Yeah man stick with the vitality/endurance grind for a bit because your damage stats are in a real good spot. Orn and Smough is the reason I wanted you to focus on survivability because this fight can end you. It is the fight that separates the real from the fake. You can summon solaire to help you fight them if you want. I recommend the old fashion way for maximum hype afterwards
After I clear a boss/area I go check a walkthrough to see everything I missed in that area. I had no idea there was a bonfire on top of Sen’s fortress or that you could use the cages as an elevator. I was respawning in undead parish and fighting my way back to the top each time I died. Probably went through 300 arrows killing the lizard man wizards over and over.
A good way to gain experience is to go back to a boss area and lay down your soapstone so you can help others defeat the boss. Good way to level
I’ve been trying to do that, and have helped a couple people (one was bell gargoyles and one was quelagg), but I don’t really stay in one area long enough. My signs usually disappear before I get summoned.
On a semi-related note, I’m basically going through the whole game as a hollow. I only use humanity to kindle new bonfires. Am I missing out on anything?
Just invasions and the chance to summon help. I can’t stress enough tho that the PVP in the original Dark Souls is an absolute blast. Every time I create a new character it’s with the idea to min/max for PvP. It may not be something you wanna get into now but I highly recommend giving it a go at some point. May need to make a new character and better optimize your build but it’s a load of fun
Yes but please never another point into int or faith ever again. Just focus on vitality and endurance as well as whatever damage stat you need.
Feel like I need to be really patient against O&S. Just did a few runs to see how long I could survive without dying. Not super hard to avoid attacks and stay alive, but there aren’t a lot of openings for attacks.
Killed Ornstein a few times and got Smough down to about 33% once, but then he charged me and glitched through one of those pillars to kill me. Collision detection has to be the most frustrating thing in this game after the camera.
Over the past couple days I’ve beat O&S, Sif, and the Hydra. Kind of stumped on what I’m supposed to do next. I went into New Londo, but I’ve used all my curses. Kept dying because of terrible hit detection. Sometimes my sword would go right through the ghosts without doing any damage. Next I tried the catacombs. Can’t make it very far without the enemies I’ve killed respawning and attacking me from behind. This morning I tried the area on the hill above Anor Londo, but I was getting smoked by the mineral dudes in there so I’m pretty sure I need to come back later at a higher level. Am I missing something?
Nope those are all areas you are supposed to be in. Just need to figure out how to get through them. Edit: I will say the catacombs may have a way to stop that spawning. See if you can figure that out.
Killed the four kings, but haven't really played in a week or so. I'm in the middle of the duke's archives.
Played a few hours this morning. Killed Seath, Discharge, and the lava centipede only dying once between all of them. Exploring Lost Izalith at this point. Favorite part of the game is killing all those capra demons in the ruins. Feels so good.
I prefer it for smaller enemies, but the claymore is a lot better against large enemies and bosses and at this point in the game that’s all I’m fighting.
Just killed Gwyn. My early game parrying practice made the fight super easy. I lit the bonfire and then the cinematic played of my character catching on fire and now I’m back in the cell where I started the game. Nothing in the game really made sense. I was hoping for some kind of explanation at the end. I have no clue what was going on in the game. I audibly said “That’s it?” when the credits started. Really anticlimactic. Whatever. The combat is really satisfying once you get it down and the interconnectedness of the different areas was cool.
Also, watch vaatividya for explanations of the story of dark souls games. You really have to read all items and talk to all npcs plus do a lot of reading to get the plot. The developer does not believe in spoon feeding story.
Apparently there’s DLC, but there’s nothing telling you how to access it. My experience with the game was basically exploring in random directions and killing random enemies until I either hit a dead end or gained access to some other area to explore. I must not have stumbled upon the DLC.
Just watched a video on how to access the DLC... you’re supposed to kill some hidden golem in a hidden cove that you reach on a hidden path after you kill the hydra. I was never going to find that.
Yeah, you pretty much have to read how to do it unless like I said you read and analyze everything. Probably should have told you. But hey, this is an excuse for a new run!
Installed the Daughters of Ash mod on pc a couple days ago. Really fun. Makes you go different routes through the game, adds lots of new items, changes up boss fights. Last night I went down to Ash Lake exploring, got cursed, lost 50k souls, and I have no remedy for the curse and I can’t warp out. May be looking at a reset.
