you want to read up. Better to keep things simple and stick with melee. If you want to stick with the longsword, and as I said before in this game you don't really get better weapons later just different, then you will wanted to put points into strength and dexterity. Either one as it scales the same with both.

Don't bother with attunement either as it has to do with the amount of spell slots you have.

Finally, literally never level resistance, it's not worth it.

Should I use the ember on the longsword? Or would it be better to use it on a more powerful weapon?

Can’t help but feel like I’ll find some other weapon that’s similar to the longsword, but much better.

As I said, you don't USE the ember itself. Think of it like a key that allows you to upgrade your weapon further or into a different damage type. You can do this with as many weapons as you like. The ember is not consumed. That said, I do not recommend upgrading your weapon with any special damage types. So just stick to the regular +# upgrading you've been doing. You can give the ember to the blacksmith and that does nothing to the weapon. So go ahead and do that much.

You can feel that way but you really won't. Only thing that would be "better" is the balder side sword which is a rare drop from the balder knights and scales with dexterity. I keep repeating, this game is not like other rpgs where you can get some awesome late game weapon. The best weapons are actually usually the ones you get at the start of the game.

Actually there’s loads of cool weapons you get later on. The great scythe is amazing, Lucerne can do incredible damage and is the best quality weapon in the game. Quell and fury sword is dope. The butchers knife, Smoughs Hammer and the great club are all ridiculously fun strength weapons. Uchigitana and Iaito are great katanas and dex weapons. Balder Side sword is really fun. VoodooChild5 dont limit yourself with weapons but do be careful on how you set your damage attributes until you find stuff you like. The best thing to do is git gud quick and you can experiment better

The claymore is definitely a great weapon, used it on my first run. It's a larger weapon than the longsword and slower. Some say it's the best weapon in the game. You also probably already have it.

Sure is, that's why I've done so many runs in souls but only 2 in sekiro. He specifically is worried about acquiring a "better" weapon and I wanted to make it clear that the stuff later on isn't really better. I used to overlook the early weapons when I first started playing because I assumed boss weapons or late game stuff had to be the best like it is in other games. That is not how it works in Souls games though.

It's a great weapon but if you like 1h, faster weapons then you don't need to use it. Use whatever is most effective and fun for you. Also, realize that upgrade materials are scarce in this game and using non-upgraded weapons as you get past the very start is always going to be underwhelming.

You can buy titanite shards from the blacksmith. Also, up to you on farming. It can be pretty boring. I'd just keep playing through the game with the longsword and worry about weapon switching on another run.

Level 37, just killed Quelagg and making my way back to the gate that opened after ringing the second bell.

Here are my stats. Am I doing this right?

    13 vitality
    11 attunement
    20 endurance
    20 strength
    21 dexterity
    12 resistance
    13 intelligence
    10 faith

I’ve been focused on endurance since level 29. I realized equip load governs how fast you can move and I find it more enjoyable to be lightly armored but fast. I thought dex would govern movement speed but it’s actually endurance. I’m at 60 max load right now, but I also just got Havel’s ring and am really looking forward to trying it out.

Haven’t really got into magic yet. Might do faith or int for a few levels to give it a try.

Your build is kinda all over the place but it’s still in a solid spot. I’d wait on faith and int until you’re deeper in the game. Seems like you ignored all my previous advice tho and seem to be doing ok lol

You need to start pumping Vitality right now. Also do not bother with int or faith. It's going to be a waste. Do a dedicated magic run later.

Also, movement speed is really based on equip load which is partially determined by endurance. Just wear light armor.
